Here are some jobs you can get right now with a high school diploma:

1. Work in a restaurant. Take whatever job you can get to get in the door, work your ass off and move up. I did this myself, started as a busser and now am a manager. I make $46,800 to work 4 days (30 hours) and I have health insurance + 2 weeks vacation. It's not the best but I can pay all of my bills and invest into my IRA + brokerage accounts.

2. Join the military. Take the shit serious, study your ass off on the ASVAB and get a good job. Take advantage of every opportunity Uncle Sam gives you. The military WANTS officers, show them you're not retarded, get your education that they fucking pay for. Then go apply to OCS and if you get your shit done right you can be living comfy AF on Uncle Sam's dime.

3. Learn a trade. The sooner you start on this the better. Starting pay sucks and it's hard work. You'll be in some pretty shitty conditions most of the time too, and if you're a plumber you'll literally be working in shit. Earning potential for these jobs is enormous though, especially if you get into a union. These guys are 20-something years old with no college making 80k a year.

4. UPS worker (really any union gig) It doesn't take a lot of education to get in but these are union gigs that pay really well once you put your time in. Full benefits as well.

5. Real estate agent. I saved this for last because it's really difficult and it's effectively owning and operating your own business. You pay dues, take classes to maintain your license, may have to pay office / desk fees, plus many other costs for thinks like a CRM. Long story short you better have at least 6 months living expense before you take this endeavor. A good network is vital and you have to be willing to work all day every day. A less risky way of entering this business is to be someone's assistant for a while.

6. Personal trainer. You'll have to take a certification first and the good ones can run for close to or above (haven't checked in a while) $1,000. Some gyms pay for your certification but they probably also pay less.
The end game here is to move into business for yourself. My buddy started at Equinox in midtown and now does it for himself. The hours are tough but there's money to be made. Again this requires a lot of networking.

To make a long story short there are plenty of jobs out there but you have to work to get them and they sure as shit aren't easy and don't always let you live a lavish lifestyle.

Where do you live in? Wage is location based. If I earned 15 an hour in the country vs 15 an hour in the city, they will yield two completely different results, based on pricing such as housing, food etc.

There should be a minimum wage indexed for average real estate price. It would help grow the country side pushing employers to go where housing is cheap.

I work at a normal chain place. raising it won't help anyone. Everything will just go up to match. the people making 7.25 will still feel like they are making 7.25 the numbers on their pay check will just be a little bigger.
