A new show came out on Netflix, it's about a boy and his ghost buddies going on a quest around the world to stop an angry god from destroying the world. It's a adventure cartoon that was better than I was expecting, and the ghost girl is pretty cute too.

This franchise seems to get better and better.
In practice that's not saying much though.
The first movie was shit in every sense, both writting and animation.
The second movie was shit but bearable. 5.4/10 probably.
The third one was ok decent, the animation was better and the writting was ok. 6.3/10.
I haven't seen the new one but as for the trailers go it seems like they now have actual animation.

The same company even made an episode in one of the "El Chapulin Colorado" animated show (A slapstick super-hero parody originally from the 70's) episodes where a couple of (Probably gay) Americans come as tourists to Mexico, they towered in height over all the other characters and were pretty /fit/ compared to the mexican cast but acted like pussies and when a ghost appeared they kept calling it the "African American ghost" prompting the Mexican cast to correct them by saying it was called the "Black ghost"

If you're ever talking to someone about a show/movie they watched, a fair number of times they'll say "Yeah, I downloaded it, want a copy on a USB?" I've had mates, relatives, teachers, shop owners etc all offer/give me copies of movies/shows.

An artist can pay his taxes by placing his work on museums or public perfomances (Of course if you're using that specific work to pay taxes you can't charge for royalties), everyone also pirates here, not for any particular difficulties at getting content but because Mexicans are as cheapskates as they can possibly be, they'll try to find the easiest cheaper solution to a problem as possible.
You can put a place to sell pirate movies in the middle of the street and nothing will happen to you unless someone calls the cops on you.

The movies don't seem to have the same continuity as the Netflix series. Teodora's backstory is completely different, implying the first movie never happened, so there is no brother and no Xochitl.

It is nowhere near good, but manages to be worth a watch anyway for the sheer novelty.
The writing is weak and derivative, and the lack of experience and budget is clearly visible in the animation. But a few interesting characters and plot twists makes it a mildly rewarding slog, and the Mexican motif is one that hasn't been done to death.
Having a larger story arc also makes me inclined to be lenient and grade on a curve. Being ambitious and failing is better than skirting by with the least amount of effort, and this one isn't a complete failure.
Better watch the last two movies.

I've heard people refer to the series as a "soft reboot" of the films. Leo still met Teodora, Don Andres, and Alebrije and had adventures with them before the series started, but the circumstances of how they met was different. Leo still lives with his granny, but now her name is different. There are some lolis from the movies that I hope they reintroduce to the series too, like Xochitl and Kika.
