Hey lads I've been noticing that my browsers on all of my computers have been hogging way more ram than is reasonable. I've also noticed that I can have 4 windows open with 30 tabs each and it doesnt increase ram usage to explain it. And then, like just right now for instance, I left my browser open over night with 4 tabs and when I just got on my computer noticed it was running real slow so I checked processes.
Is there any way I can trace what the fuck it was doing?
Carson Bell
Rewrite your browser in rust.
Nathaniel Parker
LOL it's open source bro! Stop complaining, you can just fix it yourself if you don't like it!
Owen Sanchez
I have the exact same problem with Firefox ESR and uBlock+NoScript Maybe a conflict between this two ?
Jayden Brooks
it will be easy to debug just copypasta your about:memory here
Ryan Campbell
it was installing the latest nsa security software.
Bentley Sullivan
Kill yourself, OP.
Michael Morris
Try wireshark for an hour on an idle browser. Once you see how much Firefox phones home and leaks metadata on what you're doing you'll wish you'd switched to Chromium years ago.
Brandon Ross
Why would chrome lite be better?

If all modern browsers were fast as lightning but also demanded 3GB of RAM I'd be happy. It just isn't the case, they hog memory like a person of color hogs welfare. t. dif 8ch tech poster

theres a difference between ff hogging ram and it using up 2.5-2.9 gigs of ram.
I left my browser open again last night which every diagnostic I could think of running and I figured the problem out. Im not sure which of these is causing the problem but FF w/ublock & no script AND steam running at the same time are the problem. Not sure exactly what was happening but FF would be running at ~120mb-200mb and every other process running would be low with total usage at between 5-700mb. Then out of no where steam starts running additional processes. Im not home atm so I don't recall specifically which ones atm and then steam would start taking up 300-500mb and FF would jump to 2.5-2.9gb. AND 95% cpu usage.
It happened several times at night, for fairly long intervals of about 30min-45 min, stop for about the same time period and then start again, each time the duration of the on and off cycle varied a bit.
That amount of processing and memory usage.. Either some chink is using me to mine coins or.. Steam seeming to be the program that initiates the process.. GOD DAMN IT VALVE WHAT THE FUCK KIKERY ARE YOU UP TO?
Joshua Phillips
steam is insecure as fuck, wouldn't surprise me.
Jack Wright
I straight up block steamerrorreporter and the whole \Steam\bin\cef folder from running. The second one is Chrome embedded. No one needs that botnet.
Ryder Peterson
Mozilla, Google, Microsoft, and others behind the big browsers are corporations so their products are shit. It's that simple. They literally spend their entire budget thinking up new retarded bloat and PR shit to add to their software while not addressing long standing issues, like that it's impossible to block popups in Firefuks without installing some addons which are even more sketchy than the browser itself. You can even enable the secret dom.popup_allowed_events option in Firefuks. This will block lots of popups, but any triggered by the enter key still happen. Not only that, but now you can't select files to open (on an image hosting site for example), unless you tab to the browse button and hit the enter key. Fixing this doesn't even require adding any new features, it requires getting rid of the misfeature that is popups. The fact that they haven't fixed this over the period of over a decade proves how much of a joke they are. OP has all these faggot meme plugins installed and wonders why he gets shit performance. The browser already had shit perf to begin with, even on sites with no ads. When JS is enabled, Firefuks becomes unusable after opening like 3 tabs. Forget RAM usage. Hell, opening the "view source" window takes 10 seconds to open (maybe not anymore in the newest version of Firefux, but this was an issue for years straight).
Aiden Morgan
sorry you don't "enable" it, you set it to empty string
Lucas Rogers
Also this is no longer true, in the latest version of Firefucks, you now get popups regardless of what this hidden option is set to.a
Chase Lopez
Holy shit, why is memory management in browsers SO HARD for the average person to fucking understand? Is this concept so hard for retards to understand? Its not fucking like Firefox (or Chrome or any other browser) is going to use up that entire 2GBs on a system with only 2GBs of RAM. Fucking retards
Jose Richardson
Wew
Charles Gonzalez
So please then explain why i.e w3m and links uses so much less memory to view the SAME website.
Zachary Perry
Certainly not with the same presentation or support for various web features. How are you even able to breathe? I'm constantly amazed at the dumbfuck, drooling autists that parade the fact that they're mentally deficient on Holla Forums.
Thomas Rivera
don't suspend to ran
Nathaniel Bailey
*ram also you probably have 2gigs of browsing history and your address bar (that quick suggestion shit) is storing the entire years of browz history in your ram.
Parker White
just run top nigga

4 windows? theres your problem, windows. install gnu/linux and ubuntu/lxde dumbass.
Leo Watson
Hi Mike.
Cameron Stewart
This is not how a web browsing experience should be. I may as well be downloading each thread's json file and parsing it myself instead of running firefox.
William Turner
Stop using firefox and/or stop being poor and buy more RAM
Michael Sanchez
this.
literally who

thats it.

Vivaldi is a slow piece of shit that somehow manages to explode in CPU usage instead of memleaking.
t. uses Vivaldi because I gimped Opera with an over-restrictive uMatrix configuration, making it into an 8ch browser
Isaiah Wright
...
Evan Edwards
just fix your umatrix configuration? it's not that hard
Ian Ward
I think its a firefox thing.
Im using like 3gb at the moment. When it gets really bad and slows odn I close firefox and restore previous session.
Andrew Adams
Can't be bothered. Besides, I like to keep 8ch sandboxed away from shit that might force tracking cookies on me.
Vivaldi has source available, at least.
Luke Clark
No, its not. I never experienced this myself or have I seen it with other users. The only times I hear about it is in shill threads like these. (FIREFOX IS SHIT USE CHROME GOYIM) This user pointed out that he also has Steam installed and he thinks that could be the cause of the memory leak.

Have you tried running Vivaldi on something that isn't a toaster? I am looking at my CPU usage right now and Vivaldi is barely taking up 4%.

I'm just a LITERAL poorfag with 8GB of RAM and an AMD A8-6600K, Vivaldi is taking like 5% and I have several pages open, it only goes to shit if I open >>>/cow/

so Pale Moon just crashed again, for like the 15th time this week, and its starting to piss the fuck out of me. Holla Forums freezes palemoon too many times because they're running some shady as fuck scripts or something, i don't know.
i think i need a new browser, im on Windows 7, what browser can i use that: -isn't cucked in terms of privacy (no chrome or firefox) -lets me keep hundreds of picture tabs open for days on end -doesn't consume endless memory (firefox is a no go because of this) -can have add ons installed on it like uBlock origin -doesn't crash every fucking day
i dont know why, i always have tons of tabs open but Holla Forums?
really tired of having to refresh 5 windows with hundreds of porntabs each everytime.
Jack Brooks
Your doing it wrong along with op. My browser uses 500 or so megabytes of ram with 50+ tabs open. Lurk moar and find a better firefox or jewgle spyware like chrome. Also don't use no ce agency/windows and switch to linux mint or centos ffs. Anything without systemd and your golden.
Andrew Myers
I noticed that HTTPS Everywhere froze Holla Forums, but I think you'd notice that before you got 50 tabs open. But also years ago I used Firefox before switching to Chrome (and back and forth over several years) because in FF it would freeze up and crash because I would open a ton of image tabs. Then I stopped being a retarded kid and stopped doing that.
Connor Moore
i dont know why it crashes. i dont have any plugins other than uBlock it just crashes randomly, and at some points when i load Holla Forums threads or refresh them, palemoon freezes (without crashing)
