Dresden Codak Storytime

And now, against popular demand here is yet another horrible webcomic storytime. This is going to be a short one. :^)

Without further ado, here is Aaron Diaz's magnum opus: DRESDEN MOTHERFUCKING CODAK, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

Introducing our Mary Sue author's waifu protagonist, Motoko Kimiko Kusanagi Ross. And also introducing the Wonder Tokamak Twins.

Introducing… ah, who gives a fuck.

In case you're expecting me to explain any of this, tough luck. Diaz didn't either. Maybe you're not smart enough to get it :^)

Oh yeah, Dungeons & Discourse. Did you know he pitched it as a game, without actually knowing or having experience with tabletop RPGs?

THERE IS A LIMIT TO THE FILTH PEOPLE CAN POST ON THIS BOARD AND YOU'VE CLEARLY PASSED IT

NOW WAIT JUST A FUCKING MINUTE HERE

...

The only way diaz can bag a woman is if she has no legs, one arm, and exists entirely within his head

Those are all requirements, though.
If she had at least one leg, she would run from him even is she's imaginary

Makes a lot of sense actually. I remember thinking Redd would be really easy to bag if you just shut off her neck control.

Man Jack Cayless really never did improve his art, did he?
I genuinely enjoyed some parts of Chimneyspeak.

He got worse if anything. If you look at his tumblr its all tiny noses and some kind of weird coffee spill filter over everything. I thought The Knuckle Duster was cute along with Bath Time although that was drawn by Leslie Brown

Lol, and everyone bags Krazy Krow for liking girls with extra arms or heads.

…Actually Robert Crumb is the only cartoonist with a fetish for -1 head.

Wait hold, up, I think my brain is full of fuck right now.

Some of the first few pages seem to be relatively fun surrealist humour with an occasional nonsensical bent on scientific and philosophical concepts.

Then others seem to be part of a greater ongoing story? Is this the actual order of pages? Are all of these pages part of the story? (Like the two guys moving to the moon and having a grand old time? Is that in the same universe as the cyborg girl?) What is with the layout of these pages? It's all seems so crowded, somehow even on the ones that just have square panels. Then there are just WORDS WORDS WORDS everywhere. Is this even all the same artist? I know that the Cayless pages don't belong to this, you don't need to tell me that.

OP, you better explain this shit or I will have to google it myself and find out what's going on here.

I tried reading Dresden Codak a couple of times already and gave up every single time because I couldn't make out what the fuck was going on and didn't care enough to waste my time trying to figure it out. Diaz just has no fucking idea how panelling works and somehow managed to get worse and worse at it as the time progressed. If you look at the first couple of pages, they're still readable but after a while, everything just turns into an incomprehensible mess because he tries to shove more and more shit into a single page with no structure whatsoever. I'm actually impressed by anyone who manages to read through this whole thing without getting a headache.

The sad thing is that as an artist, Diaz really isn't bad at all, he just has no idea how comics work. I think he even said at some point that he never reads other comics because he's so "busy" working on his own.

Fucks sake Diaz, is it really necessary to have nude there?

Is that Muhammad in the last panel?

I think a one leg woman would be capable kicking Diaz's ass instead of running.

DC started out with single page standalone comics that dealt with science/philosophy/surreal /etc stuff.
Then he went on to making story arcs (much to the fanbase dismay) first with Hob and continuing with Dark Science (pictured), which after many years HAS STILL NOT FINISHED.

His panel layout in his early comics zigzag back and forth (left to right to left without resetting on a new panel line). With the 3rd comic in you follow the path of the overlapping rectangles. Though it a style that makes his pages look messy. What even more fucked up is that he has taught comic layouts and yet doesn't seem to follow his own advice.

Einstein in secular heaven. Lol retards.

I read Chimneyspeak up to around the point where the scarred chicky and the midget are planning to pull some major shit. Is it worth picking back up? I could feel the quality lowering in everything but the main protagonist and his affairs.

Isn't that the point of the radio broadcasts?
Isn't a reverse telescope basically a projector or a "teleprojector"?

It's lolsorandum mixed with 2deep4me
And the completely incomprehensible paneling makes this shit impossible to read

It's amputee porn and desperate virtue signalling.

Dat back pussy tho.

This is almost definitely correct, but I think it's worth pointing out that there's some gray area where cyborgs are involved. You can usually pick out who's an amputee fetishist versus who's just interested in cyborgs based on how frequently the character's cybernetic limbs are removed/destroyed (if memory serves, the answer in Dresden Codak's case is "constantly").

Not really since he simply ended up dropping it for his VNs. If you want to scratch a Chimneyspeak itch I'd recommend New Kowloon if you want a Redd look-a-like with arms, drugs and ghost blowjobs

miskatonic fucking when?

...

I would say by the detail and extent of cyborgization, but some people just… isnt skilled enough to do a cybot that doesnt look like just a person with prosthetics.

I mean, I cant exactly point Diaz' faults _Kimiko looks like a regular amputee without cyberlimbs, but her skin is clearly synth so who knows whats under the hood?) but when I think of a proper mostly-human cyborg, I think of Mystral.

Where did you go, OP? Did reading this comic cause you to have a stroke?

This is also well worth considering. I might get even more specific and say that looking at how the cybernetics are connected/integrated with the body is significant. Like you said, without the cybernetic limbs, Kimiko looks like a regular amputee. The limbs are connected along barely-defined flat planes.

This always confused me. I was under the impression that, before she went full GitS, her torso was still mostly organic. The inclusion of panel seams on organic skin always irritated me as it doesn't make sense medically or mechanically. It's entirely possible that I'm overthinking this. I've spent so much time developing my own cyborg designs that I can't help but nitpick. pic related. I didn't bother to render the naughty bits as this was originally intended as a SFW posting.

It was shortly after this that I gave up on even spite-reading Dresden Codak. I cannot stand how casually that whole sequence was handled, and I'm going to go out on a limb CARLOS and guess that the psychological ramifications of this have never been seriously addressed in the comic. I don't care how okay you are with the concept of putting your brain in a synthetic body- that has to fuck you up at least a little bit, psychologically speaking.

There's nothing wrong with throwing in the odd pretty lady now and then.
BUT there's plenty wrong with doing it, and then turning around and spitting shit at anybody who does the same thing.

Read a bit of it, lacks the same appeal to be honest. The art is somehow worse and a big part of why I liked Chimneyspeak for all of its flaws was how, for lack of a better word, dirty it was. Also it calling itself "new Kowloon" kind of pisses me off because I am actually incredibly autistic about the Kowloon walled city and this does not seem to have anything to do with it. If you browse the AGDG you know who I am.
The main character and all of his colleagues were massive pieces of shit but it wasn't done in an edgy way. Life was just shit and his answer was being a bit shit too. Hell, his life improves after he joins up with that scarred chicky. Shame that it's cancelled to be honest, I was somewhat curious about picking it back up,

The difference between a fetish and an incidental detail can be determined by the specificity and level of focus give to said detail. For instance:

Yukito Kushiro does it better.

Good taste.

Come on now, user. Just posting a good manga isn't going to turn this place into that one imageboard where all cartoon boards were Holla Forums.

Go unbirth yourself.

Hey, is this the "my anger is beyond super sonic!" guy?

OH YES. Beware the cute ones. Especially the cute one whose arms drop off.
