The IRA is a lot closer to clerical fascism than it is to Marxism, communism, or any other form of emancipatory politics. The IRA was very anti-Church. Irish nationalism had an unfortunate clerical strain that ended up dominating the Republic until recently, but the IRA supported a united Socialist Ireland free from the yokes of London and Rome.
