People upload Youtube videos to make money, they don't do it for free. The more views, the more money.

Google itself invests heavily in developing Chrome and Android so they can set the defaults to google search, youtube etc because that brings in the most users since most people never step outside the default settings. Vid.me doesn't have it's own browser or phone OS where they can set the defaults to their sites so that means less users and less money for video uploaders.

The only thing that could really change that is if Youtube adbucks dry up.

The problem will always be hosting and bandwidth costs to reduce that you have to only let upload people willing to give their true identities so only real creators will put out there contents. Of course there is the problem of confidentiality and hacking.
