Ok, so today I saw Doctor Strange and there were a few things I kind of picked up on that seemed a bit like social/political driven things in scenes.

Ok, so first and foremost they changed the Sorcerer Supereme character from a old tibettan man to some Celtic (white) woman. That is probably ruffling a few feathers. I wonder what Holla Forumss opinion is on this…I think it may have been a move to make the Chinese like the movie more.

Second off, there is a point where she mentions "You need a safe space to practice your magic" and thus puts Strange in a "mirror dimension" which allows you to look and interact with what is LIKE the real world but you can't really change the real world.
Now, this one kind of got me because in one instance its implying that you are safe from others, even in LARGE crowds (there is a fight in the middle of new york that takes place in this dimension) but there was also a sort of back-handed meaning in that the person in the "safe space" couldn't fuck with others.
Sort of like a vibe of "Safe spaces" are basically containment spaces for crazies and dysfunctionals.

SPOILERS:

Near the end you find out that the supreme woman had been breaking the rules. She had been feeding off of the "Dark Dimension" powers to keep herself alive and in top form. This is seen as a betrayal at first but eventually Strange comes around to "Well she did what she had to do" meanwhile the other guy gets so fed up with such blatant lies that he's been serving under that he leaves the order entirely.
Could this have been an allusion to Hillary Clinton? I know a lot of filming was being done during the primaries and the presidential race. They could have done pickup shots and such during editing too.

The idea of that kind of reality where you never die kinda fuels lots of people right now, with the whole game industry creating alternate-realities in games where you can die as much as you want and still keep playing. Wouldn't surprise me when people actually believe that if you die, you get to start all over again from your last "checkpoint". So they live the moment without thinking the critical thinking of their actions, because at the end, they get to start all over again.
That being said, the good guys fight to keep the universal order of their reality, where you are born and you die, nothing is eternal. Limited time making your stay as important as it is. Some sort of redpill in this kind of days where people think that all that there is is relative and you can be whatever the hell you want to be.

Video games serve a different purpose. Movies are a story telling medium and 99.99% offer a narrative, video games are games, more similar to poker or monopoly than to any story telling medium. They are time consuming as hell and besides a dopamine rush, don't really provide any lasting story. There are a few that do, like Deus Ex which is redpilled as fuck, or Morrowind which is comparable to LotR, but I see video games as something you do to spend time with other people instead of by yourself in your room.

Modern games have a narrative over gameplay though.

The thing I have against movies is that they allow the director to exercise total emotional control over the viewer in a way that theater does not. A theatrical viewer has to listen to what the actors are saying, and views the action from a somewhat detached perspective. Theater doesn't seize control of its viewers and provide an emotion and interpretation.

There is also a form of theater that allows this–the musical. Music and dance produces an analogous controlling effect over the audience.

Is The Neon Demon actually good? I didn't like Only God Forgives, I wish he would go back to something like the first Pusher. Both Pusher and Drive had this slow acceleration and sense inevitability that few other films capture. I especially liked, in Pusher, how the dialogue is long winded and rambling at the start, almost annoyingly so, but becomes more and more concise and focuses over the duration. It just pisses me off that they "re made" and English language version that was of course shit.

Honestly from years of playing games, the only game that I could truly say is a work of art would be Bloodborne. The absurd depth of the story, the music, the art style, the still unexplained things like why the gate to the cathedral is identical to the Doll's hairpiece.

Also the obsessive attention to detail to establish continuity: for example the fact that the "reflection" of the moon in the lake isn't actually a reflection - it's an image being cast onto the water's surface from BELOW; the Byrgenwerth telescope is actually a giant fucking projector. So this even explains why you can see the "reflection" of the moon in the same spot no matter where you're standing.

Defining a game as art is always rather tricky. For me, a certain amount of elements needs to line up. Mainly this comes in the form of the story elements and the gameplay elements being so intertwined that one can not really exist with out the other.
On top of that, the game must engage the player beyond just the simple fact of beating the game.

The most well known example of this would be the MGS series but mostly all heaps on to MGS2.
