Michigan generally votes democrat (not always) but is conservative at the same time. It's hard to explain to somebody that didn't grow up there with union family members. The people that have working/middle-class jobs belong to unions that tell them how to vote, and they abide. It's hard to explain to somebody that is from a non-union state.
