How different is the pad from using pencil and paper? I've only used a tablet once and that was for a very basic drawing. Is it more difficult?

Its had more than one artist. The comic itself is pretty much the same. The current story is about the military generals not liking metahumans and the heroes give testimony to why heroes are needed. Then Dr Universe shows up with the fat chick to protest. Honestly, the only character I liked was the tiger hero. The bits I see of his background seem interesting that and he comes off like a traditional hero trying to do the right thing.

I use krita too, specifically the Pencil_tilt one to get that effect.

I'll try that out.

I heard about, hows it with animating?

It's rudimentary but great. It adds a time line with basic but essential features like onion skin, playback speed, and whatnot. You get to keep all the previous features of krita like the brushes or layers. No tweening nor AS scripting like in Flash unfortunately.
It also has a good export engine relying on ffmpeg that apparently optimizes gif size. I believe they've added sound support recently but I haven't tried that yet.
