If there was a real market in the thin slice of profit in delivering food somebody else made, Grubhub would hire their workers rather than using them as 'independent contractors'.

I have spoken to a few restaurant owners and they don’t like it, they are forced to use it because their competitors do. Deliveroo has become so popular that if they don’t use it then they will simply lose out on business they could have relied on before Deliveroo came to town. The only difference is they now have to give a whopping cut to Deliveroo. It is like a protection racket.

The staff of Deliveroo work their fingers to the bone for a terrible wage and are at the mercy of tips to make minimum wage.

Same with Takeaway’s, they all have to offer JustEat (an order hub for takeaways). They get the same amount of business as before it came to town but now have to pay a subscription to JustEat to be a member.
