Powerful man abusing his power to trick, blackmail and coerce women into sex. Feminists are lumping in all kinds of very different situations. But, anyone who's had an asshole boss knows that asshole bosses suck. He wasn't just offering favors for sex, he was tricking women into coming to his suite and then getting them in situations where it was hard to say no. Some he actually raped, some "consented" under pressure and some walked out.
They aren't all saying they were raped. It can be any kind of sexual assault or sexual harassment. Which by Tumblr rules, means just about anything. I really dislike the implication that some homeless guy wolf-whistling you or a drunk guy hitting on you is comparable to what Weinstein's accused of. Though, I've seen some women giving more detail and it's not just Tumblr level "harassment".
Somewhere between a third and two-thirds of women have fantasised about rape at least once (this also means that between a third and two-thirds have not, and it's not necessarily the main fantasy of those who have).
Fantasies don’t necessarily reflect wishes. Among those in long-term relationships, one of the most common fantasies is sex with someone else, even when the daydreamer is happy in the relationship and has no real desire to jump into another bed. Plenty of men fantasise saving damsels in distress without the slightest real wish to face a raging fire on the 23rd floor.
Men use their brains to barter for status, it doesn't mean it's OK to cut a man's brain out his head or suck out his memories without his consent. Also #notallwomen
Yeah, that kind of false accusation/rewriting of stories needs to be discouraged. Still doesn't make actual rape OK.
IMO yes means yes, no means no, feminists need to stop trying to push this thing where yes kinda means no if they didn't mean it, but men need to stop trying to push this thing where no means blurred lines and keep pushing to turn it into a yes. Nobody has these problems telling a no from a yes in other spheres of life.
Third/fourth wave feminism is typically middle class and academic. First and second wave, not so much. All the stuff about centering women's voices and pushing etiquette norms actually serves the top 1% of women to rise further in the general population, at the expense of other women as well as men. But, issues like wife-beating, low pay and rape affect poor and working-class women disproportionately.
