What really happened here? I've heard stories about it saying it was a CIA mind control camp, etc, thing like that, but what's the Holla Forums consensus?
While we're at it, we might as well deal with Waco, Ruby Ridge, Oklahoma, and the Unabomber as well. I'm a Brit so I don't have much knowledge of these things, I want to know the real story though.
That rule is dumb. Can you post anything that isn't election related right now?
Cameron Adams
Posting questions is fucking stupid. That's not how to get a thread/discussion going.

What is that ?
And unabomber was right about everything. I'm sad for him.

Jonestown. I read the Unabomber's manifesto, he was right.
Elaborate.
I read the wikipedia article, would you like that? Because that's literally all I have. Why do you think I'm here?
Jonathan Stewart
It has been awhile since I watched a decent documentary on it, which is about the extent of my personal research, but what stuck out to me was Jim Jones and his church before they ever established Jonestown.
In archival footage of their church services, you could tell they were really pusing the post-racial utopian message. The services where literally a hybrid of what a white church service and black church service would be.
Brayden Brooks
you didn't even post enough context for us to know what you're talking about just a fucking picture.
Juan Garcia
They did seem oddly (((progressive))) to me when I read about them in wiki, what with all the socialism nonsense, but I have trouble believing the official story that Jones went crazy and ordered everyone to commit to suicide. And then everyone did it, which is very troubling.
It's the Jonestown massacre.
Michael Morales
what happened there?

This isn't related to Holla Forums
There are a number of documentaries about this event, watch one.

I don't really know much about this event tbh OP.
I don't really think there was anything sinister going on other than what is actually reported.
Perhaps somebody will pop by with a contrary opinion.
By that logic any time that somebody asks about the Holocaust we should just say "There are a number of documentaries about this even, watch one."
Spastic.
Austin White
that's what happened. Other than that I fully endorse it. People gassing themselves is convenient.
Tyler Hughes
A socialist cult leader ordered his followers to commit 'revolutionary suicide' and all 900-odd of them did.
Holla Forums is not restricted to the election. If you want me to watch a doc, then drop a few names. Which ones are redpilled, which are kosher? Fucking contribute rather than sage.
It's just odd tbh. I don't believe people can be persuaded to commit suicide like that without some serious stuff going on behind the scenes.
Parker Sullivan
Make a better thread nex time, faggot. Actual thread, not just "what do you think of x, POL?".

Well, his armed guards shot people who tried to flee.

They trusted him, believed him. He was respected and admired. He went out to their families and showed compassion to them.
They were surrounded by people who likewise thought highly of him. He spoke about "absolute truths", "God", the "Nature of Man" deep philosophical things the average lemming never truly questions. He seemed to them very wise.
Put all that together and he has massive "trust capital" which he spent all at once.
Alexander Wilson
It was almost certainly a CIA mind control beta test. Worryingly social justice was its main tenet - although their management was "racist" in practice. Jones was a cocaine addict and CIA asset.

Fine. But you can make this a good thread by contributing info rather than just saging.
Would they have been able to stop 900 people?
But to commit suicide because someone tells you to is asking a lot. And this applies for 900 people. No man is that charismatic.
I've heard of MKULTRA, apparently the Unabomber was involved in this as well, and McVeigh. Anyone good info on this?
Connor Gray
You believe Jonestown is as historically or politically relevant as "the holocaust"?
Why do you assume this dichotomy exists? Just search for one. There isn't any hidden meaning or conspiracy surrounding this event. A charismatic white pastor convinced his congregation, mostly non-white, to travel with him to South America so they could all live as pre-industral peasants on a collective farm. Jim Jones behaved like most cult leaders in that he took advantage of his followers; allegedly having sexual relations with some of the women, even the married ones, and some of the children.
A congressman travelled to the settlement to investigate claims of abuse, Jones got nervous and ordered his henchmen to kill him. Jones then proceeded to order all of his followers to drink poisoned kool aid as he knew the killing of a congressman would mean the end of the settlement.
sage.

They didn't know the kool aid was poisoned. By the time people were dropping dead most have already drank it. Others were forced to do so by men with guns.
Jack Torres
They were in the middle of the Guyanan jungle. I'm not saying that many of them weren't legit completely indoctrinated into the cult, just emphasizing that there wasn't much hope for escape. That in itself reinforces the indoctrination for many people as well.

It is alleged that many if not all of the suicides in Jonestown were actually similar to Clinton "suicides". You, know, people committing suicide by shooting themselves 15 times in the back with an assult rifle. All we do know is that the whole investigation was a clusterfuck, with the Guyanese authorities on the scene claiming the victims were murdred, while the Americans who turned up later announcing that everyone there had committed suicide, despite carrying out only seven autopsies.
Cyril Wecht, a modern Forensic Pathologist argues that due to the nature of the victims, that they did not receive adequate attention via the federal authorities in the U.S. She states that “these deaths failed to arouse the sensitive interests and pragmatic concerns of the people in charge because the victims were perceived as ‘cultists’… I am confident this terribly botched-up aftermath of the Jonestown disaster would not have played out the way it did if these deaths had occurred anywhere in the U.S.” (Wecht, 1998). She also believes that not enough autopsies were performed (7 out of 913) and that the ones that were conducted were not done in a timely fashion:
I'm not that familiar with MKULTRA but keep in mind that just because the CIA was involved in a topic of research does not meant that research has any legitimacy. The CIA was involved in researching "remote viewing" as well, which is absolute nonsense.
