What is your opinion on the Black Panther Party?
Imo they were a hugely respectable and revolutionary movement against the injustices of capitalism. Blacks should be proud of their history with the far left in America instead of being ignorant about their own history. If not for Reagan and his neoliberal muck, blacks would be in a much better place.
BLM is a terrible ideological successor. Niggers need to embrace the far left once again

Did blacks really have a choice? They were fiercely oppressed by the state, they needed to rise up and saw that leftism was the way. There were white allies of the Black Panthers

Fred Hampton was based. The Black Panthers in general were more focused on revolutionary socialism than pure idpol, black folks at the time and in that area just happened to be a proletarian demographic that was nearly ready for revolution.

I really strongly sympathize with them and understand why they did it, but their nationalist focus and separatist tactics made them doomed to fail. It's pretty tragic how fragmented the white left was at the time too. If the SDS radicals and the Panthers united under one organization that would have been bretty based.

I think these were a minimal aspect - the COINTELPRO tactics used against the Panthers, and Newton specifically, were seriously effective, even when BPP had considerable widespread support and even their decentralized factions were well organized.
Did you see BLM released their statement of demands today? I was actually kind of amused - all reformist, liberal alterations to the police order like "make them wear body cams", and "develop an internal database of police homicides". There's nothing about actually getting rid of the police and the capitalist order they protect, just minimal internal updates. It's uncanny and couldn't bear less of a resemblance to the BPP.
BPP did some good things and some bad things.

Except de jure racism actually did exist in their time. Even in the eighties the black community was the target of the CIA crack thing.
Not sure I agree they were separatist. The BPP was black members only but they were more antiracist than the Pan-African groups.
The fact they could recruit white support gave them a lot of momentum.
