In what way would it be illegal? Last time I checked it was only illegal to leak classified information. Once it is in the wild there is no embargo on the exchange of information. The only piece of information I can think of which may be illegal to know is the exact process to make nukes which I recall an American who figured it out independently was charged with but the case was thrown out since he refused to get a security clearance to be able to stand as a defendant in his own trial.
