You can't even afford to live on your own in my state while making 13/hr working 44 hours a week. I realize that's not exactly good pay but it's significantly above minimum wage. The main problem is housing costs driven through the roof.
You either have to be a professional (who can afford to live in condos), or live like a mexican in multigenerational homes. I'm not sure exactly when this happened, sometime in the last few decades.
