The wealthy produce nothing themselves. Their only claim to usefulness of any kind is directing and organizing the flow of work. The value of this is always questionable, because they direct and organize with their own best interests in mind, not those of the nation.

When they do this so poorly that the system begins collapsing and the people doing all the actual work live in ever worsening conditions, even though overall productivity is rising, the value of the wealthy to society drops from questionable to blatantly negative and destructive.
