That's ~0.5% of the people protesting, where I'm from, a 100+ thousand people protest is considered huge in a 6m people city (by police, media and the organizers). That's 1.67% of the population.
I don't know about what you guys consider a huge social movement in the streets, but for me that's quite average-to-low (depending on the culture of the country of course). I'm pretty sure your average LGTB or eco-friendly protest can easily bring 0.5% to 1% in most cities of the globe.
I just want to put it into perspective and to know why would you think of it as huge? Because yes, it has implications about how some Bulgarians are pissed about immigrants, but you can even make a similar protest in a working-class city of other western European countries ( and they could pull about the same percentage of people.
