There used to be a time in which it seemed possible to make socialism "cool" again after the backlash of the 80s.

Now this time is over … and today, RATM would have been accused of cultural appropriation for wearing dreadlocks despite not being African-American, for caring more about class, workers and unions than about transgenderkin "identities" and there "rage" would probably be called toxic masculinity…

More people had jobs so they were more class concious

Back in the late 80s/early 90s (Rage's first album was released in 1992), there was a lot of Gen X angst against the system. Nirvana and the whole Grunge scene. Movies like Reality Bites and Clerks. Books like Fight Club. There was a lot of potential there.

But then the economic conditioned improved for Gen X and the rage wasn't there anymore.

There was so much potential in the early-mid 90s. But then it fizzled out.

Chronically unemployed people can't be class conscious?

it beacuse of liberals and their pet idpolers
now the left is irelavant (at least we still have 3rd world)

My sister is from Gen X. And at one point in the 90s she had fears about her future. But then "everything worked out fine" for her. She is a manager and even though she is a liberal, she buys into the "muh bootstraps" stuff. Even my retired baby boomer trade unionist dad believes in the "muh bootstraps" shit. The baby boomers and even Gen X are incredibly classcucked out of their mind.

Whenever I cite labour statistics to my dad whenever he gives me the bootstraps speech, he just kinda brushes it off and says "well in my day in the 70s when I was your age it was tough for me too."

I pointed out to him that adjusting for inflation, the minimum wage was double in the 60s compared to what it is now. My dad was able to buy a house after working a few years. And he was able to pay it off in no time compared to the mortgages now. I pointed out to him that there are too many job applicants chasing too few job vacancies. Less than 85% of men 30-34 have a job at all. Only like 78-79% have a full-time job. The official unemployment rate is complete bullshit. You have to look at the actual employment rate. And notice how much it has plummeted since the 70s. Wages have not kept pace with inflation, they have not kept pace with labour productivity gains.

Cost of food is going up. Cost of electricity, health care and all this other shit going up. Cost of University tuition going up through the roof. Student debt is a huge problem.

Gen Y ("millennials") are FUCKED. That's why we wanted B████ ██████ in there.

el oh el

i really like this. great way to rustle some jimmies.

This is exactly why people perceive leftists to be stuffy ivory tower intellectuals.
Rage Against The Machine were awesome. They explained socialism in a way that everyday people would understand. And they spread that message to millions of people.

Rage Against The Machine, Fight Club and Charles Bukowski is all great. But not good enough for stuffy intellectuals who are out-of-touch with the actual working-class.

"Killing in The Name" is probably my favourite RATM track.

Haha don't try to use ivory tower boogeyman to justify your third grade taste in music and movies
Not even leftist (not unlike social democrats) just a garbage flick for edgy teens.

it's not worth it m8, if you had posted that they were awful she'd be here singing their praises

There is more than one anarchafem poster ya know

Is there? I've never seen anything of any worth posted under that flag, so I can't really tell.

It's weird, when I post under my Yugo flag people seem to like my posts, but when I don't it's like something changes, weird!

People only become faggots when you are being a faggot.

yugos a shit too tbh fam

...

What do you mean? Just because you're against the capitalist order doesn't mean you have to be a dickhead, eh. Why even make someone else's body political, or refer to it as if it had such an impact on class?? And, look, here's a band member of RATM "caring" about a transgendered person.

what, is there supposed to be something wrong with that tweet?

No, I'm saying that no one is going to accuse RATM of "toxic masculinity."

RATM sucks

I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Socialism is way more popular now than it was in the 90s.

Nothing against the band itself, but RATM fans were textbook teenage/college liberals going through a "crazy radical phase" that they abandoned when they got some white collar job and "settled down"

Maybe people just inflict their presuppositions onto anonymous internet posters.

Yugoslavia will rise again cuckboy

Fucking this

Yes I'm sure the reason everyone thinks you're garbage is that everyone else has a problem, and you are entirely blameless.

I'm almost tempted to post with the anfem poster for a while and actually participate in good discussion instead of shitposting, if I thought for even a second you'd actually learn something from it.

OR maybe if you talk BS you get BS.

Then again, the flag has been defiled.

Go for it man, I believe in you.

Exactly. You just described Generation X. lol.It was a big cultural phenomenon of teenage angst. Spearheaded by Nirvana. Rage Against the Machine played a smaller role a little later. RATM fans back then are major classcucks now. I guarantee it. I started getting into rage late. At 15 in 2000/2001. When they released their last album. And then a slightly older friend of mine at the time told me about their older albums and I listened to them. RATM was my introduction into socialism.

I am actually one of rare who likes replies and threads of 'anarchofem poster' and fuck Yugoslavia ( from someone who lives in ex-Yugoslav country )

All of you Tito cucks should read this insurgentnotes.com/2013/10/yugoslav-self-management-capitalism-under-the-red-banner/
Yugoslav Self-Management: Capitalism Under the Red Banner

I'm not really a titoist, my great grandma was from Yugoslavia though, so why not? I'm not an anarchist either. I dunno why people assume posters follow the ideology of their flag.

Thanks for the reading though, regardless.

well I mean, that's kind of what they're for

What about this one?

That flag is just kind of redundant.

Yeah but the rest of the flags are srs bzns

Are you the same anarhofem who posts gender abolitionists texts ? They are awesome.

From which part of Yugoslavia was your grandma ?

What the fuck are you on about, socialism is already as commodified as it has ever been. Socialism is already "cool", but it is "cool" with the SJW idpol crowd.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure which part exactly. She died when I was pretty young and none of the rest of my family knows much about our heritage (as far as I know, not in contact with them anyways)

I really regret not learning at least a bit of culture from her. She would always play songs on the piano which seemed weird to me as a kid, so I assume those were folk songs.

Also, I might be. I've posted some stuff but I don't think I've posted as much as others.

No.
Higher taxes, SJW stuff and preaching asceticism for "ecological" reasons are not socialism.

The working-class mainly just wants better wages, a better social safety net and better public services. They don't want to run their own business because they see it as carrying too much responsibility and too risky. Holla Forums will even tell you that they are not intelligent enough to run their own business. They need the guidance of a shrewd entrepreneur to run a business for them.

...

my first brush with socialism was rage against the machine's cover of ghost of old tom joad my social studies teacher played for the class

1990s probably were the worst time for socialism.

The Soviet bloc had just broken down, leading the general public to believe that 'socialist economies' (whatever that means) can never work.

Over 400 million in eastern europe had just ditched Realsozialismus in favour of buying cheap VHS recorders. But this disregard that, because western 90s college stoner scene seem soooo cool.

Anybody who thinks this was the time to move beyond capitalism is either retarded or was not yet born.

You watched Chuck Norris vs. Communism didn't you? LOL
For those not aware, it's a documentary about American film VHS bootlegs being imported into Socialist Romania in the mid-late 80s and early 90s.

Seriously though, Romania's "socialist" government was fucking terrible. You worked as hard as any American, probably even more, and you got paid a pittance for your labour. Romanians were spending a huge chunk of their salaries on colour TVs, VHS recorders, bootlegged VHS tapes of American films and even "screenings" of those bootlegged films.

Government-ownership of the means of production doesn't mean jack shit if the state is paying you paltry wages for your labour. And fucking over local producers and merchants by enacting price controls on goods and services. "Socialist" Romania was a shithole.

BUMP

As someone who was there I would say what brought the 90s to a halt was '911'. Hard to remember now how opposition to corporate "free trade" was escalating. The 1999 WTO inspired state of emergency in Seattle has been lost to the mist of time. The minute the first tower went down it was all over.
