Then in the 80s the Turkish minority threatened to surpass the number 10% where the international treaties will give him minority rights and the like, so the communists decided to start forcing them to change their names to Bulgarian ones. Of course, the current leader of the Turkish party was one of those who enforced this whole "changing the names" thing, but the irony is lost to most people. Anyway, as a result to this process there was some falling out between the Turkish minority and the rest of Bulgaria, which falling out is still artificially kept up by the Turkish parties.

Why are there TWO Turkish parties? Because one of them sold itself to Putin, while the other stayed loyal to Erdogan.
