Mecha anime separated into two genres, real robot and super robot. Real robot rely on more hard science (or pseudo science) and more grounded in the story telling. Super robot tend to be over the top and the have more fantastic characters.

On topic though, it's a solid show. Just finished watching it last night, and despite some slow parts, I'm glad the show didn't go the Thundercats reboot route and completely fall apart on itself after episode 1. They spend a lot of time helping one race, I'm hoping season 2 has them exploring a lot more planets and picking up the pace a lot. Zarkon and Haggar are both nicely menacing. Judging from the season 2 trailer I think I'll still be pretty pleased by the show in the future.

We don't NEED any of the shit that comes out every week. We have a legacy of amazing work to pour through, discuss and share with eachother.

Sometimes I find it easier to just pretend that JLA/Avengers was the end of cap comics. Like, if all the books had just stopped right there, I'd be satisfied. No Civil Wars or Identity Crisis and other events that spawned from either. No more reboots, retcons or pointless deaths that happened after. Just one last adventure, with heroes being heroes, and parting as friends.

I think everyone gets a bit happier with comics when they decide on their "cut off point". Otherwise the story never ends, and is never really satisfying.

It's a fools delusion but it saves you some heartache I guess. Really it's best to just read from indie companies that end their stories eventually instead of going on forever.

I don't think any episode ever had a "girls can do things too" moral. Nobody ever said "But Allura/Pidge, you're a GURL, you can't go do X!" Pidge gets to do anything the paladins do, and anytime Allura is denied permission to do something, it's because it's due to her being the only one who can use the wormhole thing in the castle, not because of her gender.

For once, I'd really like a show that tells the cast to trash the "Don't let your anger rule you" and "Treat people with tolerance" concepts.

With the former, every successful person I've ever heard speak has pretty much said they got where they are because they were angry. But, they didn't wallow in that anger like majority of people do. Instead, they used that anger to fuel their passion to become successful and free.

As for the latter, there is a difference between being accepting and being tolerant. Being accepting is where you not only accept, but approve of the person's actions and beliefs. Being tolerant, however, is where you accept their actions and beliefs, but you don't approve of it.

Allura's racism and her learning to overcome it was one of the best things about this season, especially when she found out that Haggar was Altean.

I liked it too. You could tell they had a tight budget since some of the earlier episodes are just stiff and awkward. It wasn't until episode five that the animation started to vastly improve. The final eps clearly the best. The CGI in those eps is really, really impressive, and it didn't throw me out of immersion like it usual does. I think my favorite animated scene is when Keith and Allura are ejected out into empty space, Keith flies over to her, and we get his first person view. Very nice.

Is anyone else annoyed that hunk has changed from a pretty brilliant engineer who would work together with pidge to solve problems in the first season to a bumbling idiot obsessed with food this season. Alright, finally finished season 2. 1 was better but this one had some nice animation and battles as well as a few enjoyable comedic moments. I really like the end battle. Especially with the intense anime sort of final attack moments. I really really really hope they don't fuck it up with political SJW bullshit down the road because this is legitimately a very very enjoyable show. Especially with the era of shit we've suffered through for years now.

I feel like Dreamworks really doesn't want anything too crazy in their shows. Like how they removed anything remotely edgy in trollhunters.

There was the immortal hunter from the latter half that was extremely edgy.

The prologue to the book is literally describing how delicious human meat is and then a flashback to when the main character's dad was a kid and dozens of kids went mysteriously missing because the Trolls were kidnapping and eating them.

We'll have to see how the discovery that Haggar is Altean affects her in the next season. I wouldn't be surprised if her magic is what has kept Zarkon alive for thousands of years. Meaning the killing of her people, enslaving multiple alien races, destroying countless planets, and all the other stuff that Allura was mad at the Galra for doing was only possible with the help of an Altean, possibly multiple Alteans if the druids are the same race (we never see any of the Galra soldiers or commanders use magic, just Haggar and her minions who are completely obscured by their clothes.)

I haven't watched all the other Dreamworks stuff on netflix, but I never noticed anything too SJW-ish in them. The only thing that comes to mind is Tip (from the Home cartoon) having interracial grandparents, but that kind of thing isn't that uncommon, especially since they seem to be from the Caribbean. I never saw any trannies or gays or anything like that.

Being Allura is suffering. If they were all Altean then that means she assisted in killing basically the last remaining bits of her race. That's pretty fucking dark. Speaking of which. How come the Paladins don't seem to have any qualms about killing? It never really seems to be an issue for them to blow up entire battle cruisers killing who knows how many Galra.

As far as Shiro, he's been tortured by the enemy, so that gives him a pass for dishing out "sweet, sweet revenge". Though, that does make me wonder if they'll address Pidge being a bit too emotional about losing her brother. I don't plan on seeing Season 2 anytime soon, but they addressed it briefly in Season 1 and that's the last you ever hear of it.
