SEALDs, a Japan's liberal youth protest organization disbanded yesterday after admitting defeat over constantly failing to make changes against the militarist policies of Shinzo Abe and his government.
While they were a socdem/liberal "fashionable protest" organization, they were probably the only massive and well-known group that represented left-of-center activism in Japan. Needless to say they were hated by right-wingers and often associated with the Japan Communist Party (spooky scary leftists) and thus had constantly lowering approbation from the Japanese public. The youth is swinging more to the right and the left-wing is associated with old people.
Are we really watching the death of the left worldwide?
He even gets a female militarist war crime apologist in the cabinet, what a mad jap.
Brayden Cooper
Japan is the hotbed of fascism in the first place, with its ring wing media that promotes sexy anime girls and traditionalism/shintoism, and giving birth to imageboards, giving the neo-nazis a voice.
If anything can be blamed for the spreading right wing views, it's Japan as a country.
William Ross
Yes, Japan's going full fascist now, which makes total sense considering the JCP is growing in numbers. And it's those damn young people! They did this!
Sebastian Martin
Nigg don't talk shit about much animay.
William Brown
JCP is controlled-op.
Carson Scott
Animay turns the whole world right-wing.
Anthony Cruz
How much is it growing though? They still have no power.
Easton Campbell
kek.
wait wait. So Japanese liberals ARE leftist, western liberals aren't? How do you keep up with this stuff? Or is it really that any oppressed group is leftist?
Nathaniel Powell
It also turns people gay.
Nathan Cruz
Gay right wingers.
Luis Sullivan
It's no wonder the originators of anime (who were left-leaning) hate anime now.
Noah Jenkins
source?
Jace Barnes
The anime asthetics was a combination between 50s Disney art and traditional jap art and capitalist pop culture, so you get explicit cultural right wing consumer products made in boatloads.
Zachary Cox
Japanese liberals are just as shit as American liberals, it's just that there's not much opposition to the right-wing in Japan by now. The only hope are those liberals becoming radical and reviving actual leftist groups. Some even advocate violent revolution but japs definitely can't handle that.
Alexander Russell
japanese liberals are leftists according to japanese, and most of asia's standard, considering how conservative asians tend to be. if we just outright neglect them instead of trying to reach out for them, they'd only be furthermore alienated and turn further right.
Anthony Cox
The japs arrange assassins for any leftist leader.
Any nails that sticks out will get hammered down.
Wyatt Reed
So we apply relativism to leftism now? The madness never ends.
not saying we should support them but we should reach out for them, just like we should with any liberals, radicalize them and show them how their soft centre-left shit isnt going to solve anything.
Ryder Gonzalez
How do you suppose to do that?
inb4 B████ Sandman
He turns into a fucking liberal.
Thomas Allen
The anime industry has always been capitalist just like the western cartoon industry because there's no other way when making art, you can't easily escape capitalism, but most well known writers and directors from the 70s were at least liberal-leaning and sympathized with the radical left movements at the time and were of the first in the artistic industry to unionize, so to call them right-wing is a bit of a stretch I'd say.
Asher Edwards
It doesn't matter because the aesthetics and moral they taught were right wing.
Be loyal, be honest, fight for your family, friends, society. Destroy the foreign alien/enemies/invaders. Do good stuff, get sexy girls. Respect your tradition and culture, shun the foreign culture.
All of these boil down to right wing/reactionary thinking.
Jordan Stewart
That's the writers fault, not the girls medium.
Juan Powell
hes a fucking liberal from the start. berry sunny was an incredibly good opportunity to show left-leaning liberals how reformists and socdems will always sell out and not accomplish anything, and radicalize them.
Matthew Nguyen
No. You are seeing the death of capitalist funded destabilization. Why must a local movement within a country not asking for outside help make letters in foreign languages? Ask yourself and be honest. A people must first free themselves before they can free others. Look at armed forces that fought for allies in foreign wars. They fight for the right to self ownership. Without this right there can be no freedom from the banks. Yet, if you never submit you can never be taken.
