I'll try to give you straightest answer I can, but it may not line up with Orthodox Teaching but I"m pretty sure it lines up with the Bible.

So that's the first point, only God Himself could possibly satisfy that requirement to take the place in death for every human being. Now the next point is where it gets a little mind-stretching, namely: Even so, how could eternal death be paid in only three days? That would take, well, a miracle.

So here's my honest view on it. The Bible clearly states that God exists outside of this universe of time, space, matter, and energy. It literally didn't exist until He spoke it into being. Or any of it's stuff, like time or space. This implies that God is transcendent to this universe. And He's transcendent in not only the space, but also it's matter, it's energy, and yes, it's time. God must have at least two dimensions of time within which to operate, not just one as we are currently constrained to. If you think of God's time as a geometric plane, instead of like our geometric line, then you might imagine a literal eternity of focus God could apply to every.single.instant. of this timeframe. Thus, Christ could literally suffer an eternal punishment during the three days He was in the grave. Hope that makes sense user.

Eh, not really. IMO, It's more like Shinto and pre-Christian European religions are distant cousins with remarkably similar phenotypes and taste in clothing. I went down this road before and found that while much of it is very similar to what was presumably practiced in pre-Christian Europe, the core is still firmly rooted in the eastern tradition. Joseph Campbell wrote an extremely relevant essay on this subject entitled "The Separation of East and West" that you can find in Myths to Live By that will give you a greater idea of what I'm talking about.

That said, I believe that Shinto is an excellent inspiration for a potential revival of pre-Christian religious practice because even though much of what they do is informed by incompatible core world views, as much - if not more - is informed by animistic practices that are eminently suitable to crib from. Just don't get too crazy and actually look into it (and I mean really look into it, think "doctoral thesis" instead of "Wikipedia") before you decide to play with any given idea.
