So whats happening with the attempted reboot of this? I know an user on here is trying to generate interest ( or was) in a potential reboot.

I want a Liru like waifu similator with Wendy. This is what matters.

The guy you are talking about is Toonspew. I think he needs to somehow try and find people who are interesting in animating this and create some shorts ( maybe like Gorillaz G-Bites?).

Apparently CN airs GS frequently, so maybe they are testing the waters?

This could be CN answer to the Loud House / My little Pony.

But….

CN is stupid.

I very much doubt this would ever get a reboot. Even if it did it would be shit. Not like the original Ghoul School was some piece of fine art in the first place. No one really wants this. They just want an excuse to have more stuff of their shit waifus everywhere.

Who'd voice the girls?

Nightmare mode- No Tara Strong

...

What happened with the VA strike? If its still on they will hire non-syndicate VA

whos that bitch on right?

is it the punctuation? if so I would like to tell you that I was in a rush.

Gruftine from School for Vampires. I'm actually going to commission an artist for a aged up pin up of her.

I'm also going to commission a BDSM pin up of Sibella. Anyone got any suggestions to what they want to see?

AKA abusefag's punching bag waifu?

I don't really know about him.

Winnie either needs to have Canadian accent or a Southern drawl

Anyone got any suggestions to what they want to see?

footjob

Vampire blowjob where she sucks both the blood and cum from a guy's dick/balls.

I'll put that in a separate one. This one is going to have her submissive. I'm kinda angling for something like the pictures below

Forgot to add, I have an artist in mind but I was wondering if anyone knows any artists they'd recommend.

Please ground yourselves in reality.

No. Fuck no. Please no.

Actually with Toonspews vast array of OC's created, it could end up like LH.

At least they look more like proper monsters than that Anime Dragon maid bullshit.

Its a shame because the "community" (if you can call it that) has created some nice designs and personalities for them. At the same time they've made some great porn but it probably scares studios off.

this ones look like came from a free to play MMO the designs wont work on animation. They need to be redesigned to be more stream lined, specially the moth girls and the spider woman monster.

To paraphrase Zone-Tan- If the fate of shows depended on how much porn there is of it, MLP would have been cancelled long ago.

People who like this show are no better than furries.

1) Sibella tied to the rack arching her back as her limbs are pulled. She's clearly enjoying the "pain", writhing about on the wooden table.

2) Sibella eagerly getting ready to try out her new toy; an "Iron Maiden" with the spikes replaced with dildos.

I like how you think.

What a poorly disguised waifu/porn request thread.

...

These threads are always an unexpected surprise. Hopefully the Spewster himself makes an appearance.

...

I've always liked his idea of Sibella being a hidden geek.

...

There's only two OCs in that pic, but I get what you're saying. Seems like he has a plan for each of them though, with actual writing value for their appearance in the scripts.

Elsa gets no fucking love in these threads, someone come up with some goddamn art of her and some episode ideas.

There have been quite a few artists attracted to Elsa's new look. But I certainly agree that she could use more love.

Ahhh, I'm reminded of that lovely turn of phrase "Don't worry, they're not mine, but they're real."

Last pic really does it for me. Need more of this. Fidgity goth, yes please.

I finally understand. This was monstergirls before the fad appeared in animeland and became mainstream. They're lolis too to boot.

...

I don't get Toonspew's reboot.

It's so different from the movie, why doesn't he just make his own "Monsters In School" story? It's not like Ghoul School is the only one to do it.

Not that I wouldn't love for Ghoul School to come back in some way, and I get changes would have to be made for modern standards. I'm just don't get why he felt the need to change/cut out so much.

Shit-tier taste. Kill yourself faggot.

Nostalgia, maybe they like the characters. Easier to work with something per-established than from the very start.

Also where is Toonspew anyways? Haven't seen him in a while.

But like I said, he changed a lot. His version of Elsa especially is like a completely different character.

I don't think he's posted here since Halloween.

Why is the werewolf just furry pepper ann?

Oh God, another monsters kids show. How many is it now? Groovy Ghoulies, Drak Pack, Franken Fran, that one that was like Bratz with monsters, didn't John Byrne do his own teenage monster girls story? How many cocaine martinis do you need before this starts to look like a good idea?

...

This is based on that Scooby Doo movie from the red shirt era right? Was there anything else made based on this or are they just randomly spinning off a series from a 30+ year old Scooby Doo movie?

I meant like the monsters are kids. Or the monsters are monsters' kids. Or the kids are monsters. MAYBE I MISPLACED AN APOSTROPHE YOU CUNT

Mythological creatures were in cartoons since forever

Are you referring to her hair? She didn't have that in the movie, it's a fan redesign.

Simmer down.
This isn't Holla Forums, adding swears doesn't add merit to your argument here

They're clearly joking.

It's true, I've been lurking rather than trying to keep threads bumped without sufficient new content to sustain them. I haven't been idle in that time but I did think it was better to hold new content back until October approaches.

In that time though, I've been down to California and met with the writer of the original movie, Glenn Leopold. He's had his hand in a number of the Scooby movies beyond Ghoul School, and he's delighted to hear that the movie still has fans (or even tongue-in-cheek "fans" in the sense that Tommy Wiseau or Nicolas Cage have). I've shown him the early work for the pitch bible and character redesigns and he's impressed, and has contributed feedback and mentorship to the project. When there is sufficient content and polish to it he will help pass it through to the desk of WB where it will live or die on its own merits.

"Why not just package this as a wholly original creation?" was a question discussed. It's reasonable, but presently that is a fall-back option. Some of the big reasons for why to keep this as "Ghoul School":

That said, if I get a solid "no" from WB then I'll go to work changing the names and working it up as a simple novel or series of novels and quietly seek to publish it for the enjoyment of writing the story. If that should get it's own fanbase and optioned for TV at some future date then that's great, it's the long and scenic route to getting to the same place.

So, while we have this thread here, would anyone like to suggest requests or ideas for writefagging? Or ask other specific questions about the development being worked on?

...

Damn, man, sounds like things are going well for you.

You mean Winnie? Maybe someday some over achieving user will do it, but for now I'd chalk it up in the "things that are to good for this world" territory.

...

Congratulations on getting Glenn on board with this. You've really managed to go a long way with this.

How much progress would you say you've made in setting up a proper pitch by the way? Would you still be willing to hear any ideas for the project?

OK Toon, as the mastermind behind all this, its time to test your mettle.

Draw me an Elsa

Doesn't matter, draw me an Elsa.

The jews are sometimes pretty retarded at making profit.

Here's an idea that I've been sitting on for quite some time. One of the Calloway Cadets of your choice accidentally walking in on a scantily clad Elsa fresh out of the shower sporting a noticeable bulge beneath her towel or bathrobe.

No.

Are those scouts who lived next door gonna be in the show? I'm assuming Scooby won't.

Bruh, loli Gruftine is das best Gruftine.

Henry der duck. But to be honest, he can be a fucking queen when is about take commissions.

Is that a cake?
Would you like draw pic related but with Batoria from Die Schule der kleinen Vampire?

This is abusefag:

So I don't get it, with all the hot girls in Scooby-Doo which seem to appear as often as the franchise good taste in music… why Ghoul School?

I guess they look the most interesting and because they don't really have personalities in the movie, Anons can project their ideal woman onto them.

They did have personalities, just not very well developed ones.

Your anagrams are showing, doctor.
That pic is hot.

It was productive trip! I also got to attend a film festival that was happening at the same time. So even if this whole project goes ass-up at some point in the future at least I've met and got autographs (on a couple of Ghoul School animation cells, even) from someone who has had an impact in the Hanna-Barbera body of work.

I printed out a first draft of the pitch to share with Glenn in February. It had most of the essentials as I understand it; an introduction, overview, notes on major themes and story structure, and full page bios and relationship trees for the five main characters accompanied with art from Mr. D and DLT commissioned or donated specifically for this pitch bible. A brief descriptions of the secondary characters followed (this is one area where Glenn asked me to expand on, wanting to see full writeups for the boys and OCs). Finally, a couple pages at the back were stuffed full of some of the best fanart from past threads just as a demonstration of fan support. I need to write up a dozen episode springboards and a description of the season one arc idea for the second draft.

I'm always willing to hear ideas. I can't promise I'll like it or think it will work well in conjunction with the body of work already assembled, but you never know. And you also never know what could be reworked slightly and be good fodder in a different part of the show. Last time I was here a random post gave me the name for the Gillman's daughter that I was stuck on.

Challenge accepted! I'll have to find a decent pencil and sketchpad and get back to you. Don't expect much, it's been at least 15 years since I tried to draw anything.

Yes, and yes. Scooby and other core Scooby characters are not part of this plan. As fun as seeing Shaggy and the gang revisit the Ghoul School characters would be those characters are a closely guarded CN property and in the end the point of this project is to give the Ghoul girls the spotlight they always deserved.

