So friends, obviously we have a lot of threads about much of the doom and gloom regarding the events of the current day. I mean, we're socialists (most of us) and if you're a socialist life as it currently looks in the world is pretty bleak. Capitalism takes away most freedom, instead leading people to survive like animals performing simple tasks in exchange for currency to simply exist.
So, I thought we'd have at least one thread where we talk about what your personal life would look like under communism. What would your day to day routine look like? What kind of things would you do? What kind of labor would you voluntarily perform for the community? And remember, this is YOUR dream and not anyone else's. So feel free to just let loose for once and talk about how your life would look under communism.
Personally, I'd live in Hawaii (ever since I first touched that rock, I fell in love with the people and the beautiful environment). I'd love to spend some of my time teaching other people how to lift and get proper nutrition in order to maximize dem gainz, or at least lose some weight to lead a healthy life if they need it. I'd also spend a lot of time detailing other people's cars, because fuck do I love cleaning things and making them look nice.
I'd also love to be a leader of what I'd envision as a local Soviet (leaders of small groups of people who get certain things their people need, organize some facets of labor in case other people need something specifically, and basically serve as a small representative of my worker's block). That would be an amazing thing, to just make sure that the folks I live around had everything they need, and go to other local Soviets to maybe ask for goods or finished products only they could provide. I've always been a good facilitator of people, and fulfilling the task of a leader (making sure the people that look to you have what they need to succeed). That would be my primary form of labor, alongside what I said about teaching lifting and cleaning people's shit.
After my busy day teaching others about fitness, or detailing cars or organizing worker's needs I'd love to go home and cook dinner for hopefully my immediate family and my neighbors. For me, socialism would mean constant gatherings of people around food and drink. Constant evening talks between friends and labors, probably discussing philosophy or fishing or surfing (fuck I love surfing). I'm a pretty good cook, so I'd love to put a smile on other people's faces with food. At the end of my day, hopefully I'd at least have an hour or two to play vidya, and I'd call that a good day.
I think, like most of the people here, I'd be most fit for some kind of academic work. I'd love to get much, much more into the anthropology I've been studying already - spend my time actually reading interesting stuff, especially on religion. Having a nice place up in the North - probably Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine etc. - and somewhere to crash in Boston, NY or Philly would be a pretty great life. Maybe try my hand at writing some fiction.

Except I've actually been entrusted with other human beings in my life, user.
Caleb Edwards
Probably live the rest of my life touring around the country on my motorcycle and exploring new places and meeting new people.
Cameron Evans
I would shitpost.
Logan Taylor
Don't mean to be a dick, but got any socially useful labor to contribute user?
Hudson Russell
Literally just do my part and go about my day like a good communist. I am a simple man.
Logan Johnson

Landon Reed
What part though would that be though user? Fixing shit, digging ditches, construction maybe?
Ayden Cook
Not to be a dick, but being a glorified car washer is socially useful?

Aaron Bailey
Alright, so teaching others about exercise and diet aren't useful and I guess community organization of labor isn't useful?

I run services for the council at the moment and check economic data out for the local area w/e. In a Socialist/Communist society though I think I'd like to be a farmer. Seems pretty chill and collectivised farms would be quite active. Seems like a cool environment.

I would shoot counter revolutionaries and write stories.
Nathaniel Williams
My life would be like 80% the same (I work from home as an artist for video games/comics), I just wouldn't be so misanthropic and sickened every time I go out into society.
I'd love to work with the elderly or even babysit the community's kids. I dunno, whatever needs doing in my neighborhood I guess. I'd love to be a part of an actual community of real life humans and feel like any physical labor I did is genuinely helping out my neighbors.

Ideally?

