GitHub wants to help more people become open source contributors with a new initiative called Open Source Friday. As the name implies, the program encourages companies to set aside time at the end of the week for their employees to work on open source projects.
Nice, surely this will attract more users towards the bright side of the Hack, just like these Code for Women events from Google did attract more females to computing! Props to GitHub and thanks for sharing on /r/tech, good sir!

I guess so, pretty funny seeing people getting assblasted about such a small thing.

If this had a political movement behind it (IE, a union of hackers), it could become a very cool thing. Go on strike every Friday to code GPLed projects.

Why not... Free Software Friday!
No day begins with "o". I wonder what demographic gains an advantage from proliferation of the term "open source"?...

How is this supposed to work? Does the employer pick the project? Or do I get to pick myself what I work on? Probably the former.
Logan Lewis
It's not like normalfags think open source means you can have a look at the source but not distribute. e.g. Windows, MS-DOS.

They noticed the decline of people joining Github after all the pozz they let in and now they are trying to attract the public back. They are probably realizing now that all the mentally ill people they campaigned for sure do looks good on the SanFran media but unfortunately they don't contribute shit besides drama, analyzing other's code looking for problematic words like "retard" and "slave" and making new CoC's (or subverting the popular ones)

Does this mean that they're finally going to release their server code as FOSS, or are they still a bunch of hypocrite retards?
Austin Perry
Doesn't everyone and their mother already have a GitHub account? Of course the number of people will eventually settle down.
