Librivox isn't always terrible, but you should skim over anything you're thinking of downloading first, to make sure you don't end with one of those recordings.

I essentially use audio books to give something a quick glance over. If there's anything in there that I think may be of worth to me, I'll read the book properly at a later date.

has great recommendations, but those may be daunting or dry for someone just starting unless you're very interested. Listening is like reading where it's something you train for better comprehension. I'm at 2x speed in my player currently with no loss in comprehension.