The Calloway Cadets (see pic) are intended as foils for the girls - certainly not in every episode, but important reoccuring characters all the same. These designs represent an effort to flesh out the boys, keeping them fundamentally human but also weird and unique enough that they can contend with the girls as rivals. To that end they are based on classic horror trope characters themselves, just not inhuman monsters like the girls are.

Abusefag huh? I don't think we've ever met in a thread before. So what's your deal? And how does beating up a ghost even work?

Wait I thought you were pitching this to CN? And who'll be the camp counselor then?

I am pitching it to CN. What I mean is that from CN's perspective it is taking less of a risk to try out a pilot using a handful of forgotten 80's characters than to put some of their star characters into it (especially since Scooby and the rest are already in their own show currently, "Be Cool, Scooby Doo", and WB has a policy of not spreading their properties too thin by involving the same franchise in multiple shows at once).

Also, Shaggy was the gym teacher at a school, not a camp counselor. There are no plans for a replacement "fish out of water human" character, instead wanting to focus exclusively on the girls themselves and their awkward attempts to fit into human social norms and wrestling with their own monstrous sides.

Oh yeah. Man this thread makes me want to re-watch the red shirt movies. Especially the racing one.

Don't do that; try Adult Swim instead.

Well hard questions should be asked like:

Target Demo, "Why not put money into Monster High instead", and "Sans Fapbait whats the appeal".

I see Xj9 often enough with these characters and the appeal style is the same, but MLAATR had 1950s artistic design, and had my attention before I knew what sex was because of the goofy action.

Was Shaggy Gay or was he Trans?

Well, I see no reason to continue living…

It's all about Sybilla.

Does that make me a necrofag? Ya know, cause she's technically dead?

Yes. If the shit posting against /monster/ is correct, anything that isn't strictly human is furry.

Sure, they'll cute the animation quality, fill it with an agenda, and throw queer sexualities on all the characters.

Well, I guess it depends on how open you are to new ideas at the moment. A while back in October I expressed having my own ideas which you seemed open to hear I hope the name Dr. Elyk rings a bell but I am fully aware that it has been a long time since we've made contact so you may have changed your mind or no longer feel it necessary. If you're still willing to hear me out, I'd be happy to discuss. If not, I'll just drop it and move on, but I might still be open to help in some way if you want.

If you are really set on pitching to CN, I will admit it does raise a couple concerns. Two off the top of my head would be (though take what I say with a grain of salt):

1. How story driven is your show? CN has been making it pretty clearly that they don't like story lines and just want shows they can run in any order. They also seem to have made it clear that they only want 11-minute episodes just to add to that.

2. I'm may have to agree with on this. When pitching, you may want to give them some perhaps simpler looking designs.

Other than that, I'd recommend a little further research on CN before going in guns a-blazin'.

Do you have connections or worked before? That is a big leap forward.

Yeah, point taken. I didn't think to speak specifically in my previous post but you're right, Adult Swim would be a much better home for this show and pitch. From the start I've made a clear goal of taking it in a more adult direction (and not just for fapbait potential). I was speaking of CN as a channel in the broad sense, since ultimately they're all under the WB umbrella and if the powers that be would prefer to repackage it as a direct-to-video or some sideways move like that, I'm not in a position to argue with them.

Glenn has contacts in WB, yes.

Hello Doc, good to see you here. Yes, I was a fan of your writing and thought you had some promising ideas. You seem like a smart and creative guy and I'm happy to hear you out. Do keep in mind that it isn't strictly pass/fail either, if an idea might not work strictly as presented, but a little reworking to make it fit is within reach, be open to it. The biggest lesson I've learned since starting this is the aphorism "Kill your darlings". Even an idea that is really clever and generally brilliant may not work *in that project* and you have to be willing to put some of your best efforts on the shelf and save them for another opportunity yet to come.

Regarding I agree as well, but at this stage I am not overly concerned. I've made a point of displaying both the more detailed, comic-friendly portraits by Mr. D alongside the simpler, more animation-friendly work by DLT in the pitch bible. Glenn echoed this sentiment when we spoke, noting that art styles routinely go through art shifts between concept and final production and not to get too hung up on it. At this stage it's most important to make the characters' personalities "pop" off the page as much as possible so that a casual reader skimming the pitch can quickly grasp the collection of tropes that they fall into and their role in the larger product. From the perspective of the studio it is less work to "dumb down" a character design than to "build up".

Poor western attempt at monster girls.

It's nice to hear you were a fan of my work. (Which stories did you read by the way?)

If you're really open for it, I would definitely like to bounce some ideas around at some point, maybe even share some of my own concepts. I do want to know how many elements you feel are set in stone for the project (if any at all) before I start making certain suggestions. This is YOUR project, and while I may have some different views on some elements as you may already know, I'm going to have to accept that you ultimately have the final say on what gets pitched. I don't want to waste your time.

Also, yeah I guess Adult Swim could be an option. Personally, I feel Ghoul School would work best as something both kids and adults can enjoy, but that's me. Have you by any chance looked at the new Boomerang app? WB has announce releasing new shows on it, including a new Wacky Races if that puts things into perspective. It's probably no secret that streaming is slowly ripping cable in half by the asshole even as we speak, so this app may be a nice home. I think they intend to release the original film on there as well.

Anyways, it's great to be able to talk with you after all this time. Let me know what you'd like to discuss when you can.

He's a closet werewolf

Jap "monster" girls look more like humans in costumes.

will user kun deliver?

As someone that has actually seen Monster high old webseries and movies, I agree, yes I am the guy that got banned like 3 times on /monster/ for posting monster high girls :(

that said, you need to tone down your overly designed characters, it is good for a comic but bad for a cartoon.

The artist I was going to commission has fallen through. Looking for another one that isn't Henry or Lynx.

Hmmm… what do you mean by this? How would the characters act? Would Tanis act like the pissed off adult trapped in an childs body?

furanH, destiji or jlullaby would take commisions i think

Please no.

So is the idea to just make a Moe Monstergirl show just Westernized?

go back >>>/monster/

No I mean I hate the genre completely. Its just kinda disappointing really. Your gonna get more fapbait material from artist requests on blogs, and I don't get the point of it otherwise.

"Watch these sorta sexual characters but not really bumble about in semi-sexual situations but in boring dullfuckery" is not my idea of a good time.

I'll be honest, I don't really come to these threads for the fapbait. I just like monsters and this movie.

The fapbait/prettied-up redesigns can get a little annoying.

Like I like Monster Redesigns as well. And I liked the movie.

With some effort, I see something like MLAATR but updated done. Maybe with a bit more worldbuilding.

I dont give a fuck about the sexual part really, but there is a lot of potential quirky content that could be made. A lot of old CM cartoons are seemingly in boring situations like Dexters Lab mainly just being inside a single house but it's what goes on in the house that's interesting. Same concept with Ghoul School I would expect

I would personally like less focus on trying to make all the monsters attractive. Sibella I understand because she's a vampire, Tanis I can accept being cute because it helps establish that she's young, and Phantasma may also be more understandable than others.

On the other hand, Elsa looking like a supermodel and Winnie being a sexy lumberjack are kind of silly. Fuck, I'd imagine Winnie wouldn't want to wear that much clothing keeping the fact that she's covered with fur in mind. Her dad in the film didn't even wear a shirt.

The worst may be some attempts I've seen at making Revolta look attractive. Why would someone named "Revolta" look attractive at all?

It could be worse.

...

There are all sorts of potential hijinks the ghouls could get into if they were given a show. A big draw for me is the potential the concepts have.

The idea of a finishing school for monsters alone sounds fucking hilarious.

sure is, but i think the bigger challenge for graduating a monster school will be doing something different than pixar.

We don't have to see that. Ghoul College doesn't sound as fun.

I hate you faggots.

Jesus, how autistic are you?

with art from a fucking loli/shota porn artist. are you fucking serious?

With a name like Mr. D would there be any doubt on what he does? But there's porn artists who have strong sense of design too, so whatever works.

Loud Houses comic creator made an incestual Oedipus comic.

Rebecca sugar Draws underage gay box sex.

If anything being a sexual deviant seems to get you jobs.

I wrote that by accident and now my mind has gone to very strange places.

Point is she drew Ed Edd and Eddy Porn.

Was it underage? Are we sure she didn't age them up?

yes ive seen it, they're the same ages as in the show.

Who's the artist of the first pic of
I really dig the thick-n-thin stylization this mystery artist does the best out of the thread. I threw it in Yandex but pulled up nadda.

Brokenlynx21 I believe is what he goes by.

I didn't even realize how much I wanted this very thing.

I'll hold my breath because, why would anything good ever happen?

But I do like the idea of monsters at a boarding school trying to learn little foibles of humanity and the idea of having the 'rival school' be more along the lines of an in between for human society.

Will there be any play as to how their parents view the situation? I remember them showing up in the movie and being super stoked with things. Would their motivations in the possible show be a little more on the practical side? Like integration in human society means no longer having to deal with monster hunters?

