The first half was good, it helps going into it blind I guess. I didn't really care for the supernatural angle, the first half sets up something that could have been played straight. The type of movie that could win an Oscar with that acting talent.
The only thing that really bugged me was the toe twitch at the end with the bell sound, cheesy Blumhouse type nonsense. I didn't care for the merkin either, movies can show a graphic autopsy scene but can't show vagina.
I totally know where you are coming from, but I liked it, because it resolved all tension. Before that I was thinking about whether the Witch was evil or what she might be thinking and that showed me that she even has a sense of humor.
Oh and I didn't get any nightmares from seeing the film either.
