It's a tough balancing act, but the strips I make are generally all intended to be taken tongue-in-cheek. When you have Holla Forumsnrad acting all grandiose about fighting the great evil and rewriting history, in a dramatic showdown with lightning and stark illumination, and then the one he's facing is effectively a Hello Kitty, it's meant to be silly. When Holla Forums's backstory involves some implied great battle and biblical exodus from one city to another and you know in reality what that's representing is just "anons left one site for another", it's meant to be silly. I'm not sure I'm conveying this accurately, though.

I appreciate the response, we had one where we were discussing matters but it's got quite the number of missing pictures so it's kind of worthless now.

I'll try to keep this brief: the board I'm referring to is >>>/ita/ a place for Italians (or the occasional Dutchfag who comes and mamamiaposts) to shitpost and talk politics (we had a bunch more, but the biggest one had a commie owner who sent us all to the gulags before we got to make our own one and all the other ones faded into obscurity). We've meant to get more people on it but between April's Fools' downtime and a lack of major political events to link the board to, we never got a chance to really shine. Currently, it's just the twenty-ish of us and we occasionally get some extra guys in thanks to someone streaming taiwanese flipbook animations.

We convened to decide on a board-tan after noticing just how much art of them is made and crossposted on the more popular boards and how it brings users in as well as how it becomes kind of a symbol of the board itself (I had no idea we had /monster/ until I saw that many Ammit-chan pictures being posted on Holla Forums).
Originally, we considered just using Christ-chan/Christina due to how many aspects she hits on the "small town girl from inner Italy" checklist (of christian background, pious, plain, disdain for those outside her community, neutral hair/eye color etc.) but we abandoned that plan because people would just assume we were just /christian/ users (which is not that far from the reality of it but whatever). We then discussed about having three different ones that would embody the stereotypical North/Centre-SPQR/South Italy divide (for you see, we never stopped caring about that whole city-state thing and still openly hate each other over that), but that idea was also scrapped because everyone had a different idea on what constitutes the right stereotype.

So finally we agreed on a look that is more reminiscent of the National Personification of Italy which was used between the unification of the peninsula up to and during WWII, one that would retain the rural, easy-going and simplistic look of Christ-chan and yet also embody the Italian spirit of neutral faggots a friendly yet xenophobic people. It would have a look that could be found regardless of which region you went (we thought of green eyes and light or dark brown hair) and would be dressed somewhat similarly to 1800's and early 1900's townsfolk. If you still plan on doing this, have some references scraped from the thread itself, go wild with them and do your own thing if you want to, we aren't a tough crowd. We tentatively dubbed her "Rita-chan" as a pet name for Margherita and because it had the name of the board in it and we're uninspired faggots.

I have recently downloaded some weird collection thereof, it's got most of the classic sets covered but they're in this very odd arrangement and play like an antiquated flash file. Leave it to Italians to be backwards on technology by a 10 years margin.
I also do have more of them in some anthologies and I was going to scan them one of these days. I had some other Italian Fumetti that I could scan, but the quality of most of them is dubious due to years of rotting away.

Most of the phonetic accents play on our stereotype of German speaking people:
- Each number is always in German;
- A lot of words ending with "-en", they're actually vowels;
-F's substitute V's;
-K's substitue Q's, C's and Chi/Chie sounds (don't worry, context makes it super easy to understand which words they're uttering);
- "Ach!" is just a meaningless gasp-like sound to make you further understand they're Germans.
What kind of school teaches their pupils about old leftist Italian comic book characters??? It's not even the most popular, there's a lot of 60's comic books that are quite frankly more renown.
Also, if you must, try to get your hands on the original ones, scanlated or not. I do not know if that was indicative of the quality of the whole translating production, but for some bizarre reason, Silver let his characters be translated with a weird mix of Dixie-Scottish kind of dialect (which hilariously makes sense since a lot of Scots emigrated there in the early days of the Frontier) that looks more out of a 20's American cartoon than a more modern production.
Also be advised that the kind of content from the Lupo Alberto series is a bit all over the place. It started off as a rather cartoonish, Wile E. Coyote tier slapstick about the titular Wolf trying to get past a bear-dog creature and get to a pack of hens (supposedly to capture and eat them but there was a not so subtle sexual innuendo in the way he looked at them), it gradually evolved into more complex stories with him getting entangled in a relationship with one of the hens, then it became a very bizarre kind of slice-of-life series, then again it started ripping off popular movies and shows with a breakout character, until it split into said breakout character having Sunday Funnies related to Italian tv gossip and the titular character being relegated to Garfield-tier merchandising. I don't really know if it ever evolved from that point onward because I stopped reading it like a decade ago.

It's just a proposal though, if you want to change anything, colors, design, style, face, hair, etc. just tell me or maybe another user will do it better later.

All in all for a first version it's pretty good, what instead I would want to see is different sketches of different versions in different poses instead, even if they're quick and rough without many details, just to use them as bases and decide which to finalise into a coloured one like that. But yeah, it's still pretty good.

Not that guy, but if they're willing to speak in English for your sake, I think you should head over to /ita/ to discuss any further design with them. If it's going to be their board-tan, the userbase should probably have a say in it.

As for my two cents, I'd recommend that you simplify the design a bit. The flower motifs on her headband, the dotted stripes on her apron, and those colourful little flowers on her shoes all look very nice, but they make drawing her take a lot longer, and less experienced artists would have a hard time with it. Board-tans are better easily reproducible, as to encourage more OC, so you shouldn't go overboard with details.

I hand drew these, sorry about the quality but they are just sketches and didn't feel like digitalizing them. I'm kind of a bad, involuntary copy-cat, so if I see a certain style long enough, I end up copying some elements from it and since a friend of mine recommended me that gay-ass Yuri on Ice anime and watched it all, I ended up copying the anime's heart-shaped 'cute' smiling mouths. I also tried to implement the dresses' design from your request post and regarding the curly hair, I thought the girls in the traditional garb had curly hair.

I haven't drawn in almost a year, lots of stuff going on in my life but now that I have a respite and am able to draw again, I wanted to practice by helping you with you board tan, if you'll have me.

The balkans are clearly defined in physical features whereas Italians are mostly indistinguishable from each other. Then again, try and mix for just a century a bunch of countries that have had different conquerors and racial influences for the past millennia and see how it goes.

Some people got triggered really hard by the earrings-headscarf combo because it reminds them of gypsies, which are a curse on our lands worse than organized crime. I personally don't mind them but probably one could do away with the earrings and keep the same effect.
Everything else looks pretty cool though. I especially like the hair.