I hate you faggots so much, and you Toonspew, just made the top of the list

that sounds like complete dogshit, get your head out of your ass you waifufaggot

I think Toonspew may have cut out all but one of the fathers from the movie.

One of the only good parts of GS was the fathers threatening Scooby and Shaggy that they will fuck them up if anything happens to their daughters.

One of things I've always wondered ever since Toonspew started this thing is, what does Dracula himself do in this setting? What would Dracula do in the 21st century?

I believe Dracula is the only one he kept.

His version doesn't seem to care about Sibella that much, which is odd considering how like you said he straight up threatened Shaggy over her.

Yup thats the one. The rivalry with Herny is also great.

You've convinced me to stop liking this thing and stop finding a character adorable.

I'm going to avoid the obvious joke of an immortal bloodsucker being a loan officer.

His Dracula has sired quite a few children over the centuries. So maybe he just has to juggle time for all his kids. Its been a while since I read the original novel but I cant really imagine him being a family man. It wouldn't surprise me if he just doesn't know how to handle his kids and shipped Sibella off to a boarding school.

I don't know, Family Man Dracula sounds hilarious enough to work.

That could be a really interesting part of the girls characters. Especially Sibella's. Remember she's the daughter of THE Dracula, one of the greatest, if not the greatest vampires in history. She'd certainly have an image to keep up.

Eh… they tried in that in Hotel Transylvania and I don't know, this is just my opinion, but that Sandler Dracula felt really well…. not funny at all, a bit annoying in fact.

It seriously would. I'm admittedly quite salty that Toonspew doesn't want to include most of the fathers and made Dracula less involved with Sibella.

Were you expecting anything good from Sandler? Just because it didn't work there doesn't mean it can't work her.

Justice League Action artist

I can just hear Dracula with Bing Crosby's voice.

"Now listen Sibella. Daddy has to take care of some business setting the monster/human treaties concerning some things Daddy did back during his wild years. So rather than keep you here in the house all alone I'm sending you to a boarding school."

"Now take these delicious, delicious oranges with you and make plenty of new friends. Why I believe your pen-pal Tanis is going as well while The Royal Historical Society is returning some of the priceless artifacts back to her fathers crypt. Goodbye, daddy loves you, and just remember to keep safe and that daddy will inflict an endless torture worse than death to anyone that hurts my baby."

"Daddy! It followed me home, can I keep it?"

"Young lady, you have no idea where that things been!"

Sorry, what character would that be? I'm don't know who that girl is in your image, but it sure as hell isn't Winnie

Nigger you dont know shit on what youre talking about, take a seat.

They may have meant to refer to >>838624

nope they directly quoted the user. its just a triggerednigger >muh lolis

She doesn't have to be a loli.

Indeed, Short =/= Loli

And even then, I'd generally like to see her a little taller than she's usually portrayed.

Of course they dont have to be lolis but that doesnt stop triggerniggers from coming back to the thread over and over and shitting on the idea because it's aged up.

Why wasnt any of the more energetic designs like Herny and Brokenlynx chosen for the pitch?

I don't think Toonspew ever approached Lynx about the project. Pretty sure he did with Herny though, and I'll be honest, between him, DLToon, and Mr. D, I think Herny did the best job. Though there is still the issue of characters like Winnie and Elsa (Especially Elsa) not having much resemblance to the film characters.

Now the next issue here is if the pitch does get greenlight, should the artist(s) get royalties for the designs?

They were commissioned, so I guess they already got paid.

Herny and Lynx are not that different from eachother, but id take them over DLToon by far. Which ones are Mr. D? Trying to search for him just ends up in irrelevant artists on twitter that arent even doing art for cartoons.

I dont see Winnie being a big departure, if I can tell its the same character then that's good enough. Frankly Winnie looks like one of the more staying true to her character than others.

commission payment doesnt count when a full fledged studio wants to use the designs. it wasnt the studio that freelanced them.

Mr. D is this artstyle

As mentioned before, it doesn't seem very animation friendly.

Mr. D is the guy who draws that Camp Sherwood comic. You can find his GS designs here:
jabarchives.com/main/view/misterd_Commissions

huh yeah not a fan of him, looks like either barely tried to change it and played it safe with the main cast or overly designed with the support

quick question, is this mister D guy jester blargsnarf toonbutt or am i thinking of someone else?

Maybe not, but compared to Herny's art of Sibella, Phatny, and Tanis, it's a pretty noticeable departure.

They're all different artists, but some of them do have pages at Jab.

so maybe something closer to home like in this?

Because DLT is only good at drawing hartmanshit, which itself is an inherently bad artstyle.

Yeah, but good luck convincing them to go with that.

not really much of a change from the rest of the redesigns. more poofy round hair instead of poofy sharp hair and ditching the ponytail that people got obsessed over. im perfectly fine with the ponytail but is probably pushed too far with flanderization. maybe its just the face, looks flat as a piece of paper.

I think a lot of people push the flannel getup and ponytail because it's become popular to portray her as a tomboy.

I honestly didn't get much of a tomboy vibe from her in the film. If anything, she seemed more like a puppy personality wise. She was loud, active, and a little bossy. Kinda reminds me of my own dog.

An aged up version of her I could imagine being more beast-like, or maybe even a bit of a party animal pun intended but not a straightforward tomboy.

Elsa seemed more like a potential tomboy in the film, but people prefer to portray her as a German mad-scientist because reasons.

says the faggot that is okay with aging up sweet lolis
oh the irony

Again I don't get it. If you want fapbait, Blogs can do the role 100 times better then a made for TV animated series.

...

Have some freshly made Ghoul School smut

you must be an under aged faggot, cartoon IPs have always had a history of mixing it up. if you want stagnant lolis go watch some weeb shit.
>>>/a/

I can understand to some extent the appeal for anthropomorphic animal characters
But what is it about monsters? Ghosts, undead, zombies, mummies and things? Like not just aimed at these, but in general. What is the reasoning? It intrigues me.

Strange and exotic appeal I suppose.

...

What better way to conquer a monster than making it carry your child? Also

Also a crippling lack of self-reflection and a fear of new things

There's a difference between trying new things and getting it on for undeath and the paranormal, which is often explicitly perilous to human life. I feel there's something deeper about it i guess, a deeper explanation.

Humans have always been attracted to things that were dangerous. MGs are just an extension of this.

What did he mean by this?

Why does she have horse genitalia?

That the reason things like these tend to never go anywhere except low-level fap bait is because people fear re-assessing their lives and moving onto new things.

Why make monster stories with plots and shit when I can just fap! And then I can tell myself that Im the normal one and its everybody else thats just repressing themselves.

Why are you even here

...

Because I like Comics and Because I like cartoons. I thought the original Ghoul school was neat and if updated with some more modern speed, gag, maybe some better action, etcetera would be a really neat show.

Half the board is people rightly complaining about the weird, slow, dull, crap that's coming out. But if that the only people that are gonna make cartoons then that's what its gonna be.

Where's that from?

For which one? The Sibella or Gruftine commission?

A stream.

I think you have a point, but Flanderization of a character based on the visual design? That's just a silly notion. Unless you take rather extreme steps to purposefully misrepresent the character, like taking Doug Funny and dressing him as a hardcore goth, then changes to designs aren't a problem.

And we're all going to have to get used to this anyways. Because I can guarantee you that if this ever got picked up as a show the studio would never allow them to use the Hanna-Barbera like style of the originals. We're looking at maybe two very faithful redesigns and I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's going to be Phantasma and Sibella if anyone.

I think flannel and ponytail kind of portray a 'i don't give a fuck' attitude about appearance that I think would work with the character.

You are right, she was a lot like an energetic puppy in the film, and aged up I like the idea of her being a bit more feral. Kind of like how it's cute when a puppy tries to bite your hand while playing being a lot less cute when it could do real damage.

Actually that would make for an interesting character dynamic. Winnie has always gotten her way by being bombastic and assertive. When she grows up and is even stronger and smarter it might actually make her wonder why she has to put up with rules that really seem to do nothing more than get in her way.

Huh, just thought of those shitty episodes with characters like this where they get hamfistedly slapped around when they try to 'go it on their own' and have to come snivling back. Nah, have Winnie go out to survive on her own and have her Calloway counterpart tag along for fun. Have Winnie actually succeed in living on her own and facing the world head on, but also have her Calloway partner do just as well if not better. Have Winnie figure out rules and society when she figures out they can share her meat and his herbs to make a better meal.

That's just kind of a practical example of what I would like to see from her personality wise. You rarely get an assertive character that isn't a total bitch or has any thought put into why they're assertive or why they would function with the cast at all. Aside from, like, Helga. Sure the free-spirit attitude might overlap a little with Phanty, but unlike her Winnie actually has to interact with the world.

Um… Why? That doesn't make much sense.

I disagree. The film design seems more "I don't give a fuck" considering that she's barely dressed at all. There's even an odd shot that shows she isn't wearing any kind of underwear.

