That animation quality sure is weird. It jumps from being horrible, to mediocre, to okay for a couple seconds, then back to the former two.

This show actually creeped me out. This was suppose to be a kids show and it kept subtly sexualizing them. I though it would have enjoy it, but it's just sad to me.

you have to view it in perspective. It's actually pretty interesting. The show creators accidentally stumbled on what Japan has been doing for years and either improved on the formula, or western culture was so starved for this particular kind of media that the lonely people it accidentally catered to at first latched on.

It revolves around 6 single female characters with cute designs that have simplified traits and personalities that a lonely man would find attractive and endearing(loyalty, honesty, generosity, kindness etc). There are no romantics rivals in the world, few male characters in general, and all the female characters are extremely friendly and would be easy to get along with due to their simplified personalities. This is what animes directed at the waifu audience do to a T. The way I think it may improve on the formula is that it throws a little sonic autism in there. It would be easy to design and throw in your own colorful or edgy character to interact with the pony you've latched onto… so not only are you catering to a lonely faggots lonliness, but also their need for escapism and self hatred for their physical appearance.

Since then you've had several cartoons try to recreate the success of MLP without understanding what notes it hit. It makes you wonder how successful a cartoon that actually knew it was targeting waifu fags in the west would be.

the whole phenomenon has interested me for years now, though in a semi-morbid way. The closest anyone has ever come to recreating it was Rebecca Sugar with Steven Universe, which is an even more interesting case because you find that people actually latched onto the characters more for their personalities and voices than their designs considering they really aren't attractive in any way… but she ruined her own success by shipping them and revealing their sexuality, of course I'm sure she was more concerned with her agenda over the success of her show anyways.
