That's not true.

The situation is this: they will have no problem putting a new name on the ballot, even a few days before the election. State governments bend over backwards for the major parties.

Where the problem arises is with early voting in October. If someone votes Hillary but Biden or Sanders is running, you can't just fold that vote over into the new Democratic candidate.

So, if Hillary were to drop out sometime in October, the next Democratic candidate would lose quite a few votes.

Pertinent reading on the topic. It says the party who loses a candidate is free to put up another one, but it's still very time sensitive. For instance, if ballots have already been printed up, the candidate won't appear on them but can still be added as a write-in.

And with the trouble some normies have handling a regular ballot, you just know write-ins are going to be a very special kind of hell for them.

Or in other words, if you pull their names off they won't die, but it would be very painful…

So if i'm reading this correctly, the electoral college can choose to interpret every vote for Hillary, or whoever else is on the ballot, as a vote for the democrat candidate and just apply their vote towards that person.