Giving her pants, a shirt, a flannel shirt over said shirt, a ponytail, and even shoes suggest that she cared enough to get properly dressed. Also, as said in I can't imagine someone covered in fur would want to wear that much. Just enough to cover her naughty bits.

its a picarto.tv stream, popular choice for artists especially lewd ones.

Remember that this is the entertainment industry. When pitching Hellboy they would suggest things like 'can he have a hell-dog?' and 'can he drive around in a hell-mobile?'

I'm just stating the fact that they would consider the Hanna-Barbera style 'to old' rather than 'classic' and some asshole would insist that it has to 'distance' itself from the previous movie.

Because, as always, why would anything good ever happen?

That's true. It does look like she just threw on a random dress and called it a day. Personally I would love the idea of giving characters three or four outfits. Maybe even have school uniforms as well.

And It would be fun if Winnie would use the wookie rule to just pull that Zootopia nudist joke occasionally.

"Winnie! Put some clothes on!"
"No! I spend two hours a night grooming my fur and SOMEONE is going to see my work!"

But they haven't done that though. WB recently came out with a fucking Jetsons WWE crossover, and everyone kept their classic designs. They didn't turn George into a space marine and give Jane three tits.

Fuck, Scooby and the gang have dressed like their classic selves for quite some time now. Even the Flintstones are still recognizable!

Point is, I don't see why they would feel embarrassed by the old designs. If anything, Winnie's old design seems like it would be easier to animated than the redesign.

if you mean the clothes, there's less different layers to animate but a dress isnt easier to animate than a shirt by any means, if you want to do a good job.
I will say that looking at the old designs more closely it just looks like she threw on a rag and a torn bow ribbon does say something about her personality that just jumping into clean fashion plaid doesnt really give off the same vibe. not a hard fix, just make what she wears have more wear and tear

Maybe you're right, but the old outfit certainly has less detail by comparison.

Haven't seen those but that sounds interesting. For the record I liked Scooby-Doo on zombie island just because it more or less gave those old designs some actual animation budget and they worked great.

It's just, I really like flannel and red hair. I didn't know it was a thing with me but apparently it is. If she does end up in a dress could we at least experiment with some different colors? I'm not a fan of that kinda purple color.

yeah but mainly the detail just comes from the plaid flanel shirt. if it were just a solid color then it wouldnt really be much different in terms of complexity. is just as simple as the original design, and would be even easier to animate.
Where did the whole "sporty and cleaner" look for Winnie start up anyways? It's an important part of the character design to remember that shes a werewolf so rips and tears help sell that shes not just a normal furry wolf.

Hey man, if that's your thing I won't judge. I'd just prefer Winnie had a more familiar design. Even with Zombie Island's redesigns of some of the characters, there still seemed to be familiarity to them.

Purple? It's blue.
Sibella is the one in purple.

Toonspew as far as I can tell. Same thing with mad-scientist Elsa.

from a purely design standpoint, the plaid is nice because it helps frame the face with redish hair and redish shirt. I just dont really see where the lumberjack aspect comes from in terms of established personality from the movie

Some people don't seem to think they had any personality at all in the film. I'm willing to argue that they did, they just weren't that developed.

Sibella was polite and possibly the kindest of the group.
Winnie as said before is like a puppy or at least animal-like.
Elsa was the tough but friendly muscle of the group.
Phantasma was a giddy little goofball.
And Tanis was the innocent baby of the group.

There's not much past that, but they still had something. When bringing the ghouls back, I feel it would be better to build onto what they already had rather then scrapping it and making your own characters.

I guess its because werewolves are typically seen as outdoorsmen, always somewhere in the forest. If you are a werewolf and you need a career, might as well go with something you are somewhat familiar with.

Both

Holy shit, my brain just entirely fucked up on me. It's that stupid white and gold dress all over again.

Lumberjacks are traditionally seen as independent and active individuals. Individuals who sleep all night and work all day. They cut down trees, they eat their lunch, and go to the lavatory. On wensdays they go shopping and have buttered scones for tea.

Well shit, that sucks. I was looking forward to them.

Don't wolves function in packs?

Also, I doubt Winnie would ever wear high heels, Suspenders and a bra.

Hey now, I have discovered a new artist, just waiting for him to get back to me

actually it looks like the rips and tears of Winnies dress is less of a character que and more a unifying design to the ghouls. The house is a shithole of disrepair and neglect and their wardrobe is just part of living in the school.

So who ever did these sort of clean redesigns didnt understand shit about world building, and just went onto making design changes in isolation. Shaggy and Scooby were the only clean and normal dressed ones, this helps the viewer visually connect that they're a fish out of water.

...

Yeah, the whole point of the ghouls is that they're supposed to come of as fucked up. It's a sort of Addams Family setup in that a good portion of the humor comes from how more normal characters react to their lifestyle.

Well, as long as she's a lumberjack and she's ok.

I actually wouldn't mind if they cleaned up the school and instead went with a more victorian architecture. At least visually.

Sadly the visual style would be lost, but with uniformity in the basic setting it can help individuals stand out more obviously based on what they do with it. Then again I was kind of a sucker when they did it in My Hero Academia.

I now want crossover art of the girls from MHA and GS. And when you consider the Invisible Man, Aliens, and the creature from the black lagoon you could probably have fun with Tooru, Mina and Tsuyu

>>>/a/

...

Nice. Who is the artist?

I know, but it's the best example I could think of to showcase what I meant. Uniform room, different expressions of character.

the movie didnt exactly try to hide their influence, especially with that disembodied hand going around. looks like the redesigners missed the memo.

making winnie a lumberjack for the sake of it is superficial detail and shit.

But wouldn't making things more uniform not mesh well with the fact that they're monsters?

Monsters are generally considered unnatural.

Yeah the hand was too blatant. The octopus butler was creative though.

Well I suppose it would come down to how you want to juxtopose things. Things like the Addams Family and Ghoul School give this somewhat fucked up visual style and strangeness that highlights the more 'normal' aspects of the characters. Being a jolly person even among bizarre and morbid surroundings makes it stand out far better. Conversely if you have a more normal or even civilized setting then the things that don't really mesh with it stand out better.

And either way would work. I would just prefer one, that isn't to say keeping their school kind of morbid and disheveled wouldn't work just as well if not better.

I'd say this at least. I think it would be best to design Calloway and Grimwood opposite ends of that spectrum. So if Grimwood is old, muted Victorian beauty, then Calloway needs to be modern, stark and sanitized. If Grimwood is kind of decaying macabre, then Calloway should be warm and new.

I think as you use those two opposites you can show both sides of the characters extremely well.

I don't know why, but I immediately thought of a Mimic butler. Just a treasure chest that opens itself up to get anything that's needed and eats anything they want to get rid of.

trips confirm, but if they dont get it and think theres no personality then you have to give them examples and shove it in their face.

Toonspews Winnie seems to be lashing out over her sudden and uncontrollable transformation into a werewolf. Perhaps she could be angry and anti social, instead of a tomboy?

I'd say the Cadets better fit how most people view the ghouls personality wise. Those fucks were barely anything.

Tug was the lead douche.
Miguel was the brainy douche.
Grunt was the large douche.
Jamal was the I guess athletic douche.
And Baxter was the baby douche.

Not that I'm saying these character should necessarily be cut out all together. I think having human foils to the ghouls may work if done right.

But they certainly would require A LOT more work to make them even slightly interesting.

Yeah, he's suggested that his version doesn't want to be a werewolf.

Personally, I strongly disagree with this idea all together. It sounds very unnecessary.

It's been a while, but IIRC the Elsa story was the one I was following the most closely. She's not an easy character to write for, and while it was of course a different interpretation of her from my own it was still and engaging personality to read about. If you have your stories saved to a pastebin or something I'd love to read them again, and write you a proper review. If you'd be so kind, please send an email to [email protected]/* */ and we can continue this conversation through other channels.

The boomerang app could be a decent platform for a show like this that does have it's roots in nostalgia, thanks for the suggestion. Ultimately those decisions would be out of our hands anyway, but it is good to suggest as an option in the pitch materials, displaying the flexibility of the show to appeal to either horror-fans (on Adult Swim) or nostalgia (on Boomerang), giving the execs the option to fit it into their lineups as they see fit.

Herny's concept of Tanis is hilarious for a newspaper comic strip but it's not conductive to support full episode plots, so no. What I meant by "adult direction" was referring more to the complexity of plots and not shying away from the genuine horror-genre elements that I see as fundamental to the appeal of monsters. The intense watering-down of monsters leaves us with bland mush like Twilight and Monster High, and that's the opposite of what I want to see from Ghoul School.

Not really. While I've got nothing against fapbait and rail against pozzed shit like Steven universe, it's almost as bad to have "cute girls in wolf ears" and call that a werewolf-girl. Clawdeen Wolf from monster high does not qualify as a werewolf to me, or even a monster at all really, she's just a shallow brown girl with ears poking out of her hairline. I also didn't want to have a bland male protagonist for all the girls to fawn over, preferring a cast of male characters who have distinct personalities and faults over a shameless self-insert vessel.

