i believe gpg uses AES as the symmetric cipher backend. it's the asymmetric implementation that uses other ciphers. to clarify though, AES is not an archive format. it's just an encryption algorithm. so we don't actually know the file type of the insurance files. that's smart because it adds a little more difficulty to known plaintext attacks. that means that if the decryption keys come out, we first need to figure out the file type of the decoded file. that's one thing the unix "file" command is very good at doing.

You can get the raw .eml data from Wikileaks itself by any number of methods. My database is intended for people who would like to search for particular email addresses or correspondences (sender is A receiver is B, etc) and anyone who knows how to work with SQLite databases. You can connect to it in any way you would like and perform normal SQLite queries (I use Python's sqlite3 wrapper but you can use anything).
The csv and database files are for people who don't want to download each individual eml. You can open the csv in Excel or sthg. and sort data that way, if you'd like.
SQLite has a rudimentary re system, and I'm not an expert tbh, I learned SQLite to compile these wikileaks, but the official SQLite online syntax documentation is extremely helpful.
If you use a script to handle the SQLite connection (as opposed to a SQL client) then the sky is the limit. Pic related is me looking for all emails sent to "[email protected]/* */" using Python to execute SQLite commands.
