Please excuse the rambling, stream-of-consciousness nature of this post. This is one of those subjects that I find difficult to get my thoughts together around. I guess you could say I'm in the middle of an ideological upheaval and my new beliefs aren't solidified. Anyway.

I'm a "member" of the LG[B?][T?]QI[A?]+ community. I appreciate the LGBP part of the community trying to erase the stigma against same-gender-attracted people, which has lead to far too much suicide, substance abuse, bullying, homelessness (wouldn't exist in communism, though), etc., however too much of it is focused on working within the current capitalist paradigm, rather than working beyond it.

As for myself, my sex drive is too low for me to be able to tell what my orientation is (which might make me asexual, I suppose), but I think I'm attracted to both men and women, with a strong emphasis on women. I myself am female-bodied, but don't really "identify" as a woman and don't comfortably fit the female gender role. This would qualify me as transgender, but I feel perhaps to cis vs trans binary is short-sighted and insufficient for categorizing people. The focus, therefore, should be in abolishing gender roles and gendered socialization.

This is radfem-ish/TERF-y, I guess, but I think that's all gender really is. It is a not a feeling, or clothing, or a haircut. It's a way of very broadly categorizing people and dividing labor, and because of this division– master-slave-dialectic, you know the drill–one gender is placed above another. Women suffer more than men in this hierarchy, but men suffer as well. These roles are suffocating and hold as back from achieving our full potential as people. This is especially true in how boys and girls are raised differently, to excel in different fields. This is a hindrance to us, as individuals, and as a species. Why not teach all children to be physically fit, to study math and science, to take leadership roles if they're qualified, to be good communicators, to be artistic, to express their emotions freely, and not be afraid to ask for help. I could go on and on. Gender roles cause both sexes harm on an unthinkably vast scale.

But I understand hormones are also important, and you have people like David Reimer. In Reimer's case, he may have known he's supposed to be male, not female, and because we assign different roles according to sex, he saw that males behave in this way, so he should too. But I don't know. I'm not a scientist and I have a lot of research left to do.

TL;DR: It's fine to want to have sex with the same sex/gender and we need to work on making this acceptable. However, this needs to also be paired with the destruction of capitalism and the State, but most LGBT+ activism focuses on making the neoliberal status quo more comfy instead of tearing it down. Gender is no more than gender roles/gendered socialization, and is harmful to individuals, both gender classes, and the species. As such, it should be abolished. But there are holes in this line of thinking. I need to iron my "theories" out more, but it's a difficult process and I don't foresee a resolution for several months at least. t. asexual (?) bisexual (?) female-bodied person who doesn't identify as a woman but might as well anyway given my experiences are no different than cis women. Gender is a prison.

I don't see how the forcible abolition of gender would bring anything other than resentment and resistance. Negate current social relations through a revolution, encourage all to engage in the labor they wish to engage in, and we'll see if that erodes gendered relations and leads to its abolition, or not. Unless there is something concrete to replace the current gendered order, much as it is with the capitalist order, it will be produced and reproduced regardless. Under socialism, even if gendered relations remain in some form they will reflect more of the will of those participating in those relations than the relations produced and reproduced to serve the needs of capitalism. Such a development leaves open the real possibility of gender abolition. IMO, the abolition of gender and the achievement of communism are much the same utopia; production is a fully creative, gratifying activity; relations between people are truly individualistic, rather than conforming to gendered norms.