This is pretty close to what I'm building. Sibella is the only one designed with sex appeal in mind. Elsa is prettier than the original movie but that's only because the original movie Elsa had a face like a peeled potato. Mr. D's Elsa redesign is just a tall, stocky girl with weird hair and green skin/stitches. The other three are updated mostly in their clothing and aged-up, but could only be seen as "sexy" if you're down with lolis. Winnie's sporting the red flannel and ponytail, true, but it's not so much "sexy lumberjack" as it is a reflection of her finding proper grooming and fashion to be too much effort to bother with. Her bushy orange curls are too unruly to brush so she just ties it back into a ponytail and calls it a day, and the cutoff shorts and loose flannel are the sort of clothes you can wrinkle and go for a run in and they won't look any worse, 'cause they already look a bit shit to begin with.

The redesigned Revolta (when she's got her human disguise on) is meant to look purposely "uncanny valley", like it was someone's idea of what an attractive woman should look like, but they didn't quite get it right.

Pixar's "Monsters University" is another example of what I meant by "adult" in the above post. One of the hard rules for the pitch is that there's no "nonsense monsters" allowed. The sort of random designs you see in a show like "Ahh! Real Monsters!", which don't have a folklore or even a name, they're just collectively "monsters" and you aren't supposed to think about it any harder than that. You can't expect a viewer to take worldbuilding of vampires and werewolves seriously when they exist in a universe with Jim Henson doodles.

see now its choices like that, that are a completely different character not some tears over being aged up. This is a complete personality flip, when she embraced being animalistic in the movie. Toonspews version of GhoulSchools sounds like shit tbh.

It's a glorified fan fiction, what else did you expect?

i expected core personalities of characters to be kept in mind, what other shitty decisions has he made for the other characters? Elsa being a mad scientist is less of a stretch than Winnie hating herself.

I'll gather up the stories I have then, and I would definitely like to continue this discussion. I do honestly recommend looking through all the discussion/criticism going on in this thread before that though.

It has to be a complete revamp you mong, if TS made GS today as it was in the 80's, it would still be utter shit.

Lets make no mistake here. No one likes the orginal GS for its compelling story or stellar character development. They like it for the cute girls and the interesting but hardly explored premise of a finishing school for monsters.

And Scrappy. Scrappy's rap at the end was fucking cash and don't you forget it bitch.

A lot of the Scooby-Doo revamps weren't THAT different from the source material, and a good amount of them still worked.

Actually if I recall correctly, the reason why Winnie is a werewolf in the TSverse is because its a trait that's passed down in the family a la Teen Wolf style (skips a generation). What if she was told at a young age that there is a chance she might turn and mentally prepare for such an outcome?

So when she transforms, she's still taken aback but she doesn't hate it. Hence she embraces her werewolf side almost too enthusiastically.

How about taking regular humans and giving them borderline paranormal powers?

there are remakes that breathe new life into an source from people who care about attention to detail and then are "remakes" that have no respect for the old source, shit on them and don't even know what made the originals, learn the difference you mong. Toonspew sounds like the latter, the kind of soulless hackjob outsider that ended up with the direction of the really shitty new PPG on CN.

Might be an interesting dynamic for exploring 'monster' part of the whole dynamic. There could be a real bit of opportunity for a werewolf girl that is inexperienced and has no idea what will 'set her off' and have her doing certain things.

If the concept of the change is that after she figures things out she ends up as Winnie as we saw in the movie personality wise I think it could work. Though personally I think it would be much more interesting to underplay the girls that were created or born monsters and ones who were turned into them.

Having her change at the onset of becoming a teenager would be interesting, particularly with trying to compartmentalize what she things of it. Especially if there's any attention paid to her hanging around her Wolfman father as a human kid. Maybe have her jump to 'this is awesome' as a way of not having to deal with thinking about if she actually likes it or not.

Characters are often just shown being 'wrong' for doing something like that. It would be interesting to see a character avoid confronting something but not being self destructive about it. Teens question their self identity constantly Just look at how much the trendsgender bullshit took off and a bit of trepidation on the subject could work wonders for character development.

I don't think it's that far of a stretch to assume that the school that deals directly with a monster school would have experts in the paranormal.

Besides, Reanimator Jr. and Winnie could have a hilarious Dexter and DeeDee situation going, just with monsters.

In fact reversing the situation so that Winnie keeps ordering him not to preform any experiments unless she's around to beat down the mess would be priceless.

Those are both the same thing. New life to some is heresy to others. Quality and Execution are the most important things in a remake.

If you can have one of the characters, preferably Tanis, say pozzed ironically on the show, I will personally fellate you.

Unironically I meant to say.

Youre a retard. as if we need another example of a shitty remake in CY+2, because the the entertainment industry isnt full of those enough already. One takes actual time to study and analyze, distilling what is it that makes it "Ghoul School" and not just Scooby Doo the other is just making shit up without even attempting for a cohesive idea, which is what Toonspew is doing.

It took me five fucking minutes to look at the movie and see charaacter traits that would stick, is this faggot Toonspew even a fan of the original in any way or is he really just a total outsider jew looking to peddle his fanfics on some forgotten characters.

It only took you five minutes to look at the movie and distill out the character traits that make Ghoul School characters authentic?

You see, I thought what made Ghoul School interesting was the premise. The idea of having a Boarding School for monsters that interacted ever so briefly with the real world through use of Shaggy and Scooby as fish out of water characters and the Calloway kids.

So I think that creating a series based on it would do best if it were to take that basic premise and expand upon it into a full show. Perhaps switching the fish out of water aspect of it to the girls instead and explore concepts of what a monster is, or even simply dealing with inborn characteristics in a civilized society.

But I dunno, maybe your five minuites of expertise is a better authority on the subject.

Why not give a rundown of how you would do it? Or, more constructively, explain what parts of the thing you're critiquing don't work rather than just shitting on it. Because even if you're 100% correct, that's just like a mechanic saying a car is broken. It's completely unhelpful to all parties involved.

Not them, but there has been plenty of discussion about it throughout the thread.

The characters' traits were touched upon here for example.

DUDE

The original ghoul school is a fucking awful movie, whatever personality the girls had were ruined by an overuse of "fangtastic" "I can swim a nile and a half" and Winnie howling in every sentence.

As far as I'm concerned, the Anons and drawfags have massively developed the characters into something worth being interested in.

I don't recall anyone here saying it was good. I personally found it fun in a stupid way.

Does tone mean anything to you faggot? excessive hoooooooooowling and puns are a result of the demographic, it doesnt excuse a complete overwrite of core personality traits and calling it "the same character".

Toonspew has effectively created brand new characters for this GS reboot/rebranding and y'know what? Fine, I'm down with that. I think the direction its going in could be memorable, interesting and entertaining.

Though if by some miracle this does get greenlit, I bet ten bucks it wont get past the pilot.

OP here, holy shit things got hostile here. I was kinda hoping TS would show up so I could ask him how Tanis would react to Keks return but I think you scared him off.

Oh well have a manish Sibella.

With the way the original movie was presented, it felt as though it was more of a pilot for a new HB show to go with all the retro new ideas HB studios were trying to go with in the 80s and 90s. Even the Boo Brothers movie had a similar feel to it. These strange but very developed characters with their own gimmicks and lore are suddenly thrown into the Scooby Doo setting for no complex reason that somehow differs from their usual monster movies and specials? It definitely feels like Ghoul School and Boo Brothers were going to be spinoffs. And if so, did the movies do so poorly as to not warrant it? Ghoul School had a pretty huge cast with their own unique villains and those Calloway kids to boot.

Huh, never thought of that but your right. You could get away with it pretty easily if she often praises the Egyptian gods or makes references to them.

I must have it.

I never though I'd see the day where a channel for adults does cartoons better and less {current year} than channels for kids.

Weren't there more cadets? A mexican or something and a fat kid?

AWAKEN MY MASTERS

...

yes characters with puns are irredeemable and must be written from scratch
oh wait…

Just wait till she starts saying "Praise Isis!" and then people start complaining.

No great loss there.

Don't taint this pure cartoon with dank memes plz.

That last shot of Shag and Scoob laughing really makes that pic.

I actually really like that breakdown because it really does get down to the core personality of the character and it's something that cant really be argued.

Like Phantasma being the flippant goofball of the group. It doesn't matter of how exactly she's a goofball, or if you add in other details to her personality, as long as you center it around that basic personality.

Heck, if this were to ever get a show I think one of the first things you'd have people request would be an episode that went into Phantasma before she died. I'm not sure how that would really work though. Maybe phantoms have a 'deathday' celebration like people have birthdays? And on that day she acts suspiciously normal.

I mean, look at Brooke from One Piece. He's a complete goofball and a pervert. Some of that is informed by the fact he watched all his friends die a slow agonizing death and wasn't allowed to pass on with them, and him trying to look on the bright side of life.

Miguel was the inventor for the Calloway cadets, so they switched him with Reanimator. They got rid of the big oaf character and instead made the latent psychic Phantasmas foil.