Brody Powell
Radicalize them in what way?
Not voting or following Sandman's advice into voting for Clinton?
Luis Hill
The writers and the artists/animators are the entire medium.
Josiah Williams
make them see that reformists have no actual potential for changes, and thus more sympathetic towards a revolution
Alexander Wilson
Over half of that is OK in national liberation movements.
Adrian Barnes
National liberation leads to either nationalism or Marxist-leninism which reforms into liberal democracy capitalist.
Christopher Bell
The thousands of them?
The sandman voters were low, the ones who choose to not vote is lower, the ones who think they will make revolution is the lowest.
Robert Miller
How is this inherently right-wing?
Why do you talk like all anime is like this? That's a huge generalization.
Josiah Green
yes. would you rather have a social democracy or a fascist state
Daniel Turner
Because the Marxism is anti-tradition, anti-moral, no such thing as family, only class warfare matters. Because a lot of anime are like that, half of the mecha genre is about fighting against aliens.
Bentley Walker
Japs are scared of radicalism after what happened in the 70s.
Jonathan Russell
More like they are scared of being stabbed in the guts in an open convention.
Matthew Thomas
Lol, I see you've read Engels
Half the mecha genre is inspired by Gundam, no suprises here.
Aaron Wright
I'm talking about the other half, inspired by Mazinger Z and Getter Robo, which are explicitly about destroying evil aliens/ancient empires.
Anthony Martin
false
Isaac Hill
Read the Manifesto.
Having a wife is oppression.
Cameron Reyes
Just because it doesn't strictly follow Marxist philosophy it doesn't mean it's right-wing. By that definition basically everyone is a fascist. Are you expecting them to make Marxist anime? And fighting for society or being honest is just a personal view, I don't see how it advocates for right-wing traditionalism.
And a lot of anime isn't like that too. Your point? We also see a lot of that shit in western cartoons, and we have shit like King of the Hill here, are cartoons the embodiment of conservatism now?
Evan Myers
Even a liberal is considered a right winger in Holla Forums, so yeah. Why not? It is when said society is almost always feudal or modern capitalist, some even fight to preserve a fascist society, see Psycho Pass.
The majority of anime is like that. Modern western cartoon is left wing as fuck, and rightfully so, but anime? Anime has always been the hotbed of ring wing entertainment.
Even the fucking hentai are right wing because it fucking promotes rape and domination or true love = family man bullshit.
Jaxson King
What kills me the most is that class-based anime actually promotes class colaboration, which always has a poor male/female marrying a rich female/man, and both the families benefit from the relationship.
Never class war.
Matthew Turner
dude topkek quote it please
Eli Ward
"On what foundation is the present family, the bourgeois family, based? On capital, on private gain. In its completely developed form, this family exists only among the bourgeoisie. But this state of things finds its complement in the practical absence of the family among the proletarians, and in public prostitution.
The bourgeois family will vanish as a matter of course when its complement vanishes, and both will vanish with the vanishing of capital.
Do you charge us with wanting to stop the exploitation of children by their parents? To this crime we plead guilty. "
Tyler Parker
But you Communists would introduce community of women, screams the bourgeoisie in chorus.
The bourgeois sees his wife a mere instrument of production. He hears that the instruments of production are to be exploited in common, and, naturally, can come to no other conclusion that the lot of being common to all will likewise fall to the women.
He has not even a suspicion that the real point aimed at is to do away with the status of women as mere instruments of production.
For the rest, nothing is more ridiculous than the virtuous indignation of our bourgeois at the community of women which, they pretend, is to be openly and officially established by the Communists. The Communists have no need to introduce community of women; it has existed almost from time immemorial.
Our bourgeois, not content with having wives and daughters of their proletarians at their disposal, not to speak of common prostitutes, take the greatest pleasure in seducing each other’s wives.
Bourgeois marriage is, in reality, a system of wives in common and thus, at the most, what the Communists might possibly be reproached with is that they desire to introduce, in substitution for a hypocritically concealed, an openly legalised community of women. For the rest, it is self-evident that the abolition of the present system of production must bring with it the abolition of the community of women springing from that system, i.e., of prostitution both public and private.