Just use drugs and kill people because everything is legal lol

Pursue my dreams of computer hardware repair with the advantages of state funded education and one day operate a state-owned computer repair shop.
So like basically what Im already doing minus the state actually supporting me instead of oppressing me.
Lucas Ward
I meant with the added support of the state as opposed to the oppression of the state.
Jonathan White
Assuming it was a very socially libertarian kind of communism, I'd work on AI technology to try and remove the need for human labor altogether. FALC cannot come soon enough, and strong AI would solve a hell of a lot of other problems too.
If it was anywhere near as socially authoritarian and puritanical as our current society, I'd probably be just as depressed and semi-suicidal as I am right now. Give me lolis or give me death.
This shit is why I'd just give everyone a UBI or some other kind of resource allowance and let them figure out how they can best contribute to society. Trying to define "socially useful labor" is a minefield.
Dominic Ramirez
Shooting yourself is really unnecessary. You could just see an exorcist instead.
Ayden Bailey
I didn't mean it as a need. I think people who would just sit and produce music would produce things 100x more pure and beautiful than music produced under the authoritarian system of capitalism (need to sell records, need to sell everything including the artist).
Personally, I think there is going to be more work going on under communism than there is under capitalism. So I mean, in essence we'll be producing more and creating more things to include goods and art. Socially useful labor can include everything, but dickbag up there seems to think no one would want their car washed.
James Martin
Just doing my same job except instead of keeping porky's network from going down and losing him precious money it would be keeping the people's network from going down so people aren't interrupted while they shitpost and jack it to porn.
Then I'd go home and indulge in my hobbies that I actually have time for now.
Brayden Williams

Hunter Evans
Ignoring the fact that almost all of my assets would be seized and redistributed, I'd probably still be working in education or public radio, preferably covering cultural and community events, planning, etc.

Be happy

It is like you want wild dreams to be exclusive to porky or something. thinking some form of socialism will be achievable in my lifetime is one of the few things keeping me from offing myself right now tbh
This shit is why I'd just give everyone a UBI or some other kind of resource allowance and let them figure out how they can best contribute to society. Trying to define "socially useful labor" is a minefield. This.
Besides indulging in my hobbies and looking for ways to help the community i would actually do exactly as this comrade.
Since that is the only "job" I'm qualified to do right now.
Isaiah Turner
probably kill myself, seeing as how'd the struggle would be over and my life would have ceased to hold any meaning/value
David Lewis
Despite endless whining about social liberalism and gulchural margsism, traditional life will probably prosper under socialism because the economy will be driven by stability instead of growth. Avant-garde and niche lifestyles will simply remain a possibility.
Cripples will probably see the biggest benefits, though. You wouldn't believe how much happier they'd be if they could just feel valuable to society.
Jonathan Jones
Honestly I'd love to be a stay at home dad, maybe write some fiction in my own time, get involved working in local schools once my kids are going there. Just live my life like I do at weekends, but every day.
Luke Nguyen
It's too late for us. Socialism is the promise of happiness for future generations unburdened by massive, pervasive alienation.
David Evans
This. I'd get in good with a chemistry research group and throw myself into my work, either a quantum group or I'd be the dedicated computational chemist of a larger and/or more broadly focused organic/bioorganic group. I'd throw myself deeper into pure mathematics - currently I'm about at the level of Shilov's linear algebra and Kolmogorov/Formin's analysis - learning stochastic calculus for finance, risk engineering, social choice theory, optimal control theory, optimization methods in general, maybe some differential geometry and relativity.I'd explore all my interests more broadly knowing I have a genuine chance to make myself useful to others with what I learn at the policy, research or industrial level, in contrast to the present system. As it stands I almost hate myself for knowing too much that's unrelated to my work. Given that modern consumer ideology is characterized by compulsive guilt and an obligation to self-justify by enjoyment.
The bourgeois state has provided several severe barriers to this, not least of which the SJW menace ready to tear out your throat for speaking your mind or sharing the truth on certain matters. Whether through trumped-up student conduct charges, artificially low grades in humanities courses that block you from prestigious (or decent) undergrad and graduate programs, the ceaseless *publicly backed* STEM recruitment drives in the midst of a major oversupply of qualified individuals who then face artificially overenhanced competition for government funding and suppressed wages in generally heavily regulated, cronyist industries (conflict of interest,) A participatory workplace and community organization would give me real opportunity to use skills to help real people.
Gavin Murphy
fuck forgot my shitposting flag

I would still work as usual, but i wouldn't feel like shit anymore when patients need expensive treatment they couldn't afford under capitalism. For the rest of the time, i don't think my life would change that much.
