In all honesty watching lain was just a a bore. Please do share it's o so great philosophical message cause the whole time watching it I was just thinking wtf am I watching. And then it just ended with her as a ghost or some shit and I could think was that was the most boring weirdest creepy shit I ever did watch. Holo on the other hand was really good and had me interested all the way until the end and I learned a few things too.

Yeah, I felt similarly board trying to watch Ghost in the Shell: SAC. Couldn't even make it through more than a few episdoes. Lain is basically 2deep4u existentialist pill. Easiest parallel would be Evangelion imo but minus zero-suit hebe cuties and giant robot battles to hold your attention. The two main things I took away from it was the dehumanization that occurs upon the emergence of high technology. The "wired" could also be seen as representing the Jungian collective unconscious, the interconnectedness of humanity through a great unseen network of many minds. The internet is essentially a "physical" manifestation of this idea, a causal condensation of an acausal form. The third thing, and this might be a stretch; is a Neitzschean will-to-power. Lain does not become a "ghost" she becomes a "God"- a hybrid human/technological life form that transcends the physical and spiritual realms.
That being said, if you found it creepy and boring it's probably just not for you. Spice and Wolf was a quite good fantasy anime, very unique and well done at any rate. Holo essentially represents the spurned pagan folk gods of yore after the advent of Christianity… but that one is pretty straight forward.
