About 10-15 years ago everyone I knew was waiting for the next great MMO. Rift, Warhammer, etc. I'd go on the forums sometimes and see these guilds that were recruiting like mad for games that weren't even out yet. They had all kinds of rules and complicated leadership structures. Claiming 100s of members they required extensive applications to make sure you were made of the right stuff to be in their guild. They had all sorts of plans on how they were going to totally kill all the bosses first while kicking ass in PVP (pve severs are for pussies you know).

Invariably 100% of these guilds amounted to absolutely nothing. You might see one actually form up in game after launch, but they'd usually disband after a week or two. If they survived they were a laughing stock on the server because none of the players were worth a shit.

In the end the leaders would often admit that it was more fun to larp on the forums than actually accomplish something.

TRS always reminded of one of these forum warrior guilds.
