Estate Taxes used to climb way higher in the past that 65%, back when income taxes were 90% for the ultra-wealthy as well. A long time ago.

Property Tax is generally replaced with Sales Tax on the State level. Sales Tax disproportionately affects the lower classes since everyone buys the same amount of food basically but $1 to the rich is worth less than $1 to the poor. Property disproportionately hits the middle class since they buy houses.

I think Property Tax is permissible, but not in its current state. Normally it taxes based on how nice your house is - if the property value goes up by you planting a garden, you have to pay more in tax. Disincentives to making your place better. Should be based purely on square-footage taken up.
