Out of all the movies based on video games, this one both pisses me off and confuses me the most.

This movie should have been easy to make. The original game's plot was dead simple. Two martial arts masters who are brothers have to rescue their lady friend from a gang of thugs. How could anyone fuck up something so simple as that!?

I am amazed and confused there has never been a good video game movie.
Are they cursed?

...

...

Those were first movies and then made into games.

Op is talking about the reverse, video games that then are made into movies like Tomb Raider, Hitman, Street Fighter, and Mario Brothers.

the only tolerable videogame > movie adaptation I can think of right now is Doom

I like the Mortal Kombat movie. Like the game it was just a tournament, no random bullshit added.
The series was interesting too since in the end the bad guys won.

Was Advent Children worth a shit? Or the cgi Resident Evil movies?

Advent Children was balls and only interesting when it came out to see what it would look like to watch a FFVII fight in something other than terrible polygon hell.

Cid was pretty cool though.

it's shit

That Thing video game was shit though.

Advent Children was only good for direction and cgi because the story was shit because it didn't tell a complete story on its own.. You had to get the rest from some animated ova to even give a damn about Denzel because AC didn't tell you to care. It was more just a cameo movie for nostalgia than an actual movie.

The new final fantasy 3D movie Kingslaive is better than AC. Above average but likely the best in terms of animated video game movies. I think I'm the only one that really didn't mind Spirits Within. It not being remotely related to Final Fantasy and the dead eye animation didn't make me dislike it like a lot of people did at the time. Though I haven't seen it since it first came out so I'm not sure if it'll hold up on a second rewatch.

I think the first cgi resident evil was okay. Second one was a little better than the first. Haven't seen them since they first came out as well but they are definitely better than the live action resident evils.

Spirits Within is the superior Final Fantasy movie

The Mario Bros movie and the Mortal Kombat movies have a certain charm. As for things that are ACTUALLY good. I don't know. Maybe the Sonic OVA.

no, it's just hollywood jews and writers thinking they can do a better job taking someone else's work and adding whatever fanfic tier crap they come with

You don't have to front, that movie is true kino

Bad guys win constantly in MK
Also the movie was shit, changed too many things, including Raiden being a benevolent nordic guardian, instead of the deceptive jaded-as-fuck asian guardian

Most faithful videogame movie ever made.

No idea why anyone gave it shit.

The first two Resident Evil movies were alright.

The Silent Hill movies were excellent.

Straight lie or someone with dubious taste/knowledge

At the time it came out there wasn't much MK lore to change. I still wish we had got Mortal Kombat: The movie: The game like we did with StreetFighter.

I liked the first RE and SH movies, they weren't masterpieces but they we're an enjoyable watch.

Just realized that retardy
There was 2 games of lore, one with very defined rules on certain characters. It is true that there was very little, but they even screw that up immensely

Also Street Fighter movie was a jewish mishap, it was originally a G.I. Joe movie, so i can't hit on it too much because many had their script changed dramatically.
If anything praises for those who pulled a decent job (Studi, the Zangief guy) and Van Damme was never good in english language + emotion so can't bother

And come on, it brought us one of the greatest live-action villain interpretations of cartoon/vidya, if not the very best

People who greenlit, fund, and work on those have no clue or interest in property they are working with. They make unnecessary changes, disregard fans of the source material "because they will watch it either way" and slash budgets because genre film don't make money.

It used to be the same with most comic book films until Marvel got directly involved.

How faithful was the Dead or Alive movie to its vidya source material?

There are plenty of hot women in sexy outfits, and they fight each other eventually. So, I'd say very faithful. I don't remember if there is beach volleyball in the movie, though.

Well that half fulfills my question; What about the story and characters?
>inb4 giving a shit about fighting game's lore and story

...

Greatest movie with a strong connection to video games.

imagine how much better it would have been if fred savage was played instead by some tomboy punkish chick. imagine the two girls taking turns pounding the autist's cock so he could play at 100% ability

Was she trying to warn us about Pedowood? Could we have prevented the rise of Dan "The Horny Hebrew" Schneider and all his Israelite pedophile friends?

Imagine the girls with equine strapons, taking turns training him to be a gay escort with a big gaping faghole, so they can pimp him out to truckers to finance the trip. Also imagine a mad scientist injects them with a formula that causes the girls to sprout massive tits and asses on their tiny bodies.

...

this is some top tier kike posting

She was actually pointing at the films producer, John Greenshekels, who was standing just to the left of the camera.

...

I guess video game movies won't get any better until the game companies get more hands on with their properties.

I quite enjoyed J.C.V.D. and Legionnaire.

Yes, there is volleyball in it.

Thats what EA tried to do with the shitty Need for Speed and Assassins Creed movies, and neither were particularly successful.

The closest we've ever come to a proper Double Dragon movie is Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon.

It seems a lot of early video games borrowed a lot from movies at the time they were made. You could say Contra is basically a video game adaptation of both Predator and Aliens.

There have also been a lot of movies that have borrowed from games as well. You could say Van Helsing was basically Castlevania: The Movie.

Nah, Van Helsing was just a monster mash with all the classic universal monsters, which is what Castlevania basically is too.

Hence it's basically Castlevania: The Movie.

Also, this movie is basically Legend of Zelda: The Movie.

