Cartoons have plenty of diferences, first of all characters are designed like logos rather than approach realistic anatomy, plot is not serialized, there can be continuity, but is not serialized, most anime (13 ep) are more like segmented movies.

Alos cartoon characters are not meant to be atractive the same way Japanese ones are, Japanese ones appeal to Human ideals, this is why they are so sexualized, Cartoon characters are meant to be distinctive and catch your attention, but not to arouse you or evoque human perfection ideals.

The Adventure time one is still going but it takes a year to make an episode. Not too sure about the gumball one.

While it's true that different cultures give rise to unique characteristics in their art (that the individual artists may choose to play straight or subvert), to categorize all animation from a region under a specific "style" is a gross simplification that just complicates things when styles mix and match.
And it's definition is so broad that it may as well include all forms of animation, anime included.

If any thing, the biggest distinction between the animation between the regions like the East and West is their subject matter, rather than the art style or animation techniques.

I personally say western animation has better techniques and overall methods of animating.
But the East just has a better work ethic along with a drive to be more experimental. Its really a culture thing, Disney both single handedly saved and doomed the west while the East was been stagnating with changing demographics while still having a general sense of identity.

It's a huge but almost universally made error to think anime is just "style" and there's nothing more to it than what the characters look like. The animation techniques of anime for example are distinct enough that they are recognizable even when using American designs. And there's still much more to anime than just the character design and animation.

Unfortunately, ultimately, the matter doesn't have anything to do with style of animation anymore, nor even the subject matter.
It's all about people being xenophobic/"patriotic" and trying to generalize "their" inferior cartoons vs "our" superior cartoons. Whether we're talking about Holla Forums mocking anime, or weebs (the trannies of cartoon watching) mocking western stuff, it's always the same mentality. They don't hate the other style because it's uglier, or because it has a different message. They hate it because it's alien, using any justification at hand.

It was designed primarily for motion while the east design's theres to be cinematic mainly for cost cutting measures. Hell for the garbage the west puts out, its a mandatory 24 frames per second for each cartoon, while it varies in the east mainly saving it for the action scenes.

Though things haven cheapened and both are guilty of just using stilled images most of the time.

Framerate is not animation quality or a matter of skill, and consistent and full 12-24 FPS animation is a thing of the past in America.

If anime kept everything the same but dropped the visual quality down to the level of Adventure Time or Steven Universe, the animation would be very smooth. But who would want to do that?

The production quality of TV anime is much higher now than in the past.

I meant exactly what I said. Framerate is not animation quality. A stick figure walk cycle at 24 FPS is not high quality because it's running at 24 FPS, and will not double in quality if you double the framerate.

People also often don't realize what the framerate of an animation really is. Everyone thinks Akira is 24 FPS, but it's only 12 FPS (most of the time).

Is it REALLY necessary for me to point out the very obvious fact that drawing animation frames requires skill? Also much of if not most in-betweening is done in Japan.

Besides the fact in some area's there's obvious decrease in frames like in the baton throwing scene. It looks pretty but its no powerpoint. The larger range of frames allows for a greater range of detail to be had, yeah get two walk cycles of stick figures and most people won't notice, but if you want the stick figure to move around more wiggling and such, the 24fps one will looks cleaner on the eye especially when transitioning to more elaborate poses.

Kemono Friends is an anomaly and everyone including the creators were surprised by its popularity. It doesn't mean the industry is going to move to 3D animation, which has already been around for a long time. 3D animation in a support role has also been around for ages. The industry is completely built around 2D animation. Many shows don't use 3D animation at all, or it's really minor.
