Either way, I don't give it long. Season 5 is already confirmed, I believe, so the show's got at least a year or two more, considering the scheduling. The show will probably not make it to season 7.
However, considering that the people making it are pretty close to the fandom, I expect that if the show is dropped before the plot is resolved, it will likely end up having some sort of webcomic followup, or something.

Sure, if you look at it like that, almost all of BTAS could be condensed into 2 or 3 episodes if you just cut out the action scenes and non-essential dialogue.

I don't know what to tell you, I can't believe you watch SU and don't see how padded to hell it is and how much time they spend doing essentially nothing. The distractions aren't even interesting and sometimes even aggravating like steven crying his eyes out over not being able to reach the controls or their little side-trip to korea (which seems like a "oh my god we didn't fill the time-slot come up with something else" moment).

I was thinking earlier how much would be lost if this stevenbomb was just a cold open with them already on the station with only heavily pared back flashbacks and I couldn't see what'd be lost (as long as you included blues little speech). I don't think user was trying to say that we should can SU into a couple episodes. He certainly said it was possible just because of how much filler there is, but not that that's what absolutely should be done.

Also, DBZ is a fucking horrible example. DBZ's anime is so long because it had filler because it couldn't get ahead of the manga. The manga is much better and runs at a much faster pace because it wasn't forced to add in a shitton of crappy filler.

Indeed, DBZ is a terrible example. Almost all the filler in the cartoon was actually specifically written by the adaptation team, because they did not have source material yet. Frankly, it's on par with fanfiction.
And, in a surprising twist, SU technically uses the filler a bit better, since most of the time, there are those tiny bits of foreshadowing or character continuity forced into the filler episodes. In DBZ, losing an entire episode changes absolutely nothing to the grand scheme of things.

SU is barely even better. You can definitely take out quite a number of episodes and it won't change anything. Like that episode where he hangs out with Onion and Onion's friends. Or the Mr. Smiley episode.

The re-mastered fancuts of the original trilogy are pretty great user (he mixed the blu-rays with the laser disc set trying to recreate the original theater experience). Give fancuts a chance, some of them are quite good or just interesting, I liked the cut of the truman show with all the outside world moments cut out it isn't better than the original movie but it's an interesting alternative take.

The episode kind of makes a deal out of how the Gems are being even bigger jerks than they normally are to humans (remember that even Garnet doesn't give a shit about property damage) and indulging their wonky perception of human society without even, say, asking Steven or Greg how it actually works, and how they literally alienate Carl over it. And Carl is shown with legitimate depth in that being freaked out by the Gems is mostly a side show to how his family has drifted apart and he doesn't even recognise what he left behind. The episode pretty much goes to lengths to show that he has legitimate grievances, and nobody but Steven really makes an effort to help him understand what the hell has been going on.

Should be noted that Greg saw the barn as just being full of scrap and spare parts that he doesn't have any use for, Andy (I finally remembered his name) comes off kinda like a hoarder coming home to find they've cleaned out and recycled his familiar junk. (and Greg does theorise that hoarding is an issue that runs in the family, which I'm pretty sure happens in real life)

This would actually be an interesting plot point, and could make a for an interesting episode/moment where Steven or some other human calls the gems out on their bullshit, but I don't think the writers of Steven Universe intended for the Gems to seem as apathetic towards humans as they are.

It's not really clear, since everything about it is vague, but the general air is that Rose did SOME bad things during the war, and Steven have already realized tat even though he doesn't know what it was, exactly. If something, he is trying to fix what his mother have done, in fact, in that episode with the weird song and the buttlerflies as traumatic experiences, you can imply that Steven's worst nightmare is becoming like his mother.
I think the only gem that actually cared about humans was Rose, and as I said only as mascots, which could mean 2 things, most of the gems who fought the war did it for their own independence rather than for earth, and that, since Rose consider humans pets and their race is marginally more advanced than humans, she is a zoophile. It does have an extremely slow-paced plot, and it's hard to see that as anything but intentional with how consistent it is. The slice of life stuff needs to be better, and I would definitely prefer if it had a faster pace, but I still like it.

Have her get perma-corrupted with Diamond powers.
It'd be like her getting trapped again, in her own mind, only there's nowhere to escape to.
Then, have Jasper get uncorrupted, only to find the only person who ever fused with her, who was ever truly close to her has been corrupted, trapped in the same hell she had been in. She might even assume it's her fault (despite being corrupted for an entirely different reason much later on).
Finding out that the Diamonds corrupted Lapis might give Jasper a somewhat believeable cause to join the Crystal Gems.
Then, for a little tearjerker at the end of the series, we could have Lapis get better right at the end, maybe even have one of the Diamonds uncorrupt her as a sort of goodbye/apology sort of thing. 'couse she'd have to have at least a few episodes where she's actually a likeable character and genuinely bonds with Steven.