I don't think Double Dragon was directly inspired by the Last Dragon unless I'm missing something. Similar theme but there was lots of that headbands an chains kinda stuff in movies and TV back then. Could have been the Warriors too.

No. Castlevania is Universal Monsters: The Game

Legitimately good movie.
Watching it with Holla Forums was fun.

Also Miami Connection.

she doesn't even have any breasts

I liked the first Silent Hill movie, or at the least the first half before the budget ran out

no, that's literally what happened. they completely changed the ending due to budgetary reasons

Jimmy and Bimmy never had a kick ass band.

why does any of this matter op? everyone knows why Double Dragon is kino by now

She aged terribly
and she was such qtpie in Commando, too

House of the dead 2 was okay.
First one is cancer.

The answer is always those pesky Jews.

Those were mainly in french and rudimentary english
I enjoy Van Damme as the sportsman trying to fit in, but he's also very compelling in his native language.
Thing is the poor man thinks what to say in french, translates it in english in his mind AND then spits it out, making him very awkward to say in verbose scenes

He was horrendous as fuck in Street Fighter, at least the man banged Kylie so he can sleep well after doing it, unlike Raul Julia's sons, who have to think about their father working extra hard doing his role well due to their special request, while dying of cancer and probably shortening his lifetime by months

They should have.

...

Given how badly they fucked up something as straightforward as Max Payne I'd say yes.

...

Why couldn't they have gotten Michael Madson to play Max Payne? He had the look, the voice, and he was a well establish actor.

>He had the look, the voice, and he was a well establish actor.

Although in reality it probably was some retarded studio politics that led them to pick Wahlberg.

It's still mindboggling how they managed to fuck up a adaption of the videogame clostest in structure and feel to a action movie (as opposed to "cinematic" QTE cutscene shit) and manage to fuck up the ending for good measure.

...

Big Smoke pls

And there's no bullet time in it until the very end when Max shoots the main bad guy. The movie should have had bullet time scenes out the ass! It should have been as if the entire movie was shot in slow motion!

And what the fuck was up with those demon things!?

I watched the movie years ago exactly once, expecting a straight forward adaptation and to this day i have no idea what the fuck i ended up watching.

A shitty movie?

Basically? Miyamoto copied it blatantly.

I wish I could interview her now, and only ask questions about double dragon.

Yep the ol' xenomorph got a lot of mileage in those old games.

I don't care what any of you say, The Super Mario Bros Movie is great

Tron.

Best vidya movie

Don't forget how bloodless it was just to get a PG13 rating. It's one movie that I think would benefit from a new cut with blood added in, CG or otherwise.

Mario Bros movie licked nigger balls.

This meme needs to die.

This meme needs to die.

I disagree with you but for some reason almost every person I've met IRL who's seen this movie has liked it. Crazy shit.

If they had ran with the dark dystopian president bowser thing, it might have been decent in its own right, but they created this weird tonal mashup with the silly goombas and shit like that

Get the fuck out and take your faggotry with you.

...

Cradle of life a shit you niggerface

yeah, now that she's fifty, still 10/10 for most of Charmed's run

If anything MK: The Movie invented a bunch of lore that the games stuck with, or else at least incorporated stuff from the comic that hadn't been put in the games yet

Find one reference to winning 10 consecutive tournaments in the first three games, PROTIP: you can't

Forgot S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: The Motion Picture

I don't even watch japanimation cartoons but they clearly borrowed a lot from Vampire Hunter D too

I see no mention of the Postal-movie.

I'm disappointed. Uwe Boll's movies are pure kino.

nah, she stopped being cute when she stopped looking how she did in commando
the swarthy skin, the curly brown hair

Postal is one of those rare instances of a good video game based movie.

Movie was largely fucking trash, but it had its moments. Embed is a lot more relevant today than it was when the movie came out.

Cartoonish Supervillainy. Better than the Tekken movies.

And yes, there is beach volleyball.

The first two RE movjes were good popcorn flicks, while Silent Hill was a reasonably faithful adaptation that was done quite well.

They change some canon, but its otherwise pretty good. Both flicks. Silent Hill was better than RE movies.

To this day, I dont understand the hate MK Sequel got. Yes it was cheesy, had some ham…changed Raidens actor for reasons, but so? Still fun.

The Silent Hill movies were imho, good enough to stand on their own. The Resident Evil ones…shit the bed.

FUCKMADSON, his shit ass acting did Bloodrayne worse than fuckbowls directing.

Nah, it was legit shit.

And they ruined it all a decade later.

Postal and Rampage. Just holy shit.

Holy shit. The guy from Freddy Krueger.

HOLY SHIT BOTH POSTAL AND RAMPAGE HAD GUYS FROM FREDDY KRUEGER WTF.

The Resident Evil movies were better than most of the other shit that comes out in this genre. And I agree about Silent Hill.

I think it's near impossible and requires the planets to align: you gotta have a game fit for adaptation into a completely different medium, you gotta have writers and a director who understand the original game, you gotta have hollywood execs who'll shut up and listen to their directors and not try to market-friendly it to death, etc.

I think the closest we'll ever get it watching God of War cutscenes strung together with only minimal gameplay needed for story inbetween.

Sometimes I think games should just be games instead of movies, but then I see stuff like animated adaptations which are particular faithful to the source material and I think "Maybe they could pull this off".
