The problem was when everyone started making a board for their hobby and shilling it, just because they wanted to be in charge of a board. It was new and exciting as few anons ever got to properly use the admin controls with actual users.

So then you have 20 boards for niche games with 3 users, when you could instead of placed them onto Holla Forums and gotten more people in those threads posting.

We were never going to have as many users as 4chan, especially at the start, so I don't know why everyone decided to fragment as quickly as they did.

The worst part about user count is, on the few times I've been back to 4/co/ to grab screencaps of anons crossposting threads, there's often a few threads/replies that are actually really good, but then they get buried by reddit-tier memes.