Which honestly I prefer. That setup seems more appropriate for the environment than the burger king kids club.

...

On a scale of one to ten?

Mainly in the series premise, but there is an episode planned where the girls are writing about their family trees for a school assignment, basically as a framing device to dump backstories and worldbuilding about their individual heritages.
But more broadly speaking the reboot is set in a world where vampires, werewolves, ghosts ect are all effectively endangered species owing both to the efforts of monster hunters and humanity's technological advancement.. There aren't as many spooky castles and gas-lit mansions left around to haunt anymore. In their desperation the handful remaining have pooled their resources to fund the Grimwood school. It is their hope that the girls of the younger generation can be trained how to behave in human society and present themselves well enough that they can secure their continued existence rather than being exterminated completely. This gets us a show where there is a good reason for the girls to want to be liked and accepted by humanity, rather than just isolating themselves in their tombs or staging guerilla warfare.

Dracula is still a presence, as is Frankenstein (the monster) and Bride, Tanis' parents are (non magical) mummies but she has a long-distance relationship with them, since she can also visit the Egyptian underworld on occasion. Phantasma is an orphan, and Winnie's werewolf father was swapped to a werewolf grandpa instead.

My idea for Dracula's large family is partly a joke on the multitude of "Son of…", "Daughter of…" and other Dracula spin-off movies that have appeared since Lugosi played the role. From there the other pieces of the puzzle that I wanted started to fall into place: With the rest of Dracula's "kids" being adult humans turned vampire the old fashioned way, he doesn't have an experience with an adolescent daughter with the normal emotional needs of a teenager like Sibella. Since Dracula sleeps during the day when Sibella is up she has limited time in which to interact with him, leaving her feeling neglected and with something to prove. So when the boarding school idea is presented, Sibella is able to make a convincing case that Dracula's daughter who is the worst at being a vampire would therefor be the best at being a human, and she gets the opportunity to become the public face of vampirekind at Grimwood's school.

In Herny's case it came down to availability and interest. He was more interested in drawing sketch-quality cheesecake art, which is great but not the polished product I would want to actually include in a presentation. Lynx I never had a chance to discuss it with but his art is really heavy on the sex appeal. Which is great, but again not something I would feel confident about taking to WB.

I'm still here, but the hostility does make the thread only barely worth paying attention to. There's no direction that the project can take that will please everyone, so there's really no point in getting upset about it.

To answer your question though, Tanis has a personal relationship with the Egyptian pantheon and a few of them could make an appearance in episodes if it was funny to do so. If we needed a joke about Tanis celebrating a weird foreign holiday it would be a fine excuse to have her shout "Praise Kek!' in the middle of a scene.

I won't deny that. The only way they could be anymore like BKKC is if one of them was in a fucking wheelchair. They were the shoehorned/virtue signaling minority insert of their time. Although considering what we got as their successor, I'd settle for wheelchairs.

Also, is it wrong that I think Roper's attire or equipment should have more odes to Van Helsing? Or is he at least related to him?

I'd figure considering the nature of being an 'escort' that he's mostly there to keep an eye on her with only a few things for self defense. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a few crosses and garlic hidden on his person. Though I could easily imagine showing a room with old school regalia from the time.

Or if you wanted to get really dark you could have another vampire go feral and pose a risk to people and have them assign him to take it down. Bonus points if Sibella follows him around during this and gets a really close look at just how humans were able to beat monsters, and also just how bad some Vampires can get if the feral design is straight up Nosferatu and evil as shit.

Tripfag is from tumblr, makes sense.

I'm going to pretend for a moment that this shit will actually exist… Just use Ra or Anubis or something. Don't start putting in dank Holla Forums memes based on lesser know egyptian culture that will fade back into obscurity in 1 or 2 years, otherwise you'll end up with an obnoxious fanbase that demands even more political memes. Also, AS or CN would cancel you faster than they did Sam Hyde if they figured you out.

Why not just make her the kid of the ghost of the Phantom of the Opera? Her love of organ music would suit it.

Now this I can get behind.

I figured as much. This level of autism and "quality writing" does match the natives of there.

This thread really is some advanced shitposting

I dunno, if you did do a few Praise Ra or Praise Anubis in appropriate places then you could probably have her shout Praise Kek if she were dealing with a computer and it suddenly started working or simmilar situation.

Or, since she goes to the Egyptian underworld, you could actually just show Kek as a fat frog on the computer all day.

Just have him as a blink and you miss it cameo and leave it at that. You don't want that kind of autism seeping into your show.

Or we could just not have internet memes in the show.

That's an option, unless you want this to end up like nuPPG.

Agreed
popculture ref is cancer in shows but memes in shows are GRIDS.

Point made and conceded.

Great media makes memes, it doesn't reference them.

Reddit and meme has lots of memes and it's utter shit.

Perhaps I should clarify, Great media makes memes. Perhaps in the same way a car may make exhaust to go forward.

A byproduct, if you will, rather than an overt attempt to propagate the dank.

Sounds like a hack writer came up with it who doesnt know the first thing about juxtaposition. The cadets were technologically knowledable not paranormal. They served as complete outsiders to the GS even more than Shaggy and Scoob.
Cadets outside of the Ghoul School having paranormal powers is retarded and counter intuitive, making everyone special IE paranormal means no one is special and diminishes the mystery about the GS, this is basic shit.

memes come from media not trying to make memes. every instance they try to force it, its utter shite

Now you're getting it.

No, having the boys act as an in-between for the paranormal world and the real world not only serves to help stagger the difference between the purely paranormal and the real, they also provide an immediate observable goal for the audience. The girls want to be able to integrate into society despite being paranormal, the boys integrate in society despite dealing with the paranormal. They simply came from the opposite side of the gap.

This lays out a mental path for both the audience and the characters. The monsters are on one side, the real world is on the other, and the space between them is pretty much where the boys are.

It's just as valid an idea as making it a hard separation between the two. Which would also work, having the Calloway cadets be more like the ghostbusters would work. Especially in a setting where the underlying tone is that technology is quickly rendering monsters obsolete. It would be hilarious if Phantasma hated going to their camp because they have anti-ghost barriers installed so she has to actually use doors.

Could you please at least extend a little bit of reflection on your opinions before you just shit on things? It's annoying, not constructive, and makes you look foolish.

on the topic of ruining character traits, is phanty still involved in music in the Toonspew version?

If she is, then all the more reason to relate her to the Phantom of the Opera.

they were clearly alluding to it in the movie. but I havent seen phanty doing anything that isnt just looney, and in the fanart she seems more involved in sports. but her music was a key part of the character, it was the only time she was actually really serious and focused.

Ah yes, Duet for Three hands and Six Tentacles.

C'mon guys, I think we all know who her real father is.

Hey, better than her actual flasher dad.

its just a meme.

That don't work no more, boi ;_;

Where the lewd art board now?

this cartoon has already been tainted with waifufaggotry

you are an incredible idiot, that's why

cartoon have a history of shitty spin-offs, yeah

Ah, that explains why the proceeded to change these cute girls as if the originals weren't good enough

yet you posted an accurate drawing of the original Winnie that looks pretty damn good

way to conflict with your own post, idiot

screw toonspew and his trying to make his autistic fan fiction overhaul of a classic cartoon a reality.
this is fucking atrocious

The originals weren't good enough. If they were, there would be no reason for an effort to retry this lost franchise.

The roof of the Sistine Chapel is just crappy god fanart that took to long to make.

Until you actually put your own opinion of the matter on the line and suggest an alternative that can be compared, his autistic shitty vision trumps yours.

If you really don't like how he's redoing this, give an alternative. Otherwise you really have no leg to stand on with this autistic screeching.

So is Toonspew planning to do this as a cartoon or a comic?

Shows already a dank meme m8

Like a longer trench coat, wide brimmed hat and a whole church worth of crosses? Honestly I think the allusion to Van Helsing is kept to "Vampire hunter" is for the best.

Pretty sure he just forgot the apostrophe there. And Kek is a chaos god well god of darkness and twilight, just associated with the chaos of darkness so he could probably make clones of himself

Fuck if I know, I've only heard of Toonspew today.

the originals were victims of cheesy as fuck writing. its got little to do with how well the characters could do with a better writer.
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/ScoobyDooAndTheGhoulSchool

Writers that aren't allowed to expand or alter a character in any way? A few points about the characters personalities have already been established, but so far none of them have really been deviated from at all.

What parts of the characters should be preserved and which should be attributed to 'cheesy as fuck writing' for a remake? The link doesn't provide much help to the situation.

I would not call Glenn Leopold a bad writer, considering he went on to write for Swat Kats, and wrote Zombie Island.

I'd be willing to say his writing for Ghoul School was more based on the standards at the time.

thats fair.

have you even read any of the critisism? theres been plenty of deviation people dont like from the ghoul girls to the fathers and the cadets. Speaking of, where did this retarded idea come from that they are in the Ghoul School to integrate into society? the entire school was always monsters inc before that movie existed. This whole integrating into society shit is where the waifu trash springs up, they were in the school to become better monsters like their fathers.

