I've always used Windows as a desktop OS. Never seriously considered linux for desktop until weeks ago.
I'm currently using Windows 7 sp1. I had to google every update before deciding to install it to make sure it doesn't cause performance issue or spy me. This sucks. It's like walking on a minefield.
Windows 10 spies on you, the only way to make it not spy on you or spy less is to use the enterprise version, which is not available to regular users, it only has volume licensing with complex activation method.Microsoft has been attacked alot for the spying and it doesn't seem to be changing its mind. So maybe windows should only exist machines to run apps that can't be found in linux.

You can defer major upgrades with a setting. There is a third-party tool for all Windows versions since 2000 and up to 10 but I don't know if it's updated anymore.

Unity in general is too buggy. It looks good and stable but there's practically a mainstream line of stable shit of crap they think you will use unity for and then there's bug-ridden garbage once you use those other functions they barely pay attention to or test properly. I hate engines that become exercises in kludge-work because they advertise features and functions that they never bothered to get to work properly.

I manage multiple Windows 7 installations with automatic updates turned on, and GWX policy disabled. I haven't any sign of Windows 10 on them.
