Sure, it's not as good as any of the prequels, but it's the most kino movie of the original trilogy.
The Ewoks are important because their unlikely victory over the stromtroopers on Endor is meant to parallel the rebel's unlikely victory over the Empire. If they were replaced with an army that was on equal footing with the stormtroopers, it would have meant nothing.
Those are essential parts of the film. Tatooine(representing the past) and the Death Star(representing the obstacles we face in life) were both things that, by the end of A New Hope, the protagonists thought they would never see again. They thought they could just run away, or that they only had to overcome the obstacle once and then it would go away, but life doesn't work like that. Empire Strikes Back is about them learning that the hard way, and Return of the Jedi is about them coming to terms with both of those things and facing them head on, because the characters have finally matured.
Stale meme. Han Solo was necessary for the story. The only reason Harrison Ford kept saying he wanted the character killed off is because he was tired of playing the same role over and over again. Don't take anything Ford says seriously, he is a Jew after all.
I get that the movie isn't realistic, but Star Wars isn't meant to be realistic. That's like complaining about the Odyssey not being realistic.

Some of the edits are good. The movie that Lynch shot is by no means unsalvageable.

If Lynch directed ROTJ he would have to have big creative control over it in order for the film not turning into a complete clusterfuck. Lucas wanted a director for hire whom he could micro manage not someone bringing his own vision. He was even dissatisfied with Kershner, who was a pretty conventional director. And Lynch didn't feel it was the right movie for him either. I remember him saying in one interview that after they invited him to lucasfilm, and showed him all the ewok concept art he got a terrible headache, and just wanted to get out of there.
