Thoughts on "abolishing restaurants"?

Tbh it's a waste of space. Just order online and deliver food to houses. With drones.

I hope this is bait.

I feel really out of place at any restaurant other than a cheap shitty diner and I hope to slaughter anybody who goes to eat at a $300/plate restaurant one day.

Nooo! Restaurants are like one of the few non-essential service things I really like. You get to sit in a large room with stylish interior, meticulously being kept in order by the floor runner, and then you get to taste the artistry of the cook.

I think there should be more respect for restaurant workers by the customers, you are a guest permitted to enjoy the art of the waiters and cooks.

More like the waiters and cooks are permitted to my money.

Such a capitalist perspective. Never went to a restaurant that cared about the restaurant more than the money?

They wouldn't be a waiter if they could get money by an easier way

In europe there are highly paid waitors, often family restaurants have cousins and the owners as waiters.

That's the best excuse for your shit you can come up with?

"They're poor, they deserve to put up with my shit"? Really?

Fuck you.

They need my business more than I need their food. To say otherwise is to deny the oppressiveness of laboring in capitalism.

Cooking benefits greatly from economies of scale, cooking for one takes the same amount of work as cooking for two or three, with the right tools and equipment you can feed hundreds with a few workers in the same amount of time it takes for one person to feed himself, cleaning up is the same way. I agree that restaurants the way they are now suck, but its entirely due to the way labor is arranged. I would love to be in a cafeteria coop where i put in a few hours of drudgery now and then (while making it as comfortable as possible) so I didnt have to cook for myself every night. The guy who wrote this is missing the fact that those peasants had servants as well, women did all the domestic work or faced the consequences, it was also a relationship of domination.

t. things you imagined i said

PLEASE STOP! AM GONNA THROW UP! THIS IS TOO MUCH BOURGIE IDEOLOGY FOR ME!

Who the fuck would voluntarily be a waiter?

Am all for public kitchens and like school cafeterias or something.. But Restaurants, from their birth, are the epitome of bourgie ideology!

Faggot

Not all restaurants, but all fast food chains, and maybe 90% of the rest. There are way too many fucking restaurants. Seriously. I work in one, as a waitress and it's a complete waste of fucking time. From 9am to about 4 I'm just fuck around and shitpost and fiddle with my phone. Complete waste of time.

Jeez, this guy sounds like he swallowed Orwell's critque of restaurants in Down and Out, and didn't know when to stop.

???
It would be much better to have everything custom order, rather than from a restaurant.

public kitchens organized with farms locally. this is easy mode

Istg leftypol is too fuckin much 😭😆

😂😂😂😂😂👌👌👌👌

You can't imagine post-capitalist waitstaff?
I would volunteer.

In forty years tumblrs servers will be underwater.

I dunno about being a waiter, but I like cooking, especially to share something that others will enjoy

idk, maybe the 'restaurants' could be more cafeteria-style where people just collect their own food

what a nice thought

Implying we like it. This place gets less moderation than Holla Forums.

Pls tell me Holla Forums isn't hosted near the coast

I was thinking this too, but really it's no one's fault but their own if they take this place too seriously.

Restaurants just should be changed not abolished. For example no people who only do waiting. Let the cooks enjoy delivering your food to you after you take it from an automated machine order. Another idea is a restaurant that you make your own food and they help teach you how to cook their specialities. Also you should have more control over your order size to avoid food waste. Any kind of food that is not contaminated can be shared to anyone to not go to waste ( like fries) of course this is secondary to the main meals to not freak out germaphobes.

Why couldn't restaurants exist in a post-capitalist society? Aren't there already worker-owned restaurants?

I'm sorry I'm on my second bottle of jim beam so this argument isn't as accurate or effective I guess as it could be but, forget my excuses. You're a fat cunt. Like a big ass beef curtain vagina of a dude.

tfw robots will gain consciousness and I'll scream for their rights
because they can feel
and I want to be a robot

If a robot can reasonably be considered to think it deserves rights, toasters don't need rights

I used to work in the restaurant/food service industry and the way most of them are run at the moment I would completely be in favor of their absolute abolition.

When I was a waiter, in between periods when the restaurant was just about empty, I'd help the cooks with their prep work and stuff and sometimes they'd be able to teach me things about cooking. Some people do really enjoy the work, and if it's transformed from its current high-stress, utterly subservient position I imagine there would be more than a few people that would volunteer to do it for this or that reason.

In Star Trek the civilians working in the bar/lounge Ten Forward were all volunteers, and really their position on the ship was completely superfluous. All you had to do was say "Computer: Romulan Ale, neat." and it could beam it right to the table you were sitting at. Having a human (or whatever) do the work served no real purpose, but in exchange they got to travel on a top-of-the-line starship. Not a bad trade for ferrying someone's drinks to them.

Specialization is important and it's efficient to have chefs stay in the same place to work. Also compartmentalizing spaces for particular purposes helps people to change what sort of mental space they're in. Commies should very much favor disconnected from the workplace at the end of the workday.

I fucking hate the ideology of the home cook. It damns a member of the household to slave away for hours when it could be accomplished so much easier cooperatively. Kitchens in an individual dwelling should be superfluous, a place to make coffee and some simple dishes. The real food should be close by and healthy. If you want to cook or love cooking – go volunteer, it'll be great. Everyone else gets to eat well and not worry about it for the rest of the day, and food isn't wasted in the pursuit of profit

Like Zizek said about being antisocial, not everybody wants to be buddy-buddy with their neighbors, live in a kibbutz, and share stuff.

But I guess a lot of people would enjoy that, judging from the number of people who seem to like apartments in cities. Weirdos

Don't have to be buddy-buddy, I'm sure people could still order food and just come and pick it up or have it delivered by drone or something.

No.

Socialism should provide all people with access to restaurants.

Restaurants can also be a celebration of proletarian traditional artistry!

Im sad no one gave me feedback on my ideas. I guess they werent good.