Jeremiah Collins
good
maybe the communist party can find a way to fill this gap somehow unlikely but i can dream
Henry Perez
lol Am I fascist for dominating my girlfriend in bed now
Mason Martinez
If she doesn't consent to it, yes.
James Smith
He doesn't want to get rid of the possibility of having a wife, or what is essentialy equivalent. He wants to take money out of family. Remember how families were back then.
Jayden Ramirez
He wants to destroy the fucking concept of "bourgeois" family, of "owning" wife.
Unfortunately that concept is prevalent in anime.
Joshua Wright
Families back then were better than what we fucking have now.
The divorse rate was lower and there were less single mothers.
Hunter Rivera
This concept is prevalent everywhere because that's how the system works currently, not just Japan and not just anime.
David Robinson
There was less divorce only because women were by tradition tied to their husband even if their life was shit.
Michael Smith
And? Anime glorifies this concept.
Jackson Clark
And maybe that was better, because divorcing turns their life into more shit.
Chase Richardson
...
Ayden Bennett
Not the same guy, fool.
Camden Edwards
You're equally retarded though
Luis Flores
Families used to be hell of allot larger, as in they stayed together rather than moving out into capitalist ventures. Ants, uncles, grandparents, multiple kids, pets. Most of that was on farms. The extended family is what a 'traditional' family would look like, not the nuclear one. But before that, about a few thousand years, monogamy wasn't even a thing that much.
Nicholas Foster
The nuclear family is a recent invention. Before that people used to live in extended family.
Nicholas Perez
Why is Japan such a fascist shithole? If past alone was enough to explain it, Germany should be as fascist.
Josiah Torres
The Romans weren't exactly the epitome of monogamistic virtue, but somehow they seemed to get on fine. Unlike the godless British or Jove forbid the Germans
That's a good question. They've been in economic stagnation for almost thirty years now. I guess their only saving grace is they haven't torn their social services to shreds so people have a generally "this is fine" attitude. I imagine leftist currents suffered under America's scrutiny just as much.
Don't count them out just yet.
Nathaniel Rogers
You're a fucking idiot. Media not being explicitly Marxist or left wing doesn't make it right wing and reactionary. If having rape fantasies, wanting to protect your friends and family and enjoying sexy babes makes one a fascist reactionary well then the majority of people on this planet fall into one of those categories. Did a Japanese animator fuck your girlfriend or something? You have problems.
Jacob Rogers
Anime is trash.
Anthony Baker
The occupational authorities in East/West Germany spent a good decade attempting to root out all Nazi influence from society. Apart from taking the Emperor down a peg from literal god status and executing some war criminals the US pretty much left Japan to recover by itself (sans a military).
Holocaust denial is a criminal offense in Germany, while Japan has quite a few historians willing to argue that grorrious Nippon dindu nuffin, its all ChiCom propaganda
Jaxson Phillips
lol no.
Global capitalism is sinking into further crisis. The Right has no solution, and will likely only make things worse. When it becomes apparant that all the right-wing demagoguery was just hot air, people will inevitably turn left.
Capitalism is the problem, socialism is the solution. Revolutionary socialism has the long game.
John Cook
I hope so.
Caleb Sanders
Come post on /leftyweebpol/. We're at death's door.
Jose Smith
The right wants to ban loli and generally hates anime.
Nicholas Powell
The politics isn't the problem for peopel like Miyazaki. He's upset that the medium is catering more and more to an otaku niche and thus failing to interest normal people in the medium. In the short term it isn't a big deal, but in the long term it has the potential to largely kill the medium assuming the broad masses don't become otaku.
Brody Barnes
wasn't that board destroyed by a nazi mod?
Kayden Edwards
It's back as of a couple months ago.
Logan Gutierrez
good for them I guess.
Daniel Evans
I think Trump is working with an anti-porn group to try and censor internet porn because of muh innocent children.
