Here's a scheme that would probably end up pissing a kike off somewhere:

A front end website and addon that loads scrambled/encrypted video, and has the key to de-scramble it. The website would have a primary video source that it displays, and a backup source, both on youtube. If the original primary video is taken down, then the website uploads a new scrambled video based on the backup video (possibly with a different scrambling key, but this would require processing power rather than just bandwidth).

Now, youtube would probably ban a normal site's IP from viewing or uploading anything fairly quickly, but if a distributed approach was taken this could be interesting.

Really, though, Youtube is a monopoly, and should behave accordingly. Running a video website is incredibly demanding, which explains why youtube has no real competitor - but google can provide that sort of hosting pretty much for free.

The only solution that I can see is having a centralized server for stats and comments and distributed video hosting, where you can run your own ads if you want and thus get full revenue from your content. There could be networks that would actually host your videos for you, but run their own ads to be able to host the content. Of course, it would be rather problematic to be able to upload videos for people who don't really know much about tech, but I believe it could be used as a soft quality control, so you wouldn't get garbage content.