The whole GS integration into society thing is Toonspews idea. If I recall correctly the girls in the original movie were doing shit like ballet, swimming, sports, gardening, etc.

Revolta said their fathers got soft, maybe that spread to their daughters.

the only reason here is autistic waifufaggotry

it's shit, cliche and bland as hell
toonspew should literally kill himself so we can stop hearing his garbage ideas

I love how these threads always start pretty promising at least for discussion and dumps of images, but then Toonspew shows up and kills the thread with his autism. Every single damn time.

I'm able to suspend my disbelief that this can actually happen always up until the point I read his posts and realize that he would probably run anything he touches into the ground.

...

...

I see you took your trip off.

Wanna know how I know you're not from here?

Jeez I thought everyone was A+ for this project. What the hell happened?

people who can apparently see into the future supposedly knew that it would turn out shit.

Toonspew demonstrated that he has shitty ideas and would take things in a shit direction.

He's essentially the YanDev of Holla Forums.

The one thing 4chan has over Holla Forums is a higher number of drawfags and writers. They are the lifeblood for threads like these.

How about you forget about this bitching and look at this cute Winnie?

Fuck off, all these threads do is attract that tripfag to shill his autistic fanfiction.

Young man, you still have a lot to learn.

The first thing everybody should know is most serious imageboard projects, outside /tg/ projects (which are pretty small to begin with), are doomed to fail. It's happened in the past, it's happening right now, and probably it will keep happening in the future. Only really succesful imageboard project that pops to mind right now is Katawa Shoujo, and all other projects related to imageboards usually were either kind of "first seen here!" or eventually detached themselves from imageboards completely.

You may be thinking, why is that? Well, you can see exactly why in this thread. Projects start nicely, some guy comes here and pitches an idea, everybody works together for a while with the brainstorming, and the hype goes off the charts. Everything looks bright, people start working on the project, and then, if they get past the logo design stage, they usually come back to the board that started it all and post progress. And then everything goes to shit.

Maybe Nietzsche was right after all. We are all losers, slaves around here, and whenever one of us tries to get out of our own filth and start working for something that may be succesful, The Hivemind tries to drag him back down through loud shitposting and sometimes even sameposting spam. Holla Forums keeps arguing, and I am not talking just about Yandev the Fiasco, that "maybe if a little bit of shittalking (which makes around 50% of the thread) made him drop the project, then he probably was a faggot all the time and would have made a shit project anyway". Well, maybe that's true, but when more than half of what you thought to be a representative of your main target demographic starts shitting on your project, you start to think that it probably wouldn't be worth it to continue, as the chances of success seem really small (because, like it or not, most people aren't masochistic and would like to receive positive feedback on their projects). Maybe the shitposters are goons? Maybe they are the "true channers" and everybody else is a dicksucking reddittor? I don't know, but this shit always happens.

The moral of the story is, never rely on Holla Forums for project feedback. The sooner you disconnect it from here, the higher your chances of success.

Why are you here and not on Reddit?

This is hardly a imageboard project. This is basically one guy writing up a lore bible, commissioning artists and creating an attractive pitch to networks. We're just here for art and comment on progress.

Sad but true.

He was a moron, a hypocrite, a Jew and a thin-skinned faggot who couldn't take the least bit of criticism. He also kept wasting time with memes and adding more and more half-baked features instead of using his time to establish and refine core gameplay. Using him as an example does not help your case in the slightest.

Hell, even mark defended yandev, up until he went full trumbrl, its hard to separate shitposting and criticism, but if someone wants more "positive feedback", they should go to tumbrl or reddit, this is h8chan after all.
Other example is the monstergirl island dev from /monster/, turning his lewd game into monsterboy island, because fuck you, I lied.

Holla Forums tried really hard to keep Yandev around, so it wasn't like they really pushed him away up until he went full cuck. He did exactly what he said he wasn't going to do, listened to a tiny vocal minority and censored some cheesecake which is one of the major selling points of the fucking game to appease a tiny vocal minority on Reddit/Tumblr who were skeeved out by the idea of looking at a girl's panties while managing your inventory.

The game's going to go to shit now that Holla Forums isn't there to reign in his more retarded ideas. Mark my words. The biggest example I can think of is him deciding to change the game from it's core as a social stealth game ala Hitman into an action brawler with cuhrayzee combat ala Yakuza.

He also played MGS:V for a bit and then decided he wanted to create an open world, which would have fucked over the design immensely.

The guy's a moron, he was thin skinned faggot who couldn't handle some basic bitch level shitposting and ran off to Reddit where they lick his asshole clean and ask for more.

But Toonspew and Ghoul School isn't even really on the same level. It's pretty much just been his idea from the get go, with anons posting lewds and giving their 2 cents. Toonspew isn't really beholden to the imageboard as a whole because he's always been doing his own thing, we're mostly just along for the ride.

Then again, anybody who wants to start a project for the sole purpose of appeasing an imageboard is doing it for the wrong reason.

I've yet to see a single idea this nigger known as Toonspew come up with a single good idea, none of his concepts are even close to funny it's just shitty waifu bait and drama. Did this faggot forget the pitch is for a cartoon?

Same thing that always happens.

When the project starts the ideas being thrown around are open. Different ways characters should be written, design concepts, and the like. You see at that point people are actually putting forward ideas and they stand and fall by their own merit.

Then as an actual idea finally takes form, someone is invariably either butthurt that their exact interpretation of things is the one being made, or someone is just a contrarian little shit that wants to inject their personal problems onto something else.

You can tell this by the fact that all the 'detraction' isn't carefully thought out criticisms about aspects of the project with potential alternatives, but instead broad and sweeping points that are brought up and discarded as quickly as possible when someone points out they're completely wrong.

In just this thread we had to deal with them saying that the Girls weren't faithful to their origonal interpretation. Which someone responded by posting a breakdown of their core character personalities and surprise, that wasn't the case. Then someone was complaining about how this project wasn't holding up to the original movie. To which people pointed out that the original movie was a weird mess strangled to death by puns and had failed to obscurity aside from a tiny bit of respect to the premise from obscure cartoon dedicated image boards. Then it was how shitty it was for Calloway to have paranormal experts. To which the response was made that a school that would be dealing with something paranormal would probably focus on the paranormal.

Just above the charge was brought up that the whole 'fitting into human society' was just something brought up by this Toonspew guy. Which is right, but it's a twist on the fish out of water story from the movie that gives way more interesting possibilities and works better for a series than a one off.

Early in the thread there was some discussion, I wouldn't even call it an argument, about Winnie and how she was portrayed. There people actually posted their opinions. Someone didn't like that the ponytail and flannel made her look like a tomboy. That conversation actually went somewhere, talking about how the colors helped frame the character, the idea of 'easy to use' and 'outdoorsman' and more or less reached the conclusion that anything her design does end up wearing should look like it was thrown on with as little regard for effort as possible.

This is kind of exactly how people get pushed away and go from being darlings to hated faggots that 'cant stand criticism.' Someone begins making frankly unreasonable demands or throws out critiques that are completely unhelpful or just the autistic screeching of 'don't like what I don't like' to someone. With no offer of an alternative or specific detail that can be examined it's ignored and the offended autism will begin to pile on more and more negativity about how the person in charge of the project is a thin skinned, entitled cuck. Their project sucks! It sucks because it sucks and there's no arguing that it sucks because it sucks! See how they don't take criticism?

At that point its basically switched over to attacking the person in charge of the project, he sucks so nothing he does can be good. This doesn't help much because just saying things are shit without any particular reason why and what needs to be avoided are completely worthless comments, which leads to the person developing the project simply disconnecting from the whole thing. Which leads to accusations of setting up a hugbox around themselves because they'd rather listen to actual critique than someone just screaming that they're a cuck all day. Sometimes their little community of followers really are a hugbox and soon they just go full tumblr, sometimes the little community stays pretty chill.

GS having to try and integrate into human society is a great idea to give the cartoon an overarching theme and goal. In fact if it didn't have that then the whole thing would just be a slice of life show. You know, that ultimate breeding ground of pure waifu shit?

Go back to reddit, here's what really happened
Toonspew is just a hypocritical fagot, he says he learned the lesson of "kill your babies" but literally all he does is cling onto his shitty ideas, I havent ever seen him change his mind after criticism and concerns hes an incompetent writer and only in it for himself.

What fun and interesting aspects were removed that you feel should be brought back?

What parts of the original do you feel have been disrespected?

If the original writer has given his approval regarding this project, then your complaints kinda fall flat on their face.

Sure friendo, sounds to me like somebody's just upset that his shitty ideas aren't being used. Maybe you're the one who should go back to Reddit, seems more your speed, what with you being an irrational whiny faggot and all that.

catchy song

No it isnt. its a shitty idea. The original Ghoul School is like The Adams Family in concept that they dont give a fuck about integrating into society, the movie beat you over the head that you integrate into theirs not the other way around. It's a pocket of a more mundane world that you had to travel to where the normal rules of reality dont apply and crazy shit happens, in this case paranormal. Its the same foundational idea that HP used for huge success, or the most recent LWA.