Robert Gonzalez
The anime industry needs a good gulaging
Kevin Morales
Japanese don't like leftism because leftism wants to flood every civilized nation with disgusting smelly subhuman mudskins and Japan wants to keep their own country for their own people.
I am amazed at how Holla Forums just can't get over their fixation with destroying ethnic homogeneity. Why do you hate civilized races? Why do you want to force civilized people to live alongside subhumans?
Oliver Ross
I like a lot of the military anime. I don't really mind the right-wing themes too much.
Kevin Lewis
Did you get triggered because your shitpost thread got BTFO?
Brody Thompson
So, you're saying its like humans versus orcs?
Carson Taylor
This is my first post on your shithole board in the past week or so, but I see I've already hit gold.
So tell me, why DO you hate ethnic homogeneity? Why do you hate peaceful happy all-white or all-Japanese communities? Why do you think forcing us to live beside horrible noisy savages is more important than stopping globalism?
Evan Lee
Yes, we all know how just and moral your plan to mass-murder people of other races/who disagree with you is.
Chase Mitchell
None of us support mass migration.
Also I dont support homogenous societies because im a weeb and want to be able to live in japan.
Easton Robinson
The vast bulk of you do, and it'll stop you from ever getting anywhere politically since the bulk of the working class is either openly or quietly racist and won't vote for a leftism that means flooding their country with subhuman scabs for which porky will then use to undercut the white workers and who will always vote for more scabs and more subsidies off the white taxpayer.
Owen King
You will never fit in.
Daniel Martinez
I dont fit in in my home country either way so that doesnt matter.
What makes you think that? Who is "you"?
Sebastian Scott
None of us support mass migration under capitalism at all.
Nathaniel Barnes
No we don't faggot. >>>/Liberalpol/
Jeremiah Fisher
???
Asher Morgan
The left wants to ban loli/hentai/fucking eroge and generally hates anime.
Jackson Brown
The majority of people are actually right-wingers/liberals, they are not leftists, so that much is true.
And no, wanting to protect the institution that is bourgeois family and bourgeois society make you a reactionary.
Matthew Kelly
So who among you are voting for Trump?
Isaiah Hughes
Some anime are actually about genociding hostile alien races, so yeah.
Christopher Jackson
Some books are too. Therefore literature is reactionary, right?
Josiah Garcia
If the majority of literature is like anime (boobs, sex, violence, glorification of purity and cuteness, tradition) then yeah it would be.
Luke Flores
That's not true. It's generally the left in Japan that's pressured by the otaku pandering industries to defend their creative freedom. Western SJWs have no power in Japan and thank god for that.
Aiden Cooper
No they've been influencing certain titles because the publishers are too cheap to make all the cuts they think they'll need for the western audiences. Capcom has been doing it a lot lately.
Hunter Ramirez
That's always been a problem for Japanese publishers, before the blue haired fatasses it was the conservative soccer moms.
Jose Collins
That's one of the only examples and that's a title specifically meant for widespread foreign distribution rather than domestic consumption. It's also the christian right trying to censor sex in games.
Jaxon Ortiz
Are you implying there's any problem?
Gabriel Hill
Kill yourself.
Jonathan Adams
So that subtitle is actually accurate?
Landon Hill
You first, weeb trash.
Adrian Brown
Only "white" people work.
Joshua Gonzalez
Yes. He doesn't like otaku or the subculture they've built for themselves. Miyazaki has always produced anime for children and general audiences. He sees otaku taking over the medium as bad for the future of animation.
Christopher Williams
Well then, he is absolutely correct and I do like some anime. But almost everything new I cannot stand and it's not because it is new.
Jordan Collins
I thought Capcom made Star Ocean too. I just looked it up now. They cut some panty shots and everyone on 2ch was screaming bloody murder and bitching about gaijin pig dogs ruining their games.
Yeah a lot of people don't know that Japan has recently adopted very strict rating laws for console games no nudity or extreme violence anymore. A lot of western games actually have been censored when they were localized for Japan.
