Families used to be hell of allot larger, as in they stayed together rather than moving out into capitalist ventures. Ants, uncles, grandparents, multiple kids, pets. Most of that was on farms. The extended family is what a 'traditional' family would look like, not the nuclear one. But before that, about a few thousand years, monogamy wasn't even a thing that much.

Cartoons, videogames and comics in the west are all held back from their full potential based on that attitude. Yes you'd be right to an extent. The Italian and French actually had a very interesting comic book scene in particular. You should look up the 10 cent plague. It's a book that really explains the Comics code and what it did to the medium in detail.

Most cartoons are made for children and even cartoons made for adults have to hold back. Moral Oral, which was fantastic, got pulled off the air because it became to serious and dark. Anime is produced for a variety of different demographics. I'm not a weeb actually. I watch anime every few months. I actually read more comics and watch more cartoons then anime or manga.

The good comics we get from the American underground just depress me because we could have had even more. A ton of artists quit during the comic book code days because they couldn't get their work published or distributed.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but I've been told that Japs prefer cartoons subconsciously because the characters are more "attractive" (ie white) in anime. For example it's why they buttfucked the Lilo & Stitch continuity in the Stitch anime and replaced Lilo with a cumskin.

Honestly looking at the number of animes the industry is pumping out at any given moment I'm really surprised, the industry makes way more content with far less money than the American industry. We don't need quite literally 100 animes per season. You could watch 5 hours a day of anime and still not see everything when it's busy. That's easily more scripted content than the entire American industry, possibly with movies included. I think it would be best for the industry and especially the animators if they calmed it down and stopped adapting every fucking light novel or manga that even slightly catches on.
