I find the "not real satanists" spiel you hear so commonly from CoS members really hypocritical considering Lavey's views on The fracturing and dogmatic arguments present in other religions.
The whole point was to reject the idea of a centralized religion, yet the CoS has turned into a bunch of gatekeepers sitting around complaining how they are the only REAL satanists.

LaVeyan Satanists are just atheist kiddos with a bent for the edgy, and perhaps a slight touch more anti-christian than some other Atheists.

And LaVey was just a Jewish carnival huckster with a fetish for ritualistic sex acts; pretty degenerate tbh.

LaVey may not have lived a life you, or I really to be honest, would live ourselves, but I really like his observations and philosophy. He never really wanted to be an idol, rather he wanted everybody to become their own idol. He was actually quite humble for someone who founded the leading religion of self worship, he never really tried to beat around the fact that he was just some guy, just like he refused to beat around the fact that he seemed to be surrounded by people wrapped up in pretentiousness and self deceit. No Satanist believes him to be an object of worship, but rather a writer who like any can be both appreciated and criticized.

To put it in a way I'd say it if I wasn't LaVeyan: TST and JoS behave in ways and have beliefs that so strongly conflict with what LaVeyan Satanists believe, it's only natural for them to reject it and state that in their eyes it is not real Satanism. Most LaVeyans don't have a huge problem with any other "Satanists", as long as they're not demon-worshipping misguided teens and the like. To each their own, it's just somewhat frustrating when you have a religion dedicated to not shoving itself in peoples faces and on a set of beliefs, and groups with the same name shove it in the public eye with directly conflicting beliefs.

Laveyan satanism is literally just the philosophy of metaphysical hard libetarianism with a heavy emphasis on the agents autonomy in decision making an having an effect on universal events - rather than being a simple node in the deterministic causal web link of the universe

And nobody in the world of philosophy takes him seriously insofar as idealism and existential freedom go, as all he did was put an elementary spin on preexisting philosophies and dumbed them down to appeal to more people, and added a spiritual component to it

It's a bit more than literally just that, but that is a part of it. There's a lot of other ideas Satanists generally share outside of that.
And I never said he did anything more. I believe he was pretty straightforward in his lifetime about where he got his ideas from as well. He wanted to rustle some jimmies, the idea was basically "hmm wait a minute, I don't agree with either these hard christians or these new counter culture hippies, and a lot of people are in the same boat. I'll make a "religion", and since Satan stands for everything they both hate, I'll make it Satanism." On top of the "basic bitch" beliefs Satanists hold, he believed that man had a need for religion, and that if legitimately believing in an exteral god wasn't possible for an individual, creating one that focused on the self and added an "edgy" twist to keep it special would fill the place more properly. If you don't believe that man has a need for religion you probably would find his work to be basic and pointless. It's probably not a very specific or revolutionary philosophy because it was never meant to be. Satanism was meant more to be a "religion" where the members had a lot of freedom in each individual to hold very different beliefs. Satanism was never meant to break any ground, besides in establishing a religion that people without one could be a part of.

Except you missed the part where Might is Right was an entire book about brutal over the top Social Darwinism, racism, and claiming women are property of men, while the importance individual responsibility and strength was only a small part of Satanism, racism had no part in it, and the power and importance of women even got it's own entire book in Satanism.
