That picture is going to look nostalgic as fuck in 20 years.

I laughed for the first time this season with this episode and I thoroughly enjoyed most of it. I felt it was too slow at times, but then again, I was tired when I was watching it. There is a big fucking difference to episodes 2 - 4 and 5 - 6. There's a fucking theme established, fucking flow constant, fucking good plot, unique. I feel this belongs in season 2 or late season 1. Good shit.

Imho the show has lost comfyness. It's either hyperaction like the fights in pickle rick or in this episode or boring dialogues. I miss the comfy segments like when they watch the alien TV, the party, et. al.

Even though it was a true Rick and Morty episode I still feel like it was slightly lackluster when compared to the first two seasons. Mainly because this episode just feels like more emotional character-building filler than an actual plot that was filled with fun jokes. In the first two seasons you didn't need that shit. Rick was a nihilistic asshole and Morty was the fish out of water character that added a human reaction to everything that was going on. Literally all this season has been is hammering down that look, rick has a heart! he cares for morty! and morty is starting to break under all the stress that rick puts him through!. Rick was so fucking out of character in the beginning of this episode. Season 1 and 2 Rick didn't have his hands fucking shaking because he had a near-death experience. What happened to his deadpan delivery?

I just think it's drama that's so out of place because it's so out of character.

I liked his ruthless mentality of Rick>Everyone fucking else because they're replaceable.

I really did not understand this episode at all.

What does it mean to rid oneself of all toxins? Why are the toxins human-sized if they're in a tank? Why did Rick want to merge with his toxins? Why isn't any of this funny?

I don't understand their motivations and for something as meta as splitting the characters apart I need some pretty strong logic as to why they should undo that progress aside from the fact that the status quo must be maintained.

Look at this episode. Same concept, wildly different execution. It's simple, makes sense and is funny.

Imagine if the detoxifier turned our heroes into insufferable ultra-clean vegans. They wouldn't have any edge to them and just be so boring and clean that nobody else on Earth could stand them. The last straw would be when they keep badgering Beth for drinking her inorganic brand of wine. Eventually an old rival of rick comes to town and completely takes him by surprise. Rick and Morty learn that emotional baggage and bad habits don't form in a vacuum, they're created as a response to stressful situations. In a moment of opportunity while the rival is preparing to execute them, Rick manages to remember what he would do if he was his former borderline-suicidal self and starts arguing with Morty, creating a distraction that leads to the rival not noticing the gun Rick grabbed. The rival's brains are splattered all over the floor. Morty freaks out and stutters like his old self because his mind is now unaccustomed to this violence, and Rick calmly assures him that it's all okay, they can handle it.

I'm obviously not a writer but at least in this version I understood the logic and the motivations of the characters. And it has a relatable joke, all those people (especially in Hollywood) who go on and on about how important clean living and detoxing is.

I don't see how that's hedonistic. Life is the thing which allows the universe to know itself. Without life, we would just be atoms and molecules floating around, with an inevitable future of being spread too far to interact. As far as I can tell, the preservation of life and knowledge is necessary for the progression of the universe, and to potentially stop the heat death.

Ok. I finished all the seasons. Compared to the old stuff, the new episodes are obviously shittier. For example: in the post-credits scene of the newest episode the girl who gets released from the toxic world reacts like she were in Bojack Horseman (SEACUCUMBER! with a whole bunch of flailing). I can guarantee that a woman wrote that part.
The new episodes aren't giving you that "punch" that the old ones did. There's no burying of bodies or realizing new stuff about the characters, and the zaniness is watered-down and tame compared to Scary Terry even. Exploring the secondary characters was a mistake (Jerry could have gotten a better episode at least.).

How come Rick hates his own scientific drive?

The basic idea was kinda fun, but it was executed so poorly, but that's becoming norm for the show. It's more the weird improvisation that works, not the long term planning.