Camden Davis
Anime unlike western animation is made for everyone. It's something I like about the media in Japan. If Miyazaki got his way the entire medium would be underdeveloped like comics and cartoons are in the West for the most part. Ghost in the Shell, Berserk, Paranoia Agents, Psycho Pass and tons of other works wouldn't exist if every animator had his attitude. I completely disagree with him.
Caleb Gomez
Yes and no.
Capitalism and socialism are opposing ends of the cycle of civilizational progress. Capitalism succeeds until it fails, and then socialism is is the reaction to that. Socialism succeeds until it fails, and then capitalism arises again etc etc
The "long game" would be the REAL revolution of breaking the cycle altogether and finding the right balance.
Adrian King
What? Source? The left in Japan doesn't really care about anime. The first appearance of wanting to ban "problematic" anime and manga was Tokyo's governor who's right-wing.
Sebastian Hughes
I agree with him somewhat, but I do enjoy otaku anime and I hope for both types of anime to continue to be produced. Your dislike of new anime is probably due to a fairly casual interest in the medium. There are great series coming out every year, but they generally aren't the most popular or shows the weebs obsess over.
I don't think that is true. I do agree his ideal for the medium would be undesirable. I want both general audience and otaku anime to flourish.
Adrian Morales
You seem to be using different words for social democracy and neoliberalism. Welcome to leftypol!
Isaiah Evans
...
Camden Young
Yes I want anime from all genres to flourish that wouldn't be possible if everyone thought it should only be made for children like Miyazaki wants. It would make the medium underdeveloped like in the West. I can't think of any western animation that has the depth of soemthing like Ghost in the Shell.
Luke Phillips
I agree, but not even most Japanese animation can't compare to the 1995 GitS film. It's on a whole different level.
I bet if you asked Miyazaki he would probably praise the GitS movie. I don't think that's the particular kind of animation he takes issue with. He's also oddly close with Anno despite him directing/producing some clearly otaku targeted anime. I think Miyazaki more concerned with the overall trend taking over the medium than the mere existence of otaku anime.
Justin Gutierrez
Ameriburger here, so I might be talking out my ass, but aren't occidental comics everywhere other than America FAR more healthy and genre-diverse? I'm under the general impression every genre of comic in the US other than capeshit & newspaper funnies were destroyed by the Comics Code, but that production of every genre and consumption of them by every demographic is much more common, just like in the "Golden Age" pre-Code
Elijah Collins
...
Jose Ross
japan is actually the most westernized country, they are the only non white country to actually embrace western ideas, this lead to them embracing the idea of colonialism, which lead to occupying the whole of asia and ww2.. and well after ww2, MacArthur pretty much Americanized them japs, built a statue of himself, then split.
I have a feeling america or that be need japan to re militarize for the future maybe war against china.
Seriously, america isnt doing anything to stop them, so that tells you a lot
Kayden Hernandez
You're probably right but I think his attitude could have really hurt the medium in it's early stages. Which is something continuously happening in the west. Cartoons, videogames and comics in the west are all held back from their full potential based on that attitude. I think the Otaku stuff can be creepy and annoying, but I prefer what we have now to Miyazaki's ideal by a wide margin.
Yes you'd be right to an extent. The Italian and French actually had a very interesting comic book scene in particular. You should look up the 10 cent plague. It's a book that really explains the Comics code and what it did to the medium in detail.
Brandon Mitchell
cartoons are for every one Anime is for manchildren who like to be pander to
Colton Nelson
euros are way better at comics cause they come with a more open minded outlook. In the 90's british writers like alan moore, grant morrison, neil gaiman, and Garth Ennis where all the rage. American comic became just capeshit after the comics code. BUTTTTTTTT, if you are nerd scholar of comics, like an actual nerd, not, " i watched starwars im such a geek" nerd, you would know what underground comix, r crumb, harvey pekar, joe matt are. Weird, out there type of comic books where forced underground in america.