Toonspew pls go.

if anything the idea of integrating into society and the idea of not giving a shit about what society thinks are completely comparable, if you look at that Addams family example you sited they did try to socialise with their neighbour and make friends with them albeit whilst misunderstanding how to, they didn't just isolate themselves in their own safe spaces and refuse to take part in any social activities like some mudslimes in an Islamic centre. attempting to integrate into society does not need to mean you have to give up your own cultural and personal uniqueness to fit in, i personally would be pissed if that was the direction this ultimately goes in.

NO STOP MAKING ARGUMENTS FUCK YOU

FUCK FUCK FUCK YOU TOONSPEW IS A FAGGOT U SHOULD ALL KILL URSELVES PLEASE GIVE ME ATTENTION UR IDEAS SUCK FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU STOP MAKING CARTOONS WITH YOUR OWN IDEAS AND POSTING THEM HERE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Maybe you should educate yourself on what slice of life is before trying to argue it. Because all of the cartoons without a consistent continuous plot fall into SoL, which is what CN wants.

There's a limit to how much GS or The Adams Family actually integrate, they do it in their own misunderstanding on what normal actually is, thats the appeal to that type of character they are so far out of the norm that they think what theyre doing is totally fine. The Adams Family neighbors roles or the cadets in the movie who are normal react to the extreme absurdity, without the extreme differences there is no joke. Its not even close to only used in this genre either.

of course but at the same time lots of amusing high-jinks can occur from the one of GS squad walking up some normie bitches for some good old fashion

followed by the girl failing completely and being socially ostracising/mocked/bullied, whilst at the same time not even knowing that they are being bullied as if they were some kind of severely autistic kid on a school playground, or just getting their own back usually by some sort of prank or an edgy comeback to scare the bitches away like Wednesday Addams

that could be a working formula for some of the comedy in the show.

Maybe as a one episode idea, but the whole concept of GS is culture clashes pushed to extremes. So what then, the normie bitches just serve as the old reaction role as the cadets used to? and the cadets are more understanding of their waifu counterpart's ways ? It would be more funny and interesting if there was a cultural tug of war, with the ghouls and cadets trying to pull eachother towards their side but to say that all ghouls want to learn how to be waifus in human society and dont like their own monster-ness is just a shit idea .

So now the argument is how marketable the show would be?

Cause I think a cartoon centered around where to make concessions to society and when to stand on principals as an overarching narrative would be pretty marketable.

Also, thank you for taking part of a response to an accusation of the show being nothing but waifu bait, removing the context, and arguing a different point. It's the exact kind of goalpost shifting and ethereal attack that adds so very much to the dialogue.

The Addams family is actually a very good pretense for how things should be handled. I mean, at the very core of the idea is that these girls are monsters. Sibella can't go out on a sunny day, Phantasma can just go through walls, Ellsa probably has to be grounded at all times around electronics.

There are aspects of them that will never truly 'fit in' with society, and parts of them that would do just fine.

Not that it wouldn't be fine to have the GS function as the setting a few times and trying not to scare the normies that come in. Kinda like the original movie but not having all the characters seem like clueless morons about scaring Shaggy.

Though I think the Addams Family/Edward Scissorhands 'the horror of suburbia' would work well.

Though honestly, there's no reason we couldn't just have both.

Actually she can. She walked around during the day in the film.

Plus in the original story of Dracula, and in the original lore of vampires in general, sunlight was not deadly to them. From what I can tell, sunlight killing vampires is something made up in films, possibly starting with Nosferatu.

...

not at all what i was trying to suggest.

what i was going for was that the girls try to take part in the fun activities of the suburbs just because it looks new and interesting, as said in they don't have to compromise their culture and i think they should resist attempt to force them to "fit in" and as for what happens next maybe one of the bitches can go too far and cause serious harm to Winnie or Tanis because of "hairiness" or "flat chest" resulting in that girl crying/attempting suicide resulting in Sibella beating the shit out of/ verbally attacking/trying to murder said bitch may be a great source of drama and i think tackling relate-able issues may be a good way for the show to go in a more adult direction.

Forwhatpurpose.jpg is the theme of this "reboot"

something something learn to be OK with your features or some shit like that. this episode could end with said bitch apologising at the end.

So this is a whiplash between MLP and trying way too hard to be edgy?

well she may not have encountered bullying prior to the events of GS 2018 or what ever

i dunno just throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks. and besides this show is still going in an "adult direction" though having depressing crawlinginmyskin.exe PSA episodes about faggots and hurting feelings along with straight comedy episodes about Winnie trying and failing to catch a cat or the girls being scared shitless of a common fruit fly or Godzilla daughter coming to town and accidentally destroying houses and being arrested only to be both to young to serve prison for property damage and being to big to fit in prison. could make for some variety.

I dont like the idea of Winnie actually contemplating suicide . If you want to venture into that territory then you should apply some dark humor to it.

well yeah, even media like berserk has some comic relief in the form of puck and that one kid to lighten the mood

Now there's a topic for discussion, what weaknesses are we going to talk about per character?

Vampire probably being the most extreme of this, as you're right, some of the original versions of the myth didn't involve sunlight at all. Though they did have to return to the dirt of their grave by day. There's also things like being unable to cross bodies of moving water and just what the rules on feeding would be.

That could lead to a lot of fun, especially if Winnie keeps picking off some of her sheep.

Attempting suicide or murder as a response to an offhanded insult is stupid. But I think the absurdity of the extreme here was meant to simply convey the thematic arc that could be addressed in the situation.

That being said, having the girls break down over things like bullying or mean words doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Particularly if they have different standards of beauty and aesthetics. Which as monsters they kinda should.

I don't think bullying would even really be a valid topic for the girls. I don't think anyone is going to pick on a monster. More likely you'll have that 'crossing the street' discrimination where people are uncomfortable around them.

Actually it might be more hilarious if a group of girls tries to make a concerted effort to make friends with the girls, but all of their intended friendly remarks are super mean to the girls. Like telling Winnie that her claws don't look dangerous at all, or Elsa that they hardly even see her bolts.

Is there anyway to get access to the "pitch bible" that Toonspew went around shilling, because without that the only time we can get a glimpse of his autistism fanfiction every time he posts.

Hi there, studio executive here, my name is Lieberman Berglettstein.

The only way this show would be supported if one of the girls was trans, one of them was Muslim, one otherkin (perhaps Winnie could be otherkin, could save us on the budget, what with humans being easier to draw), you get my point.

Are you willing to change your work to create a bountiful and tolerant show?

i'll just leave this here

Did you just assume Xeir genders?
In future year-3?

Eugh. The only thing worse than a waifufag is a shipperfag.

Holla Forums was right, its fucking waifu trash. Toonspew is a nigger and it was always about shipping his ocs with ghoul school characters. what a faggot

i like the idea of a group of girls trying to be friends, but it just doesnt work, because they are to different/monsters, so in the end they transform/cure all the girls of GS into humans

You sicken me

I drew this last year, I don't like it that much.

sssh, that's a loli. not welcome in these threads

did he also approve of all the porn?

some senile fuck who can't remember what he wrote over 30 years ago?

Toonspew pls go

and didn't most of the movie take place in a swampy overcast area?

...

He even has that edgy fanfic-tier redesign as his avatar, good lord

and the worst part is when I go into google images to find the cute ones, I get swamped with all this OC garbage

I do

Oi fuck you. Loli is great.

Better take on that, have the girls that accidentally bullied them become actual friends. Then in a future episode monsters become trendy and they get themselves transformed into them.

Probably wouldn't work with Elsa or Phanty… that seems pretty permanent, but I think you could use the rest and just say that right after you get crused/bit/scratched you can turn back if you get a cure in a few days.

don't tell the normies that, they'll flip out

Would breed

How's those commissions going?

bruh work on your fundamentals before you start shading shit, you have potential

Got the Gruftine one off the ground, the guys a real good artist, so it might take a while.

Still looking for a Sibella one though.

Nice

could be a funny episode but i'm worried someone may the show writers of being Illuminati.

oops meant to post this image but didn't notice i had something embedded

whats the guys name. maybe i could check out some of his other art

I recently found this one, how about this guy?

its shit

we can also have a joke about her joining because she thought she would be drinking litteral blood

Fresh Winnie

how much longer do we have left

also bump

A week or two for the Sibella one, don't know for the Gruftine. After this week, I shall contact the Gruftine one to see if they have started it.

This thread might last that long, but in case it doesn't, where should we look for the completed pics?

Doesn't seem like the thread can be bumped anymore because something.

I'll put them here
blacklightmark1.tumblr.com/

Nice

Uh?

Nein mein herr, die pic of Phantasma is just a reference. So, would you like to try draw Batoria as I told you? Please?
