Why is trotskyism so popular in the west?

Why is trotskyism so popular in the west?

Because it was anti-Soviet.

If Socialist movements could not be avoided, at least those directly tied to the Moscow have to be suppressed, so as to reduce influence of Comintern and Soviets.

Which is why Maoism was another strain that got through after Sino-Soviet split.

Not really popular since many of trots followers were killed off or kicked out of major socialist parties throughout the 30s and 40s.

Recent use of the term 'Trotskyist' has been used to blemish the efforts within the labour party (uk) thats trying to bring labour back to labours old roots of fighting for working class people, imo of course.

In fact i hope people are exposed more to Trotskys ideas.

it's not really. 2K members of the SWP, barely 1K of the SP (former Trot Militant). Numbers are seriously flagging. Only reason discussion is around Trots atm here in the UK is because it's a name for the Labour right to throw at anyone who opposes their bullshit

Owen Smith on suicide watch.

lol why are the blairites even trying at this point?

In the Cold War it was the best way to be a commie without being accused of treason

Many young people today become Trots because their aversion to the USSR

because le slick entryism :^)

It isn't

Because Trotsky never got into power and was unable to kill 80 gobrillion people (conservative estimate).

I promise you that if Stalin had been the one in Mexico, he'd be praised in the same fashion Trotsky is.

no he wouldn't, just compare troskys writings to stalins, there is no comparison

People who know nothing about communism make a trotsky/stalin dichotomy. They think the only way to be communist without being stalinist is to be a trot.

Because Trotskyism is a jewish intellectual movement and most top Trotskyites (ie Jews) fled to the West (many becoming "neoconservatives" in the process) after daddy Stalin secured his power.

Muh jews muhfugga muh jews bix nood

Because it is correct

Because he was a white supremacist and his romantic notions of revolution ensure that socialism would never be achieved - perfect for the virtue-signaling comfortable middle class "left"

Basically Trotsky offers a base to point where the USSR went right and went wrong. Sure you can say Trotsky's priority of expanding the revolution was a tall order but so was building a island of socialism in a sea of capitalism.

What the fuck are you smoking nigga

Daily reminder that Trotsky did nothing wrong.

Its a meme. Old marxist leninist want to purge non believer troskyist revisionist.

Because the left loves the fantasy of a USSR without the "baggage" and the idea of Trotsky taking power allows people to divert criticism towards Stalin instead of the inherent problems within the Russian soviet system itself.

It allows edgy liberals to play revolutionary while distancing themselves from Stalin. That's part of why almost all "Trotskyist" groups are shitty pseudo-leftists. This isn't to deride actual Trotskyism though. The couple legitimately Trotskyist parties out there aren't that bad. I mean, they're better than most of the ML and Maotist parties, not that that says much.

Because they're basically a cult that targets lost, lonely college-age kids to "convert" into their cause, often by "horizontal recruitment" if you know what I mean.

Christopher Hitchens called himself a supporter of Trotsky.

topkek Stalin was a theoretical infant

Most people here don't even know who Trotsky is.

[CITATION NEEDED]

You realize this can be said about the majority of growing socialist parties in the western world, right?

so they can pretend that they dindu nuffin more conveniently as nobody really gives a shit enough about trotsky to point out that he was "worse" than stalin, instead of arguing for violence
it also goes better with his anti buerocratic rhetoric while he was the most administrative acting faggot in the whole soviet unions history

in short: petty bourgeoise populism

…Because it allows people to be anti-capitalist and never challenge anything they've heard about 'actually existing socialism' - it's just ideological convenience tbh.
