For small scripts and personal stuff it doesn't matter and I will learn it in my spare time just so I'm aware of how it works and can read code for certain software I may use in the future. My issue with it is mainly that I do not want to build a major or public project in it. If I undertake such a task I will have to interact with that community. The Rust community has shown time and again that it wants be "all inclusive". The problem is instead of telling you not to be a dick and turning it loose on the masses they have to implement a Code of Conduct. The CoC is similar to something you'd hear from HR at a large corporation. The type of places that set quotas on what types of people they need to hire. Instead of taking and accepting the best man for the job they'll hire someone the right sex or color instead. These people are then cut a bunch of breaks because they don't want to let them go for fear of begin sexist/racist and the lawsuit that may or may not happen. So instead, they cut talent and when given the choice between one or the other it's always talent going out the door before lazy but the right type. Those lazy people put more work on the talent thus burning them out and causing them to carry an unfair burden. Worse yet the lazy/useless ones are usually the same people that bring the moral down simply by constantly bitching and snitching on people for small infractions.

I refuse to work with these people and I do anything that may make them look good and get further head in life without putting in any actual work.
