Honestly you just have to think about how you can cut corners to make up for where tech currently lacks and where the cost is driven to its current prohibitively high levels. You have to think of how you can do better with what you have, rather than trying to stretch what you have to where it doesn't function as well. It's a lot like vidya that way.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Use artistic decisions to make up for what tech cannot practically do well yet. Uncanny valley is tough to overcome, realistic skin and eyes and movement are all hard to do. So make it look like a robot on purpose. There's a reason user above me posted My Life as a Teenage Robot. But perhaps the hair would be impractical. Apparently RealDoll hair is a pain to take care of, but making huge metal pigtails is probably dangerous, so short molded hair like on old CGI stuff can be a good stopgap. Maybe leave the other options there for those who want it, though, since I'm sure a lot would want the options despite being harder to deal with, and it wouldn't be more expensive for you.
Getting your robot to walk is apparently still an issue. Make it a cripple. I'll love my sick waifu regardless. We probably have good enough tech to have it move in bed, which is better than most real women do anyway.
In fact, she's already in a wheelchair, that can be a detachable battery pack. I know power is an issue, and this will help.
AI isn't quite there yet? Have the AI you do have acknowledge that. All the most endearing robots in fiction know they're robots but strive to be human. I'd fuck Data from Star Trek if he were a girl. You can use software updates to give the illusion of learning. I'm sure we also have at least a degree of actual learning from the user, too, which would be a very nice trait. People went nuts for Furbies 20 years ago just on the rumor that they did that, but now we really do have that tech.
There are tons more ideas on >>>/robowaifu/, those guys are the engineers, not me, but even my pleb self can come up with simple ideas to make these things not just more practical and much cheaper, but a hell of a lot more endearing than the uncanny slutbots the current industry is determined on making. We need waifubots, not slutbots.
Really, all the tech is there to make a very marketable product, but people just aren't using it correctly. If someone with the money and technical capabilities just made waifubots instead of slutbots, tons of people would buy it, and thus fund further tech, which would lead to more people buying, funding further tech. All we need to do is make people aware of just how possible waifubots are, even with current technology, so that they actually demand them until someone with the money to make them actually does it. This is something that could very much be memed into existence, but if you have the money already and are technologically inclined, you could be sitting on a goldmine. You could be the one to make them and become a billionaire, ruling the waifubot revolution.
