This. The culture of pointless, endless workaholism that has developed in Japan and South Korea is destroying both of those countries from the inside out. They're both in the top 5 for suicide rates. If all you have to look forward to is working 14-hour days/100 hour weeks, week after month after year for your entire life, and whatever girl you end up marrying takes your whole paycheck and then won't even fuck you… I can easily see why so many people in those countries just check out early by jumping in front of trains. The current generation of young people in Japan are choosing to forego marriage and careers entirely in many cases to get away from this kind of life. That Koreans are willing to pay five figures to do manual labor and not have to live in Korean society is very telling.

Ya know, if our schools werent so pozzed, I'd actually favor their school system style. 6 day week, summer "vacation" is only like 2-3 weeks, maybe give it a month here but not the 3 month "do nothing" fest most kids make of it now, with shit loads of school clubs and students "encouraged" (social pressure) to join one of them for after school activities that are supervised. But I'd also like to see our high schools adopt more practical classes for those completely disinterested in the regular classes (ie: math after geometry, science after chemistry, etc), accounting, psych, comp sci/programing, business, automotive, culinary (and on the last two, not the shitshow that is current "auto shop' and "home ec" classes where guys go to jerk off and girls go to gossip), metal works, and so on. Something other than four your of english for kids who obviously arent going to be writers, or four years of math for kids who obviously arent going to go into engineering

THAT should be what a kid is doing growing up, learning, and learning practical things, but also spending their free time in a useful way rather than playing xbawkz and writing/reading trashy fanfics on tumblr.

But when it comes to the actual post-education work model? Yeah fuck that shit. The "work till you die, then get back up and work some more" mentality is crap. Granted, most of their "business" positions are total crap mindless work jobs anyway, its really not like phasing them out would even be harmful to companies.