Matthew Powell
Most cartoons are made for children and even cartoons made for adults have to hold back. Moral Oral, which was fantastic, got pulled off the air because it became to serious and dark. Anime is produced for a variety of different demographics. I'm not a weeb actually. I watch anime every few months. I actually read more comics and watch more cartoons then anime or manga.
Aiden Scott
The good comics we get from the American underground just depress me because we could have had even more. A ton of artists quit during the comic book code days because they couldn't get their work published or distributed.
Jose Foster
Is that really why it got pulled? I fucking loved that show.
Ryan Long
Japan's a liberal democracy with a dominant right wing party. Hardly a fascist shithole unless you want to strip the word "fascist" of all meaning.
Nolan Campbell
Generic goop like Moral Orel, Family Guy, and The Simpsons are a waste of the medium, and could for the most part be done easier and cheaper in live action. Animation should generally be reserved for things that would be a lot more expensive if attempted in any other way. This is also one of the main reasons I despise slice-of-life moeshit
Andrew Hall
You clearly never watched the show.
Jonathan Sanders
Yes the adult swim executive said they wanted it darker and when the creators did it. The standard department said it was took dark for a cartoon even if it was aimed at adults. So they canceled it.
Noah Flores
Can you name some from 2015 and 2016? As someone who definitely doesn't have only a casual interest in the medium, those teo years have been terrible in comparision to previous years, with very few good anime.
David Jenkins
No, it's not. You can go and watch the movie and see for yourself.
Landon Gray
TRIGGERED
Jackson White
America is pushing for the remilitarization of Japan, Abe is a puppet, the US needs a huge military base in Asia against China and NK.
Eli Martin
Never forget Samurai Flamenco, which everyone but some pockets of /a/ fucking hated. I will never forgive the gooks for what they did to that show.
I actually agree to some extent with this duder. Unless you have a particular style you want to do just do live-action. I'm not sure how accurate this is but I've been told that Japs prefer cartoons subconsciously because the characters are more "attractive" (ie white) in anime. For example it's why they buttfucked the Lilo & Stitch continuity in the Stitch anime and replaced Lilo with a cumskin.
Dude, all the pros in the medium are working on Wanpanman. Then there's Ore Monogatari, Buddyfight (or so I've heard)… honestly, I haven't been keeping up, too busy with other stuff like my novel, so yeah that's all I got. Honestly looking at the number of animes the industry is pumping out at any given moment I'm really surprised, the industry makes way more content with far less money than the American industry. We don't need quite literally 100 animes per season. You could watch 5 hours a day of anime and still not see everything when it's busy. That's easily more scripted content than the entire American industry, possibly with movies included. I think it would be best for the industry and especially the animators if they calmed it down and stopped adapting every fucking light novel or manga that even slightly catches on.
I like to blame gringos as much as the next guy but Shinzo is part of this cult called Nippon Kaigi.
William Watson
Also, I don't really think anime is right wing, it's just traditionalist. The left is effectively "the opposition to hierarchy and radical individualism". Anime, like Japan, is opposed to radical individualism and bootstraps bullshit but loves hierarchy and radical collectivism.
Anthony Baker
...
Logan Myers
The left in the world does care about Japan, and it's actually the SJWs who get Rapelay withdrawn from stores years after it was released.
Nathan Rivera
The left in Japan has no power.
We are talking about the Left in the world.
Isaiah Brown
Traditionalism is reactionary and right wing.
Bentley Jackson
Reactionary /=/ right wing
Colton Russell
What a stupid thread this has become.
I'm not sure you've watched much anime. Or any at all. We're talking 4/5 of the stories concerning schoolkids, and about half functionally lacking one of the genders. At the moment, I can't recall a single title concerned with marriage dynamics.
Well that's a demonstrably false assumption.
Rapelay was withdrawn because it was sold illegally and the whole brouhaha made the Japanese copyright holders take notice.
Luis Carter
Have you watched much anime? Harem, shonen battles, shoujo are much more than girl-only shows. And all of them favor one true love and marriage. Nigger what?
Joseph Richardson
It is right wing when it regresses to a right wing society.
