California's high speed rail is the biggest boondoggle the state's ever tried to build. Everyone said not in my backyard so the route makes it worthless even before it's built. It should have been scrapped right there but the voters threw money at it anyway because so progressive.

Trump will most likely try getting trains back though, think of it this way from an economic and personal standpoint, economically it increases the ability to transfer goods across the nation more effectively and "greener" and then from a personal standpoint he'd get big bucks from Carl Icahn and earn a lot of favors for next election

It would be more cost effective and efficient to invest in airports and better airplanes, as well as abolishing of the TSA.
It would be better to fly from DC to NYC or Boston than to take a train, because there would only need to be a single location of an airport (instead of miles of track and infrastructure related to rail transport).
High-efficiency light rail should be used as local transport to-and-from airports and the cities.

High speed rail sucks. First, public transit is socialism. Second, the point of the rail system is to make the central valley a suburb of silicon valley, but why should people live hundreds of miles from where they work?

If planes used less fuel or were at least more efficient about it, it would drive the prices down. If more planes were around to accommodate the increase in demand, prices can still be low as well.

Though, it would be interesting to upgrade our rail travel. Japan is pretty incredible with their infrastructure.

I'll give California's existing Amtrak lines credit for being reasonably white and middle-class. At least the Surfliner is. I used to ride it a couple years ago and it's a comfortable ride. Like an airplane cabin but more spacious.

It's useless if you have a car, though. Costs slightly more than a tank of gas and is just about the same speed. Cars also have the benefit of actually taking you places once you reach your destination, which is just about a requirement in this state.

The real reason why California wants high speed rail (other than as a boondoggle) is because of the NIMBY (Not In My Backyard, in this case ultra-rich liberal property owners) refusal to let high density housing be built anywhere. They refuse to accept that SF is one of the biggest cities in the country, or that the satellite suburbs are no longer sleepy towns, and rent is completely ridiculous everywhere. When developers want to build high density housing for the techfags, the NIMBYs block them because oy vey this is somehow racist as it only benefits white and asian no wait don't mention that tech yuppies that are currently paying thousands of dollars a month to live in shoeboxes. Then when the developers offer to include "affordable housing" (aka section 8), they find ways to pretend that this isn't good enough and their pet apes shouldn't settle for this, to hide the fact that they really just don't want niglets running around their neighborhoods. Or they just say "muh view, muh historic look" and vote it away. They're all a bunch of selfish, hypocritical kikes.

So if the NIMBYs won't let them build up, all these cucks can do is build out. They "need" high speed rail because they're too weak to tell the NIMBYs to fuck off and change their zoning. So the only option left is to cling to the hope that they can somehow complete a bazillion dollar high speed rail project and dump the highrises somewhere in the middle of nowhere before the state's economy implodes. And even if they built the infrastructure, they'd probably fuck it up all over again by building low density housing all along the rail and slowing it down with too many stops.

The only hope for this shithole is that it will have a major demographic shift as Trump kicks out the illegals and cuts back on H1-Bs, and maybe it will have a chance of getting some Republicans into office again.
